Kelly Rowland is stunning in a proudly South African design

Our very own Gert-Johan Cotzee, who is currently based in Johannesburg,  met the mega star singer in September where he promised to create something special for her. And boy, did he deliver!

Kelly wowed Hollywood fashionistas in a black beaded dress described by critics as “the most elegant of little black dresses we’ve seen on Kelly in quite some time”.

She wore the proudly South African design to the 40th anniversary of the Ms Foundation for Women in honour of its founder, the feminist icon Gloria Steinem, in Beverly Hills.

And she even mentioned GJC on Instagram:

“As a designer I get so much satisfaction if any woman wearing GJC gets compliments, so to see that a megastar in one of my dresses is called the best dressed at a Hollywood event, is like champagne straight into my veins!” says Gert Johan.

This isn't the first time that a celeb has worn a GJC creation on the red carpet though - in 2011 Kourtney Kardashian wore a strapless gold Gert-Johan Coetzee dress, weaved with white vintage lace from the 1930’s. Click here for pics.

We wonder if he'll consider making a version of the winning dress for local fashionistas with deep pockets?

His reply? “I have too many ideas… I don’t ever make exactly the same dress twice!”
