09 Jun 2019

Anyway, Lewis Hamilton wins yet again to consolidate his now sizable lead at the top of the championship. Ferrari have reasons to be optimistic heading to France though after their pace this weekend. Can they finally get their first win of the season? Join us there to find out.

09 Jun 2019

He doesn't fancy the podium either... It's an incredibly brave cameraman that's following him storm through the paddock.

09 Jun 2019

Vettel is fuming and has boycotted the post race interview...

09 Jun 2019

Gasly had a quite frankly terrible day and finished P8, ahead of the much more impressive Lance Stroll and Daniil Kvyat.

09 Jun 2019

Verstappen finishes P5, ahead of Ricciardo and Hulkenberg. An excellent, and much needed, haul of points for Renault.

09 Jun 2019

Leclerc doesn't quite do enough to get P2 and finishes third, ahead of Bottas who gets the extra point for fastest lap.

09 Jun 2019

Vettel crosses the line first, but the win goes to Lewis Hamilton! His 7th win here.

09 Jun 2019

This would've been an incredible fight for the win if not for the time penalty. Final lap.

09 Jun 2019

Further down, Sainz has been passed by Stroll and Kvyat, who move up to P9 and P10 respectively.

09 Jun 2019

On the bright side, Vettel at least has been voted Driver of the Day. Not too sure that'll cheer him up too much if I'm honest.

09 Jun 2019

Leclerc meanwhile has little sympathy for his team-mate and is going all out to steal P2.

09 Jun 2019

Hamilton seems pretty keen to rub salt in Ferrari's wounds and overtake Vettel outright.

09 Jun 2019

Vettel is unable to build any kind of gap. The win is Hamilton's to lose.

09 Jun 2019

Well, um, we have a good battle for P6 at least.. Hurray.

09 Jun 2019

Vettel has been given a five second time penalty. The stewards look to have quite frankly murdered any chance of an exciting finish. Vettel has 12 laps to build a gap.

09 Jun 2019

Gunther Steiner was traditionally calm with the Dane, telling him "enough is enough, get on with it". You tell him, Gunther.

09 Jun 2019

Magnussen is having an absolute ball out there! He's just reported that this is the worst experience he's ever had in a race car.

09 Jun 2019

Bottas quickly takes it away though.

09 Jun 2019

Fastest lap for Vettel - he's building the gap up again now.

09 Jun 2019

He now does the same to Ricciardo. Next up is Bottas.

09 Jun 2019

Verstappen claims the first of his victims, getting past Hulkenberg.

09 Jun 2019

Vettel under investigation for an unsafe return to track. Don't do it stewards...

09 Jun 2019

Verstappen finally pits and will have 20 laps on fresh medium tyres to chase down the Renaults and Bottas.

09 Jun 2019

Vettel goes wide! He goes off track but just about manages to get back on before Hamilton can squeeze through. Gulp.

09 Jun 2019

Vettel told to manage *something* on his car. Not sure what, but it's having an impact, as Hamilton is now within half a second.

09 Jun 2019

This is shaping up to be a titanic 28-lap battle for the win.

09 Jun 2019

Vettel responds by doing fastest lap of the race.

09 Jun 2019

Hamilton now 0.7 off the lead...

09 Jun 2019

Bottas finally gets past Ricciardo on the main straight.

09 Jun 2019

Up front, Hamilton is 1.9 seconds behind Vettel and catching.

09 Jun 2019

Leclerc breezes past Verstappen on the pit-straight.

09 Jun 2019

Isn't it great to see Ricciardo fighting the big boys again? He's currently fighting off Bottas, just about...

09 Jun 2019

Leclerc pits and comes out in P4, behind Verstappen.

09 Jun 2019

Hulkenberg, who often has the luck of a man who spends a day smashing mirrors and walking under ladders, has gearbox issues. A DNF after such good work would be gutting for him.

09 Jun 2019

Bottas has pitted for hards too and comes out between the Renaults.

09 Jun 2019

Leclerc told that he's going long on his tyres, which is, um, surprising considering he's a second slower than Vettel and Hamilton right now...

