12 May 2019

So there you have it, yet another 1-2 for Mercedes, with Hamilton retaking the championship lead from Bottas. Their battle seems to be the story of the season, with Ferrari nowhere near them. Join us next time in Monaco to see if the silver arrows can get their sixth (!!) straight 1-2.

12 May 2019

Grosjean did at least hang on for a point, finishing behind Sainz and Kvyat.

12 May 2019

Pierre Gasly finished a solid P6. Nowhere near his team-mate, but it's progress nonetheless... Behind him is Magnussen who may be in a bit of trouble with his bosses at Haas after he compromised his team-mate's race...

12 May 2019

Another poor day for Ferrari, who didn't seem to have the pace or the strategy to fight Verstappen, let alone the Mercedes'. Vettel beats Leclerc narrowly, with both dropping bellow Verstappen in the standings.

12 May 2019

And Hamilton wins in Spain! Bottas comes home second and Verstappen completes the podium.

12 May 2019

Who's your driver of the day? Hamilton has been utterly dominant, Verstappen has comfortably seen off the Ferrari's and Kvyat has made some great moves.

12 May 2019

Well, we asked for a safety car, got it, and it turned out to benefit the Mercedes drivers. Can anything go wrong for them this season?

12 May 2019

The main battle is for P10 now, with Grosjean holding off Albon and Ricciardo for now.

12 May 2019

Nothing much happening up front.

12 May 2019

Sainz now successfully takes Grosjean a lap later. Something tells me the Frenchman won't be too pleased with his team-mate...

12 May 2019

Sainz now attacking Grosjean and they touch wheels.

12 May 2019

Grosjean trying hard to get back past Magnussen now, having to take the escape road after the Dane defends typically aggressively.

12 May 2019

Hamilton is almost four seconds clear already. Sigh...

12 May 2019

Gasly attacks Leclerc on the restart before having to defend from Magnussen who'd overtaken Grosjean. As you were, everywhere else.

12 May 2019

Safety Car coming in!

12 May 2019

A pit stop issue at Toro Rosso drops Albon out of the points and puts Sainz up into P10.

12 May 2019

Hamilton and Leclerc both pit, so the top six will all be together on fresh(ish) tyres. That's worked out beautifully for the Brit.

12 May 2019

Safety car! Norris and Stroll crash at the entry to turn two as the Brit rather ambitiously goes for a pass.

12 May 2019

Bottas pits first and goes on to the softs.

12 May 2019

Hamilton's tyres have pretty bad blisters, he'll almost definitely need to pit again. Interesting...

12 May 2019

Verstappen pits for fresh mediums and comes out between the Ferrari cars, with Leclerc on old hards.

12 May 2019

Not to get anyone's hopes up, but if, and it's a big if, the tyres on the Mercedes cars don't last, we could have a hell of a battle for the win later on.

12 May 2019

Not for long though as he passes Gasly almost immediately.

12 May 2019

Vettel pits for medium tyres. No issues this time as the pit was done in a rapid 2.2 seconds. He rejoins the track just behind Pierre Gasly.

12 May 2019

Kvyat has overtaken Magnussen to move into P8. It's been a great weekend for him so far.

12 May 2019

Finally, Ferrari have switched the drivers, with Vettel now free to try and chase down Verstappen.

12 May 2019

Leclerc being told that himself and Vettel are on the same strategy, while Vettel is being told the complete opposite. You guys don't help yourselves, do you?

12 May 2019

Once again, Ferrari taking agessssss to make a decision regarding team orders, meaning Vettel is losing quite a bit of time.

12 May 2019

The top six have all pitted, with Verstappen on the softs, Leclerc on the hards and the other four on the mediums. So, Verstappen and Vettel will almost certainly pit, Leclerc presumably won't and neither will Mercedes depending on how those mediums last.

12 May 2019

Vettel now less than a second behind Leclerc. Expect our second batch of team orders for the day anytime now.

