The 2019 Met Gala isn’t happening for a few months, but the news that Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, Serena Williams, and Gucci’s creative director, Alessandro Michelle, will serve as co-chairs for the event already has us all excited.

There was even more reason to be excited when a rumour started making the rounds that the most talked about royal of 2018, Meghan Markle, could make an appearance at the show to support her friend Serena.

But Meghan and Harry are expecting their first baby, and chances are that the royal baby announcement has only been made after her first trimester, which leaves 6-7 months of her pregnancy. Since the Met Gala is said to be held May 19 next year, chances are that she would leave her firstborn so quickly after giving birth are very slim.

But we still enjoyed dreaming.

This wouldn’t be the first time a royal went to fashion’s biggest night. Princess Diana once went to the Met wearing Dior and this year Princess Beatrice attended in an Alberta Ferretti gown.

The 2019 theme for the Met Gala will be Camp: Notes on Fashion which was structured around Susan Sontag’s seminal 1964 essay Notes on ‘Camp’.  What exactly is “camp”? Well, here’s the most cited quote from Susan’s essay to give you an idea: “The essence of Camp is its love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration.”

So basically we’re going a little over the top, a little extra, giving you fashion lewks but keeping it classy.

So what would Meghan choose for this kind of occasion? Camp is definitely not her style, but she could play around with something a little more muted, but still out there for the occasion.

Here are a few options from popular designers:

Meghan could try one of these simple, but still camp designs from Virgil Abloh's Off-White. Both Beyonce and Tracee Ellis Ross have worn these designs.

Gucci did this wonderfully camp, but glamorous look for singer/songwriter/DJ Chris Lee aka Li Yuchun.

Italian actress Miriam Leone wore this Gucci dress to the Gucci Spring 2019 show.

She could try some Balenciaga.

Meghan loves her monochrome and more understated looks. Perhaps something similar to these pieces from Maison Margiela would work for her?