09 Jun 2019

He pits and fails to do so, slotting in back in P2 again.

09 Jun 2019

Hamilton is staying out to try and build a pit-stop sized gap to Vettel.

09 Jun 2019

He pits and goes onto the hards, coming out ahead of a train of cars.

09 Jun 2019

Vettel told to push, which surely means he'll be pitting imminently,

09 Jun 2019

Leclerc has taken another four tenths out of the gap to Hamilton, who is lapping at the same pace as Vettel. Bottas and Verstappen meanwhile continue to fight, and Pierre Gasly? Well, he's in P9, stuck behind Stroll...

09 Jun 2019

Ferrari have told Vettel and Leclerc they're both moving to Plan B. Forgive me if I'm a bit nervous whenever Ferrari discuss strategy..

09 Jun 2019

Leclerc is closing in on Hamilton ever so slightly, who just locked up. Wouldn't a Ferrari 1-2 be nice?

09 Jun 2019

Hulkenberg meanwhile came out ahead of Gasly. What a day for Renault so far.

09 Jun 2019

Hulkenberg pits, releasing Bottas. Can the Finn pull away from Verstappen?

09 Jun 2019

A classic dive down the inside from Ricciardo sends him ahead of Stroll and two places clear of Gasly.

09 Jun 2019

Vettel maintaining his gap to Hamilton, with both beginning to lap the back-markers.

09 Jun 2019

We have our first DNF, and it's Lando Norris! The Brit has terminal damage, with his right rear wheel hanging off.

09 Jun 2019

Ricciardo responds and does the same, coming out marginally ahead of the Red Bull.

09 Jun 2019

Gasly pits and goes onto the hards.

09 Jun 2019

Bottas meanwhile can't find a way past Hulkenberg, and has Verstappen catching him.

09 Jun 2019

Verstappen, on hards, uses DRS to overtake Norris on the final straight.

09 Jun 2019

The top three all have near identical pace, with Hamilton two seconds behind of Vettel and two in front of Leclerc.

09 Jun 2019

Sainz has pitted for the hards. He'll try to go to the end now.

09 Jun 2019

Vettel now building a lead and is out of DRS range.

09 Jun 2019

Albon is in the pits after first lap contact with Giovinazzi.. He now has a new wing and hard tyres.

09 Jun 2019

Elsewhere, Bottas made a bad start, losing out to Nico Hulkenberg, while Verstappen failed to move up and has been overtaken by Norris.

09 Jun 2019

And we're off! Vettel makes a great start and pulls away as Hamilton holds off Leclerc for P2.

09 Jun 2019

Hamilton still going slowly, hmm...

09 Jun 2019

They're now making their way round the track, with Hamilton making an awful getaway. How are the nerves, everyone?

09 Jun 2019

Drivers in their cars and ready to set off on their parade lap.

09 Jun 2019

Verstappen: The most important thing is to stay out of trouble in the beginning and do my own race. We'll have a different strategy so it should be exciting."

09 Jun 2019

Leclerc: "It's going to be difficult, the start is very important. Hopefully we can overtake on the straight, otherwise it'll be difficult to stay with them through the corners."

09 Jun 2019

Norris: "The car could be better - but the race pace looks reasonably good so we'll see how it goes."

09 Jun 2019

That grid has a strange look to it, doesn't it? A Renault in P4, a Mercedes in P6 and a Red Bull in P9. Oh, and Vettel in P1.

09 Jun 2019

The cars are firing up and heading to the grid as we speak. Just over 30 minutes until lights out.

09 Jun 2019

It's a scorching day in Montreal, with air temperatures of 27'C and set to rise.

09 Jun 2019

The rest of the grid is: SAI, GIO, ALB, GRO, PER, RAI, STR, RUS, KUB, MAG (pit-lane)

09 Jun 2019

Completing the top ten are Nico Hulkenberg, Lando Norris, Max Verstappen and Daniil Kvyat, who all moved up due to a penalty for Carlos Sainz.

