- Planning a wedding takes months and for some it takes years.
- Weddings require intense planning where details are double checked constantly to ensure that everything goes according to the bride's desires.
- What we’ve learned in recent years is that weddings get cancelled a lot and for different reasons. Here is a recap of weddings that were once cancelled for strange reasons.
A Reddit bride cancelled her wedding because of the best man’s height and a few features she was sure would ruin her wedding pictures. Taking to Facebook, this anonymous bride expressed her frustrations about the best man who has to walk her sister, the maid of honour, down the aisle.
"All of my bridesmaids are gorgeous and honestly I can't imagine having better looking friends. My issue is my fiancé's best man. He's only 5ft 3' (1,6m) tall so he will look ridiculous escorting my sister down the aisle. He is homely as well. A unibrow and crooked teeth. One of those really big smiles that shows his teeth and 10ft of gum too.”
The bride asked her husband-to-be if the best man could be at the end of the line of men in all pictures and during the ceremony so that he can be cropped out or avoided in photos. The groom refused as the best man had spent over $10 000 (R148 000) towards the wedding at that point.
The bride got upset and cancelled the wedding.
A Canadian bride-to-be, only known as Suzan, wanted a $CAD 60 000 (R660 000) wedding. She said her love story was like a fairytale and she wanted to show that on her big day, even though it meant attaching a price tag on the RSVPs to the wedding, reported the Daily Mail.
She asked for donations of $CAD 1 500 (about R16 000) from each of her guests, however her guests refused.
Upon receiving the unwanted feedback, the bride decided to cancel the wedding and cut her friends off by making an announcement in a Facebook post which she has now deleted.
“I specifically…asked for cash gifts. How could we have our wedding that we dreamed of without proper funding? We talked to a few people who even promised us more to make our dream come true. I am exhausted. I am bone tired. My heart is not the same. It’s stone cold. Fragmented. Empty,” Suzan said.
A Reddit bride took to Facebook to announce that her wedding which was scheduled for December is cancelled and thanked her friends and family for the donations that amounted to $30 000 (about R442 000) which were made to fund the wedding.
Instead of returning the money, she announced that she and her husband-to-be, only known as Edward, would be going on a honeymoon with the money - before they get married, reported by The Sun UK.
“Don’t worry, the money you’ve donated will not be spent in vain but rather used towards a honeymoon in the coming months. After we regain financial stability... we will announce a new wedding date and reopen our money fund for any further gifts,” she said.

The bride’s friends and family members were not having it after contributing a lot of money and requested refunds.
The bride’s uncle was among those who demanded their money back, saying, “You are not answering my calls or responding to my texts so I’m just going to tell you: You are to return my more than generous $12,000 (R177 601) donation.”
Reddit users were as disappointed about the bride as her family and friends were with one saying “I'm actually speechless. Spending 30k on a honeymoon for a wedding that got cancelled? Wooooow.” And another added “’After we regain financial stability’ .... how did 30k not do that and you can still afford a honeymoon? No one is coming to your wedding, honey.”
