This bride hasn’t bought new clothes and shoes for a year, she re-wears her wedding dress instead, here’s why

43-year-old tour coordinator Tammy Hall married orchestra manager Karen Frost in late 2018, after she spent a year not buying new clothes or shoes to support of sustainable living.

Tammy, from Adelaide in South Australia, made the decision after a trip to India changed her outlook.

In November 2017, after same sex marriage became legal, the couple married in 5 October 2018.

For her dress she enlisted the help of a dressmaker to create something bespoke. The dress cost around GBP 985 (about R18 500).

"Knowing I was going to wear it again didn't actually impact on my choices. I can see how people would think I'd maybe go for something less bridal and more everyday, but I didn't - I went with my heart," says Tammy.

She has since worn her wedding dress repeatedly, posting snaps of the occasions on Instagram. Places she has worn it have included commuter trains, while cooking, to the gym and to chop wood. She even wore it to a visit to Hobbiton in New Zealand, the set from the Lord of the Rings films.

She plans to pack it in her suitcase for her trip to Iceland she is taking with Karen in the next coming summer.

"Each to their own, but for me, this was the most ethical way I could think of to justify having a wedding dress. Everything seems so disposable - but this dress, and these memories will last a lifetime," says Tammy.