09 Jun 2019

Behind them are Charles Leclerc and Daniel Ricciardo, who put in a stormer of a lap and benefited from mistakes from Gasly and Bottas, who are P5 and P6 respectively.

09 Jun 2019

If you somehow missed qualifying yesterday, I have some good news - the pole sitter isn't a Mercedes! Vettel pipped Hamilton on his final lap to get his first pole in a good while.

09 Jun 2019

Hello and welcome to live coverage of the Canadian Grand Prix. Just over an hour to go until lights out.

09 Jun 2019

Good morning, it is a bright and cheerful Sunday and Canadian Grand Prix day. The race takes place over 70 laps of high speeds, hard braking and hopefully plenty of action. All times are local.

08 Jun 2019

They are joined by Stroll and the two Williams cars. The order is: PER, RAI, STR, RUS, KUB

08 Jun 2019

Sainz and Hulkenberg go quicker, pushing Raikkonen and Perez into the bottom five and out of qualifying.

08 Jun 2019

Each of them does a quick lap and drags themselves out of the bottom five, pushing Hulkenberg, Sainz and Stroll down.

08 Jun 2019

Five minutes to go, with Albon, Grosjean and Raikkonen currently in the drop zone with the Williams'.

08 Jun 2019

As I say that, Hamilton goes P2, just 0.37s behind Leclerc, before Bottas goes quickest.

08 Jun 2019

Verstappen goes P3 with a 1.11.619. Could Mercedes actually be the third quickest team here?

08 Jun 2019

He quickly changes that, setting a 1.11.601 and going P2.

08 Jun 2019

Vettel meanwhile isn't as quick and finds himself behind the Red Bulls, the Mercedes' and Norris.

08 Jun 2019

Leclerc is the first of the big boys to do a lap, clocking a 1.11.786.

08 Jun 2019

Lando Norris goes top with a 1.12.407, leading Magnussen by three tenths.

08 Jun 2019

The first times are coming in, with Stroll top with a 1.13.219.

08 Jun 2019

And we have green lights, with the Williams of Kubica leading the way. Something tells me he'll be done for the day in about 15 minutes...

08 Jun 2019

The track temperature meanwhile is a scorching 45.3'C. Higher temperatures have generally suited Ferrari this weekend - will it be the same today?

08 Jun 2019

It's a warm day in Montreal, with temperatures of 19'C and no signs of rain. Ten minutes to go until green lights.

08 Jun 2019

Elsewhere, Lance Stroll has been on fire! No, not his form - he's literally been on fire following a hydraulic leak on his car. Things were better on the other side of the Racing Point garage though, with Perez at the top of the midfield in P9, behind only Ricciardo and Norris.

08 Jun 2019

Mercedes, with their new power unit, were in P3 and P4, led by Hamilton who was just under four tenths off the lead.

08 Jun 2019

FP3 earlier today provided some hope for the Ferraris, with Vettel setting the fastest time, a 1.10.843, and Leclerc 0.139s slower in P2.

08 Jun 2019

08 Jun 2019

That means that the bottom five, which include Max Verstappen, remain unchanged. The Dutchman will start in P11, ahead of Kvyat, Giovinazzi, Albon and Grosjean. They are all likely to move up a place though, as Magnussen's damage suggests he'll start from the pit-lane.

08 Jun 2019

Red Flag! Magnussen loses control at the final corner and slams into the Wall of Champions, wrecking his car and ending the session.

08 Jun 2019

Drivers at risk with five minutes to go are VER, GIO, KVY, ALB and GRO. The Dutchman will need to do a lap on those softs ASAP.

08 Jun 2019

Hamilton goes P1 with a 1.11.010.

08 Jun 2019

Gasly does a 1.11.196 to go P2 on the softs. Verstappen though, is P10 and will have to put on the softs too as the medium clearly aren't quick enough.

08 Jun 2019

Vettel and Leclerc both do 1.11.1's with the German marginally faster.

08 Jun 2019

Sainz is in P5 at the moment - he'll fancy his chances of getting on the fourth row here.

