Carol Mashigo's make-up bag

Fact file
Name: Carol Mashigo AKA Black Porcelain
Occupation: Singer and radio personality
Location: Cape Town

According to Ms. Mashigo, she'd be 'heartbroken' if Clinique ever stopped making their Turnaround Concentrate Visible Skin Renewer. "I use it at night and can feel the difference on my skin almost immediately," she says. "Especially since my skin gets so dry and scaly in winter."

Her other cosmetic must-haves? Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream, Clinique Long Last Glosswear in Knockout Nude and Clinique High Impact mascara in Black. "I only use it at night because it's too dramatic for daytime," she says. She also likes Bobbi Brown Creamy eye pencil in Jet Black, calling it 'the most amazing eye pencil ever'. "I sometimes use it as eye shadow when I want to create smoky eyes because it has a smudger."

When it comes to taking care of her skin, Carol likes Clinique products and uses their range for oily skin. "On my body, I use Bio Oil and Nivea Irresistibly Smooth body lotion," she says.

When it comes to hair care, Carol says she recently started growing dreadlocks and has found that now her hair isn't so 'brittle' anymore. "I use Jabu Stone conditioning shampoo and moulding cream. Both these products are made for natural hair and they have been great for my hair". She also uses Sunsilk Damage Repair conditioner and Caivil Natural Options Hair and Scalp Nourisher spray to help stop her scalp and hair from getting too dry. "I used to relax my hair for a long time," she says. "This is the first time that I am taking care of my hair without depending on a salon. So far, so good."

Now it's time for a few quick questions!

What's the best beauty advice you've ever received?
"Take care of your skin and always smell great!" Advice from my mom, she is a perfume woman; she prefers perfume to make-up. I have problem skin and feel much more confidant when I'm not wearing make-up and my skin is 'just perfect'. It makes all the difference.

What colour nail polishes are you rocking this winter?

I am not a nail polish girl. I only ever paint my toenails and right now I'm rocking a deep red colour on my toes.

What's your biggest beauty no-no?

Shaving off your eyebrows only to draw them back on again. Please ladies, don't do that. Just get them shaped! I also think it's a no-no when people use a foundation three shades lighter or darker than their actual skin colour.

What perfume do you wear?
In winter I wear Thierry Mugler's Angel. My mom gave it to me when I was in my late teens and it always makes me feel so sophisticated. That or Calvin Klein Euphoria. In summer I either use DKNY Be Delicious or Clinique Happy Heart.

If we had to snoop around in your bathroom (and we sooo would given the chance), what would we find in your shower or around your bath?

I am always trying new shower gels. If it smells good I will try it out.

Finally, a last word of beauty advice for the girls at w24.co.za?
A great bra, skin and fragrance make a huge difference. Believe me! It even affects the way I perform live.

Carol's busy working on her debut album, Invincible Summer, and has a single out called 'Are You Listening?' It's available for free download here. Otherwise, you can catch her on Kfm on Saturdays between 2 and 6pm.

Do you also have dreads? What products do you use to maintain them?