12 May 2019

Bottas pits for mediums and comes out ahead of Verstappen, although only by 1.6 seconds.

12 May 2019

Considering Vettel has just gone purple on the mediums, it seems bizarre that they'd put Leclerc on the mediums.

12 May 2019

Leclerc comes in and goes onto the hard tyres, with Ferrari having the exact same issue that they had with Vettel.

12 May 2019

Albon has just pulled off a great move on Kimi Raikkonen for P15, going around the outside at turn four. Elsewhere, Ricciardo has, at last, got past Carlos Sainz, before they both pit.

12 May 2019

Gasly next in the pits and goes onto the mediums. Meanwhile, Vettel has much better pace now.

12 May 2019

I'd kill for a bit of rain. Or a safety car. Or a mechanical issue at Mercedes. Anything that could shake things up really...

12 May 2019

Verstappen the next in, going onto the soft tyres. They'll be going for a two-stop then.

12 May 2019

Vettel *finally* gets his wish, going on to the medium tyres. It wasn't a great pit stop due to an issue with the rear left wheel...

12 May 2019

Vettel now literally begging for a pit stop as Pierre Gasly begins to catch him.

12 May 2019

The only interesting battle right now is between Sainz and Ricciardo for P11, with the Aussie looking for one of his signature lunges down the inside.

12 May 2019

Leclerc has pulled away by three seconds already. If only Ferrari let him through sooner.

12 May 2019

Vettel struggling on his tyres and will presumably be going onto a different strategy to Leclerc now.

12 May 2019

And Vettel, after team orders, lets his team-mate through!

12 May 2019

Verstappen is now in no man's land, three seconds behind Bottas and four seconds ahead of Vettel.

12 May 2019

Leclerc now clearly much quicker than his team-mate and losing time. We all know what would happen if it were the other way around...

12 May 2019

I imagine quite a few people may be switching over to the football in about 30 minutes...

12 May 2019

Leclerc putting Vettel under pressure now. What do you say, Ferrari?

12 May 2019

Giovinazzi is the first to pit, going onto the hard tyre. If they're going to the end on them, those tyres will be threadbare by the end of the race...

12 May 2019

Surprisingly, Verstappen is hanging on to the back of Bottas but the Ferrari's are being dropped pretty rapidly.

12 May 2019

Hamilton and Bottas now trading fastest laps, with the gap staying the same.

12 May 2019

Norris the big loser from that start, dropping down to P16.

12 May 2019

Hamilton has a two second lead over Bottas who has Verstappen all over the back of him.

12 May 2019

We're off! Hamilton has a great start and takes the lead. Behind, Vettel locks up and goes wide, losing out to Verstappen.

12 May 2019

Here we go...

12 May 2019

The formation lap is underway...

12 May 2019

Norris says conditions are likely to push people towards a two-stop strategy...

12 May 2019

The national anthem is now playing. If rumours regarding Zandvoort are to be believed, it could be the last time we hear it in F1 for a while...

12 May 2019

Verstappen: "Compared to Ferrari we have a chance. They're not strong in the last sector and the draft is really powerful with these cars so hopefully with strategy we can have a good race."

12 May 2019

Horner: "It's a lot hotter today which will have a big effect on tyres and strategy. I think we can take it to Ferrari, we've generally had better pace in the race than qualifying so hopefully a good race..."

12 May 2019

Ricciardo: "We've got the pace to be better than where we start. I think the strategy will come into play and hopefully, we'll get ourselves into the points."

12 May 2019

Gunther Steiner says he's hoping for a boring race for his Haas boys. C'mon Gunther, think of us fans...

12 May 2019

All ready some shenanigans with Hamilton and Vettel as the Brit almost goes flying into the back of the German at the pit lane entry. Hamilton does his usual whinge on the team radio, claiming that Vettel was driving "really dangerously".