08 Jun 2019

Verstappen, on the medium tyres like Mercedes and Ferrari, goes P4.

08 Jun 2019

Bottas meanwhile locked up on his first lap but has now done another and gone into Q3.

08 Jun 2019

Vettel goes marginally faster with a 1.11.309.

08 Jun 2019

Hamilton does a 1.11.336.

08 Jun 2019

Q2 is underway, with Hamilton and Bottas the first out on the medium tyres.

08 Jun 2019

So we have a Ferrari on pole, a Renault in P4, a Mercedes in P6 and Verstappen in P11 - a rather strange qualifying session which will surely make for a great race. Join us tomorrow at 13:00 local time to find out.

08 Jun 2019

The full grid, which will most likely change due to penalties, is: VET, HAM, LEC, RIC, GAS, BOT, HUL, NOR, SAI, MAG, VER, KVY, GIO, ALB, GRO, PER, RAI, STR, RUS, KUB

08 Jun 2019

His team-mate managed P7, ahead of Norris, Sainz and Magnussen.

08 Jun 2019

Leclerc puts himself on P3, just ahead of Daniel Ricciardo! No, that's not a typo. The Aussie really got himself in P4, ahead of Gasly and Bottas. Fair play.

08 Jun 2019

Hamilton improves, but so does Vettel! The German just about does enough to get pole position with a monster of a lap!

08 Jun 2019

Bottas only goes into P5.

08 Jun 2019

Everybody out for their final laps.

08 Jun 2019

The Renault's are leading the midfield battle, with Hulkenberg P5 and Ricciardo P6. Two minutes to go now.

08 Jun 2019

Gasly improves and goes into P4, a second off the lead.

08 Jun 2019

Leclerc goes again and fails to improve. It looks like it may well be yet another Mercedes pole.

08 Jun 2019

Bottas meanwhile span but somehow avoided the wall and remains unscathed. He returns to the pits without yet setting a time.

08 Jun 2019

Leclerc briefly goes top with a 1.11.188 before Vettel does a 1.10.681 and Hamilton a 1.10.493.

08 Jun 2019

The Frenchman does a 1.12.185.

08 Jun 2019

And we have green lights at last! Pierre Gasly, the last Red Bull standing, is first out.

08 Jun 2019

A bit of a delay to the start of Q3 here as debris from the Haas of Kevin Magnussen is cleared from the track.

07 Jun 2019

That's it for FP1. Please join us in two hours for second practice for the Canadian GP. Cheers!

07 Jun 2019

The chequered flag falls on first practice in Montreal with a P1 for Hamilton, 0.147s up on Bottas, while Leclerc is third, 0.953s down.

07 Jun 2019

Just a minute to go and everyone excluding Bottas and Giovinazzi is out on track.

07 Jun 2019

Bottas is having a few issues with his Mercedes. He's reported misfiring and a loss of fuel pressure and is coasting his way around the circuit.

07 Jun 2019

Mercedes not only have the 1-2 in this session but have also been fastest in all three sectors. Sector 1 belongs to Bottas, the other two to Hamilton.

07 Jun 2019

Circuit temperature has risen from 27'C to 38'C during this session. It is still very dusty, though.

07 Jun 2019

There's quite a tussle for seventh place with Daniel Ricciardo only a tenth up on Lando Norris who is P11. At least F1's midfield delivers!

07 Jun 2019

A spin for Vettel at the hairpin. He locked up on the dusty part of the track and lost it.

07 Jun 2019

It is a Williams 19 and 20 at the moment with Russell ahead of Latifi. Deputy team boss Claire Williams stated earlier today that she saw the Monaco GP, in which Williams did not finish stone last, as progress. Guess that was short lived then.

07 Jun 2019

Leclerc is up to third place on the medium tyres but he's 0.953s down on Hamilton's best. Vettel moves up to fifth place.

07 Jun 2019

Grosjean and Stroll have a moment with the Haas driver not overly impressed with the Canadian's driving.

07 Jun 2019

And we do!

07 Jun 2019

Giovinazzi's car is cleared by the marshals so we should go green shortly.

