29 Jul 2016

Please join us again in two hours for the build-up to FP2. Cheers.

29 Jul 2016

Rosberg ends FP1 fastest of all, 0.326s up on Hamilton while Vettel is third.

29 Jul 2016

The chequered flag is out and FP1 is over.

29 Jul 2016

Grosjean has an oft in the Mercedes Arena, taking a trip across the gravel.

29 Jul 2016

Alonso has a complaint about the Ferraris. He said: "They need to make a new circuit for the Ferraris so that they can run alone."

29 Jul 2016

Button is reporting that his McLaren is getting rather "snappy".

29 Jul 2016

Force India appear to be off the boil at present with Hulkenberg 15th to Perez's 16th. The team, though, does sometimes take their time getting up to speed.

29 Jul 2016

It is also a good showing for McLaren with Alonso seventh and Button eighth fastest.

29 Jul 2016

Both Toro Rossos are now inside the top ten as Sainz has gone P10. He is 0.3s slower than his team-mate.

29 Jul 2016

Great lap from Kvyat puts him up into ninth place in his Toro Rosso. He has rubbished rumours that he will be replaced at the end of this season.

29 Jul 2016

Wehrlein, last on the timesheet, is 4.4s off the pace.

29 Jul 2016

Only six drivers are two seconds within Rosberg's P1 time, Hamilton, Vettel, Verstappen, Ricciardo and Alonso.

29 Jul 2016

Verstappen moves up to fourth place, 1.4s down.

29 Jul 2016

Button reports "really strange braking into Turn 6" and seems to be really unhappy with his braking energy.

29 Jul 2016

Massa slots in 10th place, 2.8s off the pace, and Verstappen is P11, 0.002s slower.

29 Jul 2016

Vettel improves to 1:16.7.

29 Jul 2016

Alonso has jumped up to fourth place on his supersofts, which puts him half a second up on Raikkonen's best.

29 Jul 2016

Hamilton posts a 1:15.8, which is 0.326s down on Rosberg's best.

29 Jul 2016

Hamilton joins his action out on track, also swapping the softs for supersofts.

29 Jul 2016

Another German out on track as Wehrlein joins the action.

29 Jul 2016

It is a 1:15.517, which is a whopping 1.892s up on Vettel's best on the same rubber.

29 Jul 2016

Rosberg breaks the silence as he heads out on a new set of supersoft tyres.

29 Jul 2016

Still no takers as silence reigns.

29 Jul 2016

Top ten: Rosberg, Vettel, Hamilton, Raikkonen, Ricciardo, Alonso, Verstappen, Sainz, Button and Bottas.

29 Jul 2016

The drivers are heading back into the pits to return their first set of tyres to Pirelli.

29 Jul 2016

Haas, Sauber, Renault and Manor are making up the final eight places on the timesheet.

29 Jul 2016

Bottas has a spin at the hairpin but is able to continue on his way.

29 Jul 2016

Alonso, who is out on the supersofts, has moved up to sixth place while Verstappen, on the softs, improves to seventh.

29 Jul 2016

Rosberg ups his pace to a 1:17.030. That means he is now 0.379s up on Vettel's best.

29 Jul 2016

Perhaps a bit of a concern for Ferrari as Rosberg has just beaten their drivers with a 1:17.1, and he's on the soft tyres.

29 Jul 2016

A 1:17.4 for Vettel as he takes over at the front. However, both Ferraris are lapping on the supersoft tyres whereas the Mercedes drivers and Ricciardo are on the softs.

29 Jul 2016

Ricciardo takes over at the front, lowering the benchmark, only for Raikkonen to come back with a 1:17.627. That is 0.071s up on Ricciardo's best.

29 Jul 2016

P1 for Raikkonen as he crosses the line with a 1:17.863.

29 Jul 2016

Kimi Raikkonen, Valtteri Bottas and Pascal Wehrlein have joined the action out on track.

29 Jul 2016

Hamilton completes his first flying lap and it is a 1:17.947.

