International supermodel, Naomi Campbell, addressed the matters of diversity at the One Young World open forum when she voiced that there is still an incredible need for the fashion industry to include women of colour in their campaigns and on their runways.

In this year alone, a number of organisations and individuals have taken the right steps towards making their brands, and ultimately our society, more inclusive of people of colour, queer people, and people with disabilities

Although 2018 turned out to be a year of diversity and changing the rules, the dream of having an undeniably inclusive society is a never-ending one; and when it comes to women and the spaces they occupy, you can never have too much diversity.

A quick round up of the feats in diversity that we've seen thus far:

1. Teen becomes first person with Down syndrome to win international beauty pageant

“There’s not just one look; I’m different and being different is wonderful.”

2. This underwear designer cast only transgender models at his NYFW show

"I wanted to create a space to celebrate trans bodies. This was an opportunity for their presence to be undeniable and reinforce that trans is beautiful." -Marco Morante.

3. The #FatAtFashionWeek hashtag made us feel like we're all invited to the party

Fashion is for everyone and all body shapes and sizes need to be normalised.

4. Models told by agents not to reveal they're gay/bi/trans? How this new modelling agency could change everything

Pride Month might be over but fighting for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, and intersex. (LGBTQI) visibility is a human rights priority.

5. Unedited fashion ad goes viral for showing swimwear model's stretchmarks - why did we ever see them as 'flaws'?