07 Jun 2019

The VSC is out for Giovinazzi who "touched a wall".

07 Jun 2019

A flurry of mistakes as Vettel has a moment at Turn 1, Gasly "lost the rear completely on braking" and Antonio Giovinazzi has smacked the wall. His Alfa Romeo has a puncture and a broken wing.

07 Jun 2019

Ferrari, Red Bull, Mercedes and Toro Rosso have all taken new engine parts this weekend as confirmed by the FIA.

07 Jun 2019

Grosjean's Haas has left the pits with, well part of the pits! His front right tyre has a massive white mark on it which is from the floor paint in the Haas garage.

07 Jun 2019

A bit of work going on over at Red Bull with set-up changes, and a new floor, going onto Verstappen's RB15.

07 Jun 2019

With that Gasly breaks the silence as he leaves the pits on a fresh set of medium tyres. Grosjean follows his countryman out.

07 Jun 2019

A whole lot of nothing taking place on the track at the moment, not even a groundhog in sight.

07 Jun 2019

So it is Bottas ahead of Hamilton, a second ahead of Verstappen. It must be noted, though, that Mercedes are running the softest of the soft tyres. Verstappen was on the mediums.

07 Jun 2019

As always we have a few months of silence around the 40-minute mark in the session as the drivers return to the pits to hand their first set of tyres back to Pirelli.

07 Jun 2019

Hamilton, chasing his seventh Canadian Grand Prix win this weekend, takes over at the top with a 1:13.148. Bottas came back at him with a 1:13.001.

07 Jun 2019

Gasly is the next to get it wrong, out-brakes himself and cuts the grass.

07 Jun 2019

Another hot one from Bottas, a 1:13.229.

07 Jun 2019

Bottas is down to a 1:13.495 with Leclerc, the best placed Ferrari, 1.7s down. Hamilton jumps up to second place - his time, though, is the exact same as Bottas'! Exact!

07 Jun 2019

19 of the 20 drivers have set a time, we're just waiting for Pierre Gasly in the other Red Bull.

07 Jun 2019

And we have our first spin thanks to Romain Grosjean, who lost the back end of his Haas at Turn 6.

07 Jun 2019

A 1:14.6 for Verstappen but even that is short-lived as here comes Bottas and he is on a hot one. A 1:14.160 for the Mercedes driver who got a great tow from Vettel down the final straight.

07 Jun 2019

Verstappen is flying... he goes purple in all three sectors on his way to a 1:15.0.

07 Jun 2019

2018 winner Vettel joins the party with his team-mate Charles Leclerc following him out of the pits. It is getting busy out there.

07 Jun 2019

Sainz hits the front with a 1:16.9 with Magnussen taking second place... make that third as here comes Verstappen and it is a 1:15.9 for the Red Bull racer.

07 Jun 2019

And finally Latifi has company as Carlos Sainz and Kevin Magnussen take to the track.

07 Jun 2019

Latifi lowers the benchmark to a 1:19.3.

07 Jun 2019

Latifi stays out to set the first time of FP1, a 1:21.6.

07 Jun 2019

The reserve driver has a close encounter with a groundhog at Turn 6 but thankfully avoids it.

07 Jun 2019

Latifi heads out for his grand prix debut, although grand prix weekend debut is probably a better way to put it. Rumours that he will be taking Kubica's race seat on a permanent basis have gone quiet in recent weeks.

07 Jun 2019

Everyone but Hamilton, Bottas, Verstappen, Nico Hulkenberg and Latifi has been out.

07 Jun 2019

Installation laps continue as the drivers do one run of the circuit to check everything is OK with the car and then head back to the pits. Given that this track is partially made up of public roads, many of the drivers will be waiting for others to clean the track before doing a proper run.

07 Jun 2019

George Russell is off to uncomfortable start as he reports that his "belt" is not properly situated. He's back in the pits to have sorted. He's joined by Nicholas Latifi in this session as the Montreal native is in action for Williams.

07 Jun 2019

Green light and off we go in Montreal...

