  • Many stars, including gymnast Simone Biles, came out to play at The 75th Met Gala event to celebrate the new exhibit themed “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” in New York last night.
  • Simone made a strong statement as she attended her first Met Gala event in a three-in-one ensemble consisting of a hand-embellished skirt covered in Swarovski crystals and weighing 44kg.
  • The three-in-one masterpiece, designed by Beckett Fogg and Piotrek Panszczyk of Area, was carried up the iconic staircase by six men.

The 75th Met Gala event is not the first IRL red carpet event post-Covid, however, it just might be what the stars and the fashion world need to finally start healing and rebuild life as we previously knew it.

After a hiatus in 2020 due to the pandemic, it was refreshing to see a star studded red carpet that had us coveting after one or two (read: all) the intricate gowns that made a showing.

And then enter Simone Biles, and we all now know that she's not only a showstopper on the field, she owned the red carpet too.

But even though she's as strong as she is, it still took six men to help carry the three-in-one custom gown that weighs 44 kg up the stairs.

The gown was designed by Becket Fogg and Piotrek Panszczyk of Area and took 100 people and 6 650 hours to make. It consists of a hand-embellished skirt with Swarovski crystals, a mini dress under it, and a glittering black catsuit.

“How do I feel in the dress? It’s definitely heavy, but I feel beautiful, strong, and empowered,” Simone told Vogue at her final dress fitting.

Despite the weight of the dress, the gymnast dazzled and was without a doubt one of the best dressed stars to grace the red carpet.

As the night went on, Simone had some comfort as she transformed her dress by revealing the mini dress and catsuit underneath the long train.
