No pad. No tampon. Just panties. Sounds risky, right?

I firmly joined the tampon camp when I was first given a choice between pads and tampons. So when I heard about Modibodi period panties my first thought was: “Nope. Not going to happen.”

That thought was followed by a million others and I pictured various scenarios that would horrifically demonstrate just how impossible it is to put all of your trust in a single pair of panties when it’s that time of the month. I mean, the last thing anyone wants is to have a leak, especially considering how taboo and shameful some people consider menstruation to be.

But I’m a firm believer in the principle that you shouldn’t have an opinion about something if you haven’t tried it yourself and I eventually decided to give the “period panties” a try.

Feel Good & Company stocks Modibodi period panties and at first glance they look comfortable and quite pretty. They come in different styles, ranging from classic bikini, boyleg, high waist bikini, full briefs and even thongs. What surprised me about the “Sassy Cheekini”, which is the style I tried, was that it was just so comfortable to wear. I didn’t feel like I had to pack my panties with pads or wear “granny panties” just to avoid a leak.

Ah, granny panties! Most of us have at least one pair we wear during menstruation, which gives us a sense of security that everything will be fine.

Well, with period panties, now you can confidently chuck those away. The fabric is breathable and super absorbent, so I never felt self-conscious about any potential odours or that blood would get caught in the panty lining. I mean, the panties absorb the same amount as two light absorbency tampons. I took a serious risk when testing them out – I was on day two of my period and wore a white dress!

Modibodi uses high-quality fabrics such as bamboo, merino perform wool and microfibre and incorporates the latest in fibre technologies. It has a breathable, super slim, moisture wicking, absorbent, antimicrobial, stain resistant, leakproof lining and Modifier Air Technology.

Yes, that’s a lot of information that sounds almost too good to be true, but now that I’ve tried them out, I can say I’ve officially converted to period panties for my menstruation needs.

As an added plus, Feel Good & Company has pledged to donate a portion of the profits from Modibodi purchases to support underprivileged girls and women, to help them access improved sanitary care through women’s empowerment organisation Jabula Dames.