07 Jun 2019

Five minutes to the start of FP1, a FP1 that will be taking place without the Rich Energy stag on the Haas VF19, and the track temperature is 27'C with the air temp just 17'C.

07 Jun 2019

There's one local lad for the Canadian fans to support this weekend, Lance Stroll. He has a mixed record at home, in the points in 2017 and the cause of the big crash (which also took out Brendon Hartley) in 2018. What will 2019 bring? Who knows with the Racing Point driver.

07 Jun 2019

Oh, and if you missed the news... Mercedes will be introducing an updated power unit this weekend so more performance - and pace - for the runaway championship leaders.

07 Jun 2019

Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull are likely to battle for top honours as the latter two teams look to end Mercedes' run of six wins this season. With four wins on the board, Hamilton is leading the title race on 137 points, 17 ahead of Bottas while Vettel has 82. In the Constructors', Mercedes are 118 ahead of Ferrari. Yes, you read the right, 118!

07 Jun 2019

Despite his impressive, to say the least, record at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, many are predicting Ferrari to come to the fore this weekend given the track's long straights and few slow corners. Sebastian Vettel won last year ahead of Valtteri Bottas and Max Verstappen.

07 Jun 2019

Lewis Hamilton arrived in Montreal this weekend seeking to match Michael Schumacher's tally of seven Canadian GP wins - yip, SEVEN! The Brit won in 2007, 2010, 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

07 Jun 2019

Welcome to Montreal's Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the start of the Canadian Grand Prix weekend. As per usual we kick off on Friday with the 90-minute FP1 session followed by FP2. All times are local.

07 Jun 2019

Let's hope a four-way battle for pole is on its way tomorrow. But before that there is the small matter of FP3 to complete. Join us for that at 16:00 local time.

07 Jun 2019

There we have it, end of session. The full order for you: P1 Leclerc, P2 Vettel, P3 Bottas, P4 Sainz, P5 Magnussen, P6 Hamilton, P7 Perez, P8 Ricciardo, P9 Hulkenberg, P10 Stroll, P11 Norris, P12 Gasly, P13 Verstappen, P14 Albon, P15 Kvyat, P16 Raikkonen, P17 Grosjean, P18 Giovinazzi, P19 Russell and P20 Kubica.

07 Jun 2019

Some bits come flying off Bottas' car on the back straight. It has been a quick but scruffy Friday for the Silver Arrows.

07 Jun 2019

Here's the top ten with seven minutes to go in FP2: P1 Leclerc, P2 Vettel, P3 Bottas, P4 Sainz, P5 Magnussen, P6 Hamilton, P7 Perez, P8 Ricciardo, P9 Hulkenberg and P10 Stroll.

07 Jun 2019

Gasly in P12, Verstappen P13, Red Bull still aren't showing their hand.

07 Jun 2019

The rear tyres appear to be overheating fast for most of the drivers out there as they look to gather some data for race day.

07 Jun 2019

Teams getting into the long runs now.

07 Jun 2019

Sainz in P4 just under 0.4s down on pace-setter Leclerc. What an effort from the McLaren man.

07 Jun 2019

The rear end of the W10 has been taken off so that's it for Hamilton in FP2. Luckily it wasn't the race gearbox fitted so he should escape any penalties.

07 Jun 2019

Verstappen is out on the softs, but as he closes in on team-mate Pierre Gasly he hits the Wall of Champions - no damage it seems to the RB15, but Pirelli's advertising boards are history.

07 Jun 2019

We may not be seeing Hamilton again in this session!

07 Jun 2019

Phew, the gap is smaller than it seemed - Vettel goes 0.06s clear of Bottas to move into P1 as Leclerc goes P3 just a tenth off the pace.

07 Jun 2019

Bottas has moved on to the softs and sets a 1:12.311 - a 0.7s improvement.

07 Jun 2019

The champ heads out the back of the garage, it seems there is more harm done than a puncture.

07 Jun 2019

Hamilton clips the curb coming out of the chicane and hits the wall, he's limped back to the pit lane, the right rear is wobbling but it's unclear if there is further damage to the W10.