12 May 2019

The cars are making their way to the grid now. Just over half an hour until lights out.

12 May 2019

Valtteri Bottas is currently sat back in his garage sipping an espresso, those Finn's really do feel the pressure, eh?

12 May 2019

It's a sunny, dry day in Barcelona, with an air temperature of 18'C. Rain rain, go to Spain and all that...

12 May 2019

The remainder of the grid is: P11 ALB, P12 SAI, P13 RIC, P14 RAI, P15 PER, P16 STR, P17 KUB, P18 GIO, P19 RUS, P20 HUL (pit lane)

12 May 2019

Completing the top ten are Daniil Kvyat, who had an impressive day yesterday, and Lando Norris, who narrowly missed out on Q3 but moves up due to Daniel Ricciardo's grid penalty.

12 May 2019

Next up are the Haas boys, driving a much-improved car from the weekend. Both drivers, led narrowly by Grosjean, were closer to Leclerc's Ferrari than they were to the rest of the midfield, which is impressive, to say the least.

12 May 2019

Starting behind them are their team-mates, Leclerc, who qualified a disappointing P5, and Gasly, who seems to be finally finding his feet in the Red Bull.

12 May 2019

It's also the same second row as in Baku, with Vettel P3 and Verstappen P4. If we don't want another Mercedes bore fest (no offence guys), at least one of these guys will need a hell of a start.

12 May 2019

It's the same old story at the front, with the Mercedes boys locking out the front row. One surprise though may be leading Silver Arrow, as Bottas went over half a second quicker than Hamilton yesterday to take his third consecutive pole position.

11 May 2019

Hulkenberg is a big shock there, and Ricciardo only just made it to Q2, the Renault looks weak here. Stroll meanwhile continues his terrible qualifying form, making it nine (!!) consecutive Q1 exits for him.

11 May 2019

Raikkonen and Perez get themselves out of danger, meaning the five knocked out are HUL, STR, GIO, RUS AND KUB.

11 May 2019

Hulkenberg does a 1:18:594 to go P15 and push Perez down into the bottom five.

11 May 2019

With five minutes to go, the drivers in the drop zone are the Alfa Romeos, the Williams' and Hulkenberg, who is yet to set a time.

11 May 2019

The Mercedes drivers post their first times, with Bottas now P1 and Hamilton P3.

11 May 2019

Verstappen is currently P1 with a 1:17:244, around half a second clear of the Ferrari boys.

11 May 2019

We have a yellow flag due to a yellow car. Hulkenberg went off into the gravel, taking his wing off in the process. He'll be able to nurse it back to the pits though.

11 May 2019

Robert Kubica posts the first time on the board with a 1:21:860.

11 May 2019

And we're underway in Q1!

11 May 2019

The drivers will be pleased to see that the sun has come out and it's a little warmer than this morning when many drivers struggled to warm up their tyres in the cooler temperatures. There are still clouds lurking though...

11 May 2019

The rest of the grid is near impossible to predict, with the midfield battle looking incredibly tight. Only one thing is certain; Williams will be last. Specifically, George Russell will be due to a five-place grid penalty picked up after the team changed his gearbox following his crash in FP3.

11 May 2019

Ferrari and Mercedes will almost certainly be the top two teams, but Red Bull are by no means guaranteed to be third after the upgraded Haas' pace so far this weekend.

11 May 2019

It was business as usual in practice this morning, with Lewis Hamilton comfortably quickest. Bottas may have been below the Ferraris, but he had limited running after beaching his car in the gravel.

11 May 2019

The drivers out in Q2 are NOR, ALB, SAI, RAI AND PER

11 May 2019

Ricciardo has found some pace and goes P10, dropping Norris down to the drop zone.

11 May 2019

Norris goes P7 and Albon P8. Sainz is out.

11 May 2019

Five minutes to go now. The top eight places seem pretty set, with Sainz and Ricciardo currently occupying the final two spots.

