I met Kyla through my boyfriend's soccer club - she was dating one of the guys. She'd just moved to my town for a job and knew barely anyone in town.

Meanwhile, I was growing apart from my high school friends, realising we didn't have much in common since we'd hung up our uniforms and grown out our emo side-fringes.

When Kyla came on strong like an over-eager Tinder date with a text the morning after we met demanding we "catch up ASAP!!!", I was excited and curious about having someone new in my life.