07 Jun 2019

Verstappen is P7 at the moment behind Nico Hulkenberg in the Renault and Sainz.

07 Jun 2019

Hamilton makes light work of that on the same medium rubber. A 1:12.938. Bottas goes just three tenths shy on the hards, now there's a time from the Finn.

07 Jun 2019

Charles Leclerc pumps in a 1:14.009 on the mediums to go two hundredths quicker than team-mate Vettel at the top.

07 Jun 2019

Alex Albon goes 0.015s shy on the mediums but it was a scruffy lap including an off for the Toro Rosso man.

07 Jun 2019

Carlos Sainz smashes that time on the hard compound with a 1:16.303 in the McLaren.

07 Jun 2019

Kubica sets the first time - a 1:21.712 on the mediums.

07 Jun 2019

The green light goes on, FP2 is underway - groundhogs beware!

07 Jun 2019

Nicholas Latifi had a good session for Williams in his home event. He was just two tenths shy of George Russell, but 2008 Canadian GP winner Robert Kubica will take the FW42's wheel again in FP2.

07 Jun 2019

Kimi Raikkonen topped the midfield pack in FP1 with P6 - pretty much matching his team-mate from last season Sebastian Vettel's best time. The pack was tight in general, so the drivers will probably spread out in this session as they step it up.

07 Jun 2019

However, Ferrari likely have more performance to come when they put those softs and engine modes through their paces, Max Verstappen looks rather handy too.

07 Jun 2019

Mercedes were dominant in the opening practice session with Lewis Hamilton leading Valtteri Bottas as the Silver Arrows pair went almost a second clear of the field, though a late fuel-pressure issue for Bottas ruined a near-perfect session.

07 Jun 2019

Welcome to coverage of FP2 at the Canadian Grand Prix. All times are local.

08 Jun 2019

That's it for now, join us in two hours for qualifying for the Monaco GP. Cheers!

08 Jun 2019

Vettel ends P1 ahead of Leclerc and Hamilton. And there's a brief moment for Bottas as Mercedes have dropped his car off the jack in the pit box. Here's hoping there's no damage to his W10.

08 Jun 2019

The chequered flag is out on FP3...

08 Jun 2019

Good news for Williams, they aren't at the very bottom of the timesheets. Bad news for Williams, that's only because Stroll hasn't - and won't - set a time.

08 Jun 2019

Ricciardo has moved up the timesheets, taking seventh place ahead of Norris, Perez and Kvyat.

08 Jun 2019

Vettel, on his third hot lap on the soft tyres, has clocked a 1:10.843!

08 Jun 2019

Leclerc lays down a 1:10.982!

08 Jun 2019

Hamilton's time puts him up into second place, 0.178s down on Leclerc.

08 Jun 2019

Vettel goes top by 0.053s but is pipped by Leclerc with a 1:11.058. That is 0.420s faster than his team-mate!

08 Jun 2019

Qualy sims have begun with a P1 for Bottas, but he is only 0.026s up on Vettel. Ferrari are the next out...

08 Jun 2019

The mandatory groundhog sighting that comes at every Canadian GP session has made its appearance in front of Raikkonen. "OK there is an animal running around before Turn 6 ... I don't know what they're called!" he told Alfa Romeo.

08 Jun 2019

Magnussen has tapped the wall, so gently that he continues on his way without any troubles.

08 Jun 2019

Norris is under investigation. Looks like the rookie driver did not return to the track on the correct side of the bollard. The stewards will look at it after FP3.

08 Jun 2019

Norris is back in the pits asking McLaren to check his MCL34 after a rather violent ride over the sausage kerbs. He is currently P9.

08 Jun 2019

It looks as if Leclerc's earlier flat spot may have been paint from the garage floor as, like Grosjean from Friday, he has a chunk missing out of his garage.

08 Jun 2019

Mercedes have lined up behind the Ferrari drivers with Hamilton ahead of Bottas. They are both half a second down. Verstappen is fifth.