29 Jul 2016

Ricciardo goes second quickest, 0.3s off Alonso's pace, and here comes Hamilton.

29 Jul 2016

Magnussen pitted after one lap, and now Ricciardo and Rio Haryanto are out. And it is a 1:19.4 from Verstappen.

29 Jul 2016

Kevin Magnussen breaks the silence as he heads out in his RS16. And here comes Verstappen for his first lap of the morning.

29 Jul 2016

Alonso stays out to set a time and it is a 1:18.8 for the McLaren driver.

29 Jul 2016

Max Verstappen is the only driver who has not yet put in a lap.

29 Jul 2016

Esteban Ocon is the other test driver in action, as he has taken Jolyon Palmer's Renault for FP1.

29 Jul 2016

Charles Leclerc leads out the field as he is back in action for Haas, taking Esteban Gutierrez's car for this session.

29 Jul 2016

The pit lane is green-lighted and FP1 begins.

29 Jul 2016

By the way, today is Fernando Alonso's birthday and this weekend marks Daniel Ricciardo's 100th GP.

29 Jul 2016

Five minutes to the start and the air temperature is 22'C, the track is up to 31'C.

29 Jul 2016

Thursday's Strategy Group also voted no to Halo, at least for 2017. It could yet be introduced the following season but the teams, and Bernie Ecclestone, want more development and more testing.

29 Jul 2016

They are also lightening up on track limits as it was pointed out that it is not that easy to prove that a driver received an advantage from running wide.

29 Jul 2016

The big news this weekend is that the FIA is adopting a "liberal approach" to the radio communication ban after yet more criticism in Hungary. At the request of the Teams and Commercial Rights Holder, the FIA has agreed to adopt a more liberal approach to the interpretation of Article 27.1 (that a driver must drive the car alone and unaided), read the FIA statement. With the exception of the period between the start of the formation lap and the start of the race, there will be no limitations on messages teams send to their drivers either by radio or pit board."

29 Jul 2016

The Mercedes team-mates arrived in Hockenheim separated by just six points in the Drivers' standings. But, for the first time this season, that advantage is in Hamilton's favour after his victory in Hungary.

29 Jul 2016

Formula 1 is back at the Hockenheimring for the first time in two years as the German GP returns to the Formula 1 calendar. Nico Rosberg is the defending champ but it is his team-mate Lewis Hamilton who is on a roll and this weekend promises to be a thrilling battle between the Mercedes drivers.

Hamilton completes that one of the Red Bulls are "really dangerous" as they have a close encounter.

29 Jul 2016

A run down on F1's German drivers: Rosberg is P1, Vettel P3, Hulkenberg, P7 and Wehrlein is P19.

29 Jul 2016

Hamilton has left the pits on a set of soft tyres that are already 11 laps old. But it was a short run and he is back into the pits to practice a start on his way out.

29 Jul 2016

Just ten minutes left in today's running.

29 Jul 2016

The gap between top, Rosberg, and bottom, Nasr, is 3.6s in this session compared to the 4.4s in FP1.

29 Jul 2016

Grosjean will reportedly not be heading back out as his VF16 has a suspected leak.

29 Jul 2016

Perez gets it wrong, again, and runs wide.

29 Jul 2016

Vettel is not happy, again. He reports that he is in traffic which means he is getting nothing out of his laps and he is not able to put in fast laps.

29 Jul 2016

Grosjean is out of his Haas and sitting on the pit wall talking to the team.

29 Jul 2016

Perez reports a "front left flat spot" as he completes his 19th lap on that set of supersofts.

Half an hour to go in FP2.

29 Jul 2016

Massa on his 13th lap now with supersofts.

29 Jul 2016

Hamilton five seconds slower now that he has put some laps on these supersoft tyres.

29 Jul 2016

Hulkenberg told by his team he is running wide on one of the turns!

29 Jul 2016

Alonso back at the garage studying his data.

29 Jul 2016

Vettel suffers a lock up there in the pits.

29 Jul 2016

40 minutes left in this session!

