Ah, it's that time of the year again - soirees are plenty, summer romances are blossoming and everyone is as jolly a fellow as the Springboks when they landed back in South Africa.
From weddings to office end-year functions to birthdays, our calendars are fully booked and our social batteries in constant need of recharging. And do you know what else also needs a bit of power boost every now and then? Our wardrobes.
With major fashion events such the Standard Bank Polo right around the corner - the first-ever Action Polo on the African Continent - it's paramount that one goes scouting for a new ensemble.
This event is set to take place at Joburg’s most renowned mixed-use lifestyle resort, Steyn City, on Saturday 16 November 2019.
So what will you wear to this star-studded daytime do?
Before I give you our top recommendations, I must echo my usual advice with regards to afternoon glam; "even if is there's a red carpet laid out, proceed with daytime-conscious caution".
Local designer Matte Nolim also agreed with me previously on this staunch rule of mine, advising that we "shy away from traditional red carpet style and lean more towards cocktail/high-end daytime dress" for a day at the races or the polo.
When putting your look together for the Standard Bank Polo, the key words to keep in mind are "luxury" and "travel" (even if it's time traveling).
Here's all the inspo you need for the 'Nomadic Couture' theme:
Christian Dior Couture S/S20 Cruise Collection on April 29, 2019 in Marrakech, Morocco.
Statement gowns with generous amounts of fabric that you can actually breathe and walk in. This silhouette also makes for a flattering one on all body types. Play with prints and applique to add a subtle touch of wealth to your look.
Unpopular opinion? Much like the models below, there's something unexpectedly regal about wearing flats with a flowy luxurious gown. Try it. It's going to be a long day of sipping bubbly after all.
