What was a normal Thursday afternoon for the customers and staff members of Clicks at Vangate Mall in Cape Town, turned into a magical ending when two high school sweethearts sealed the deal.

A video of Stephen Classen proposing to Noleen Gysman has attracted over 150 000 views and hundreds of comments on social media.

With a bouquet of protea flowers in hand and a ring, Stephen went down on one knee in the busy store. Colleagues and customers cheer the couple on with staff members presenting the newly-engaged couple with wine glasses and confetti. Although the two lovebirds had only been dating since June, it is reported that the pair have a long history of knowing each other, as they dated 35 years ago.

Noleen, a store manager, has been working at Clicks for 30 years, while Stephen is an employee at Atlantis Foundries as a boilermaker.

The Citizen reports that Noleen and Stephen were high school sweethearts who were torn apart after dating for two years when he moved to Atlantis, Cape Town, with his family.

All thanks to a mutual friend, in February, the two were reunited and put in contact with each other, and started chatting away on WhatsApp.

Noleen told IOL; “We both got married and had children - I am not divorced and Stephen’s wife died five years ago. While under lockdown Level 2 in May, he pitched up at work with his granddaughter and the rest is history.”

Carlyn Matthews, a cashier at the store, shared the video of the romantic moment between the two sweethearts on her Facebook page with the caption, "Our manager's engagement... Team 164, Vangate Mall", and the post has since gone viral.

The couple is set to get married next year.

We guess it’s true what they say; ''What is meant to be, will always find its way."