11 May 2019

As I type that, Grosjean puts in a 1:17:290 to go above Leclerc who lost some parts of his car after going wide.

11 May 2019

The Mercedes drivers are quite a bit quicker than the rest of the grid right now. Hopefully, Ferrari are hiding some pace. If not, they'll be fighting Red Bull and maybe even Haas, which would be embarrassing, to say the least.

11 May 2019

Hamilton sets a new track record with a 1:16:038, and it's not even Q3...

11 May 2019

Q2 is underway here, with Charles Leclerc following Hamilton out.

11 May 2019

Well, that's that. Bottas is looking seriously strong here, and if he maintains his form tomorrow, Hamilton will have a hard time beating him. The race will start at 15:10 local time and our coverage an hour before. Thanks and see you then!

11 May 2019

The full grid for tomorrow, with penalties applied, is: P1 BOT, P2 HAM, P3 VET, P4 VER, P5 LEC, P6 GAS, P7 GRO, P8 MAG, P9 KVY, P10 NOR, P11 ALB, P12 SAI, P13 RIC, P14 RAI, P15 PER, P16 HUL, P17 STR, P18 GIO, P19 KUB, P20 RUS.

11 May 2019

Well, it's confirmed. Valtteri Bottas is on pole position after a stunning lap! He was over half a second quicker than his teammate.

11 May 2019

Nor do Verstappen and Leclerc, meaning the Dutchman splits the Ferraris with Leclerc in a Red Bull sandwich.

11 May 2019

Bottas, Vettel and Hamilton don't improve!

11 May 2019

Everybody out on track now, here we go...

11 May 2019

Leclerc goes only P5, slower than Max Verstappen.

11 May 2019

Cars returning to the pits now before their second runs as Leclerc goes out for his first.

11 May 2019

Verstappen does a 1:16:157 to go P4, with Gasly P5, four tenths slower.

11 May 2019

Bottas does a 1:15:406! That's some serious pace.

11 May 2019

Hamilton does a 1:16:040, but Botta sand Vettel are going quicker...

11 May 2019

Here we go then, Q3. It looks like it'll be a straight fight between the Mercedes drivers for pole. Who's your money on?

10 May 2019

Join us in around two hours for live coverage of FP2. See you then!

10 May 2019

Well, that'll bring an end to FP1. The top ten are: BOT, VET, LEC, HAM, GRO, SAI, MAG, GAS, KVY, HUL.

10 May 2019

Just as it looked like we'd go an entire session without a major incident, Lance Stroll causes a red flag after flying into the barriers at turn nine.

10 May 2019

Bottas too seems to have had an oil leak in the garage... Meanwhile, Russell has managed to lose a mirror while driving on track.

10 May 2019

The Red Bull of Max Verstappen has had an oil leak, with the floor of the garage getting covered. That'll spell the end of a disappointing session for the Dutchman.

10 May 2019

Cars have now returned to the pits and are heading back out for what will presumably be their final runs of the session.

10 May 2019

The Ferrari's, led by Vettel, have both put in strong laps, moving ahead of Hamilton and within two tenths of Bottas.

10 May 2019

The Mercedes drivers have finally put in some quick laps, with Bottas going P1 with a 1:17:990. Hamilton goes P3, half a second slower.

10 May 2019

As I say that, Grosjean takes a trip through the gravel. Thankfully though, it looks like his car's upgraded bodywork is unscathed.

10 May 2019

Gunther Steiner has been talking a lot about the major upgrades for Haas this weekend, and he'll be happy with today so far, as Grosjean is currently sat in P3, just half a second off Vettel.

10 May 2019

Lewis Hamilton is currently sat in P18 which is a strange sight, to say the least...

10 May 2019

With just under an hour to go in FP1, every driver has set multiple laps. Can you guess who the bottom two are? Yep, it's the Williams boys.