29 Jul 2016

Palmer has done the most laps today with 18.

29 Jul 2016

Long stints now expected from drivers.

29 Jul 2016

Woah! Alonso has a close call there as he almost slides off the track.

29 Jul 2016

Vettel using the benefits of DRS. Those flaps are working overtime.

29 Jul 2016

Nasr the slowest driver so far.

29 Jul 2016

Rosberg back in at the garage. Hamilton too.

29 Jul 2016

Lot's of drivers trying their luck as they go off the track over the kerbs. They better be careful!

29 Jul 2016

Wehrlein gets clocked in at 340km/h.

29 Jul 2016

29 Jul 2016

Hulkenberg joins Haryanto out there. Also on supersofts.

29 Jul 2016

The Indonesian out there on supersofts.

29 Jul 2016

Finally. Haryanto is back at it again. He likes getting out first it seems.

29 Jul 2016

Actually, everyone is in the pits now. No one is out on the track.

29 Jul 2016

Ricciardo also back in but he looks quite relaxed.

29 Jul 2016

Hulkenberg back in the garage. Still in his car though so he's probably gonna go back out soon.

29 Jul 2016

Couple of slips and slides there from Verstappen.

29 Jul 2016

Mercedes warns Hamilton not too go over the kerbs.

29 Jul 2016

And Hamilton goes fastest with a 1:17.067. No surprise there.

29 Jul 2016

Everyone on the grid has now set a lap time. No flying lap from Hamilton yet though.

29 Jul 2016

Woah! Hulkenberg goes fastest! 1:18.363

29 Jul 2016

Stoffel Vandoorne seen hovering around the pitlane. He must be eager to get his career going. Where do you think he will drive next year if not McLaren?

29 Jul 2016

Raikkonen just a fraction slower than him. How long will Scuderia be at the front though with Red Bull and Mercedes yet to make an entry.

29 Jul 2016

Vettel sets fastest time of 1:18.433.

29 Jul 2016

Nasr sets a first time of 1:21.155

29 Jul 2016

29 Jul 2016

Green light! FP2 is a go!

29 Jul 2016

Rosberg, Vettel and Wehrlein will surely be endeared by their home fans.

Supersoft qualy sims coming up and there is an immediate improvement from Bottas, who goes fifth.

At the back of the timesheets we have Kvyat, Button, Ericsson, Haryanto, Wehrlein and Grosjean.

30 Jul 2016

Button reports understeer in the gear, but adds that he also has no rear grip. That is not an easy problem to solve, at all!

30 Jul 2016

Ricciardo is up to sixth on the soft tyres, and Vettel goes third on the supersofts. The Ferrari driver is 0.366s off the pace.

30 Jul 2016

30 Jul 2016

Rosberg runs wide through Turn 2 as he tries to avoid destroying his tyres with a lock up.

30 Jul 2016

A shower of sparks from Verstappen's Red Bull as he heads down the straight. Ride height a bit too low to start with.

30 Jul 2016

Verstappen and Perez, who is being linked to a move to Renault for next season, are out on track and so too are Hulkenberg, Nasr, Bottas and Alonso.

30 Jul 2016

Hamilton dives back into the pits, making a late entry but he stays on the right side of the pit entrance cone. Replays have shown when Mercedes released the Brit from his garage, they did so right into Grosjean's path. The Haas driver had to brake to avoid contact.

30 Jul 2016

A bit of a scruffy end to Wehrlein's latest lap as he came up to traffic in the form of Palmer.

30 Jul 2016

The drivers all have the mediums, softs and supersofts on hand this weekend, however, most only opted for one set of the mediums. The supersofts are worth about a second per lap compared to the softs.

30 Jul 2016

Just a reminder that teams can use radio messages this weekend, and the track limits will be policed in a three strike rule.

30 Jul 2016

Nico Hulkenberg was seventh quickest ahead of Jenson Button, who went to the hospital after getting a piece of brake fragment in his eye, Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso. Button has been given the all-clear to compete in FP3 and the remainder of the German GP weekend.
