  • A woman has been criticised by her friends for wearing the same dress to all their weddings.
  • She explained that she only has a small number of warm-weather attires, and not a lot of options.
  • She took to Reddit to ask whether she was wrong for repeating the dress.

When a friend gets married, it's all fun until you have to go shopping for clothes for the wedding, and that means emptying your pockets. Many people believe you have to wear different clothes at every event because it's 'embarrassing' to repeat the clothes.

But a woman from Canada decided that she was not going to give in to the pressure. She bought one dress and wore it to all her friends’ weddings.

Sharing her story on Reddit, she said: “I live in Canada now with my husband but went to grade school in the states. So all my clothes are for cold weather only, and I only have a small number of dresses, skirts and warm weather attire.

“Most of my friends are in the states (California), and when I’m there, I rotate 3 dresses (a black one, a blue one, and one for the holidays) and a couple of shorts. So I’ve worn the same blue dress for all my friend’s weddings.”

She stated that with the latest wedding, she got an invite with the message, ‘don’t you dare wear that same blue dress.’

“I’ve been teased by my friends about wearing the same thing. I also think the culture in California is to have a large wardrobe since I’ve never seen my friends wear the same thing twice," she shared.

“I only have a small wardrobe, and most of my clothes are for functions and work rather than parties since I only go out a few times a year and it’s too cold for dresses normally."

Although she doesn't have a problem with repeating the dress, she is wondering if she is wrong for wearing the same dress to all her friend’s weddings.

"Do I have to buy a new dress for my friend’s wedding when she specifically said I can’t wear the same one? It’s not in bad shape it’s only been worn a dozen times,” she shared.

One Reddit user saw no problem with the woman's predicament, commenting: “No one is entitled to variety in other people’s outfits. Fast fashion is a plague on the environment. Wearing the same nice dress multiple times is thrifty, good for the environment, and entirely a personal choice.”

However, another user felt differently and said, “Is it really such a big deal to get one new dress? Not even an expensive dress, I've found beautiful dresses by thrifting and even at an H&M. You don't have to break the bank, really. I mean, if this is something that truly offends you, then you are technically not wrong to stand your ground, but I don't think that this is the hill to die on, and I also think it might be a bit dramatic to ask someone to pay for your dress. This is a small fry issue.”