10 May 2019

Daniel Ricciardo is currently sat in P3. Don't expect to see him that high tomorrow since he has a three-place grid penalty for reversing into poor old Kvyat in Baku.

10 May 2019

Vettel has just put in a 1:18:407, putting him P1, eight tenths clear of his teammate.

10 May 2019

Bottas and Verstappen then come dangerously close to each other at the chicane; the Dutchman isn't too happy.

10 May 2019

The big boys are putting some laps in now, with Charles Leclerc leading Valtteri Bottas and Sebastian Vettel.

10 May 2019

As per usual, the two Mercedes drivers are two of the last drivers now not on track.

10 May 2019

Pierre Gasly is the first driver to set a time, clocking a lap of 1:21:410.

10 May 2019

We have green lights, with the Toro Rosso of Daniil Kvyat leading the way.

10 May 2019

It's set to be a warm, dry weekend here, with a current temperature of 19'C. Not that I'd wish bad weather upon the many spectators, but there's not a lot I wouldn't do for some rain come Sunday...

10 May 2019

Below the top three, the following six teams will all be hoping to be the best of the rest. So far this season, it's been a tight midfield battle with no real pecking order forming. With each team bringing their first batch of major upgrades to Barcelona though, this could change.

10 May 2019

Back in 2016, Red Bull benefitted from a double Mercedes DNF to win via Max Verstappen in his first race at the team. If they wish to do so again, they'll be hoping for a similar occurrence, unless of course, their upgrades have made a major impact.

10 May 2019

Ferrari meanwhile, have not won here since 2013. They'll need to change this if they want to maintain any hope of mounting a title challenge this season. They were the fastest here at testing, so perhaps there's a chance...

10 May 2019

Coming to Spain, Mercedes not only have a dominant lead in the standings, but also have an incredibly dominant record at this track. It'd take a brave man to bet against them this weekend...

10 May 2019

Good morning and welcome to the Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona, the venue for round 5, the Spanish Grand Prix. All times are local.

10 May 2019

So, a good day for the likes of Mercedes and Haas, while Ferrari will be hoping to find more pace tomorrow. Join us then, with FP2 starting at 12pm local time.

10 May 2019

The chequered flag is out and the running order in the top is BOT, HAM, LEC, VET, VER, GRO, GAS, MAG, SAI, KVY.

10 May 2019

Hamilton reporting that he's struggling and that something feels wrong with the car.

10 May 2019

Five minutes to go now.

10 May 2019

Gasly and the man he replaced, Ricciardo, have just come close to crashing, with the former blocking the latter off.

10 May 2019

It looks like Mercedes have better race pace than Ferrari here, hurray...

10 May 2019

Not many drivers putting in quick laps now, with many instead going on longer runs.

10 May 2019

The top eight is made up of two Mercedes', two Ferraris, two Red Bulls and two Haas'. Is there a clear pecking order forming for the weekend?

10 May 2019

Just under half an hour left now, and Mercedes have quite a comfortable lead at the top.

10 May 2019

Kimi Raikkonen is the latest to find himself on the gravel, but gets through it unscathed. He's currently P11, going considerably better than earlier today.

10 May 2019

He only stays there for about half a lap as his team-mate Bottas goes 0.126 seconds quicker.

10 May 2019

Hamilton goes nearly two tenths faster though with a 1:17:410.

10 May 2019

Leclerc has gone top with a 1:17:585. He did so on the soft tyres.

10 May 2019

His team-mate Magnussen now goes P5. If they take this form into tomorrow, they'll be in very strong shape indeed.

10 May 2019

The upgraded Haas of Romain Grosjean continues to impress as he sits in P4 on a 1:18:153.

10 May 2019

There's nothing to choose between the Ferrari's, who occupy P1 and P2. Vettel currently leads Leclerc by 0.027 seconds.

10 May 2019

Hamilton has just had a "moment", missing the corner and having to bail out and cut the chicane. He hasn't had the best of time in Friday practice so far.

