The Elba's have officially entered the skincare market, launching their "genderless" skincare range, S'able, on 12 July 2022.

Idris and wife Sabrina first announced the launch of S'able earlier this year after doing some planning during lockdown.

Here's everything you need to know about the range:

Where it began

In an interview with Vogue, Sabrina revealed that the idea to start a skincare range began at a time when she and Idris felt "disconnected from our community".

The couple saw a gap in the market for a skincare range that represented people of colour.

"We realised quickly that there was no one doing it in the wellness space that looked like, spoke like or felt like us - there was no representation for people of colour who wanted to be into wellness and fit in," Sabrina explained.

About the name of the company, she said: "Sable is actually 'Elbas' backwards," adding: "Idris is sweet--he thinks of all these things."

Gender Neutral

In the Vogue interview, Sabrina also revealed why they decided on gender-neutral products.

"Everything was gender-focused [in the skincare industry]," she told the publication. "I'd have conversations with my husband on products he didn't think he could use [due to them being aimed at women], but could."

Again, the couple decided to fill the gap, creating products that were not aimed at a specific gender but open to all.

If you think you will have to fork out large sums of money to get your hands on S'able products, think again.

Describing the range, Sabrina said it would be "affordable but luxury, and address concerns, from hyperpigmentation to inflammation, that so many people face."

The products

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the debut assortment of S'able products includes a cleanser (around R500), toner (around R630) and moisturiser (around R950).

The publication also writes that the products are made with natural ingredients from East Africa, which includes Qasil harvested from the leaves of the Gob tree and baobab from the African baobab.