10 May 2019

Not for long though, as Bottas goes top on the mediums with a 1:18:259.

10 May 2019

Vettel is back on top with a 1:18:546.

10 May 2019

Lance Stroll is the only driver yet to leave the pits, but the team have been working hard on repairs and are confident he'll get some laps in.

10 May 2019

Robert Kubica loses the back end of his car and spins, ending up in the pitlane entrance.

10 May 2019

Vettel, on the medium tyres, goes top briefly before Magnussen goes faster on the same tyre with a 1:18:873.

10 May 2019

We have green lights and it is the Haas of Kevin Magnussen who is the first out.

10 May 2019

As per usual, the two Williams cars were the two last cars, with Kubica finishing just above Russell. The Pole was just 0.3 seconds behind Kimi Raikkonen in P18. I imagine that won't be the case this time tomorrow...

10 May 2019

In the midfield, Haas looked strong after promising some big upgrades for this weekend. Grosjean finished the session in P5 with teammate Magnussen P7.

10 May 2019

Things did start to go wrong for a few teams towards the end of the session. Both Verstappen and Bottas encountered oil leaks shortly before Stroll caused a red flag after crashing heavily into the barriers.

10 May 2019

There were few talking points in the first practice session this morning. As expected, Mercedes and Ferrari locked out the top four positions, with Bottas P1 and Hamilton P4, and Vettel and Leclerc splitting them.

10 May 2019

11 May 2019

Next up is qualifying in two hours, join us then.

11 May 2019

Well, that's that for FP3. The top ten are HAM, LEC, BOT, VET, GRO, MAG, VER, ALB, RAI, SAI.

11 May 2019

We have another red flag as George Russell goes off at turn four and hits the tyre barrier. The car looks okay, but it'll have to be removed from the gravel.

11 May 2019

Grosjean goes P4 with a 1:17:192 on the softs. Could Haas challenge Red Bull in qualifying?

11 May 2019

Not for long though, as Hamilton goes half a second quicker.

11 May 2019

Leclerc has now gone quickest with a 1:17:099.

11 May 2019

The Toro Rosso's are looking strong today. Albon is currently P4 and Kvyat is P8.

11 May 2019

The Mercedes of Bottas has now completed it's long journey back to the pits, with the team mechanics pushing it into the garage as we speak.

11 May 2019

Hamilton has gone fastest with a 1:17:655 on the medium tyre.

11 May 2019

The session is now underway again.

11 May 2019

We have a red flag! Bottas beaches his car in the gravel and it'll need to be removed by a recovery vehicle. Not an ideal start to the day for the Finn.

11 May 2019

Following his lap, Vettel span on the chicane at the end of the track before heading into the points.

11 May 2019

The Ferrari's have now both set times, with Vettel P1 with a 1:18:255 on the soft tyres, and Leclerc 0.066 seconds behind in P2 on the same tyre.

11 May 2019

The first time of the day goes to Robert Kubica who does a 1:28:795.

11 May 2019

FP3 is now underway, with Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz the first drivers out.

11 May 2019

It's another dry sunny day in Spain with a current temperature of 18'C.

11 May 2019

The rest of the midfield was as close as usual, with less than a second splitting Carlos Sainz in P9 and Sergio Perez in P18.

11 May 2019

After the usual top two teams were Red Bull and Haas, who seem to have a strong upgraded package for the weekend.

11 May 2019

Valtteri Bottas and Mercedes set the pace on Friday with the Finn crossing the line with a 1:17.284. That put him 0.049s ahead of his team-mate Lewis Hamilton while Charles Leclerc was third. The Ferrari driver was 0.3s down with Sebastian Vettel a further tenth off the pace.

11 May 2019

Welcome back to the Circuit de Catalunya for Saturday's third and final practice session of the Spanish Grand Prix. All times are local.