08 Jun 2019

That flat spot isn't bothering Leclerc as he hits the front with a 1:11.596.

08 Jun 2019

Stroll has had the first notable incident of the session as the SportPesa Racing Point driver comes to a halt in the pit lane with a "hydraulic leak". It was clearly dripping onto something hot as there is a lot of smoke involved.

08 Jun 2019

Leclerc is out on a set of soft tyres but it looks as if the front right has a minor flat spot. And he's only on his first hot lap! Another lock up from the Monaco driver so yip, flat spot.

08 Jun 2019

Gasly hits the front with his soft tyres, a 1:14.2, Magnussen is second and Kubica third.

08 Jun 2019

An engine is fired up, it belongs to Magnussen, and he leaves the pits in his stag-less Haas. The usual start practice at the end of the pit lane and he is out on a set of soft tyres. Oh, there's more as Gasly joins the action ahead of Raikkonen and Kvyat.

08 Jun 2019

Silence is golden, golden... la, la, la, la la!

08 Jun 2019

Kubica has pitted after six laps and there is once again silence out on track. Good time for the groundhogs to practice their 'why did the groundhog cross the road?' moments.

08 Jun 2019

There may not be a whole lot of running in the first 20 minutes of this session with Renault revealing they will wait at least 20 minutes in order to get other drivers to clear any dust that may have settled on the track.

08 Jun 2019

Kubica lowers the benchmark to a 1:16.7. He is lapping on the soft Pirellis.

08 Jun 2019

Kubica continues to lap the circuit alone as Hamilton makes a late arrival to the Mercedes garage.

08 Jun 2019

2008 Canadian GP winner Kubica is out in his Williams as he gets straight down to work. The Polish driver posts a 1:17.7, which is some way off his Friday time.

08 Jun 2019

The pit lane is green lighted, and FP3 is underway in Montreal with Norris the first man out ahead of Magnussen.

08 Jun 2019

With five minutes to go the track temperature is up to 36'C, the same temperature it was at the end of FP1. A lot of the dust that the drivers had to contend with on Friday has been rubbed away by F1 and the support events so there will definitely be improved grip this session.

08 Jun 2019

The day's other incident of note belonged to Antonio Giovinazzi. The Alfa Romeo rookie crashed into FP1 with the car suffering a puncture, a broken wing and brought out the VSC as he stopped it partially on the track. As such he sat out a large chunk of second practice as the team repaired the car and managed just 33 laps the whole day.

08 Jun 2019

The session's other crash, minor that it was, belonged to Verstappen who kissed the Wall of Champions. In a moment for Red Bull, Verstappen behind his team-mate Gasly on the track. Closing in on the Frenchman as he exited the chicane, the downforce was taken off Verstappen's RB15 causing him to slide into the Wall of Champions. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko wasn't too impressed with Gasly. "He was indirectly responsible for Verstappen kissing the wall," the Dutch media reports Marko as having told Sky Sports. "Either he has to accelerate and disappear, or he has to let Max pass at the chicane. We told him the exact distance with the other car."

08 Jun 2019

The bottom half, of which the Williams team-mates were once again the two slowest. 11 Lando Norris McLaren 1.072s 35; 12 Pierre Gasly Red Bull 1.168s 36; 13 Max Verstappen Red Bull 1.211s 20; 14 Alex Albon Toro Rosso 1.259s 44; 15 Daniil Kvyat Toro Rosso 1.344s 38; 16 Kimi Raikkonen Alfa Romeo Racing 1.365s 38; 17 Romain Grosjean Haas 1.421s 38; 18 Antonio Giovinazzi Alfa Romeo Racing 2.693s 16; 19 George Russell Williams 2.859s 35; 20 Robert Kubica Williams 3.110s 42.

08 Jun 2019

The top ten from FP2: 1 Charles Leclerc Ferrari 1:12.177 37; 2 Sebastian Vettel Ferrari 0.074s 36; 3 Valtteri Bottas Mercedes 0.134s 44; 4 Carlos Sainz McLaren 0.376s 43; 5 Kevin Magnussen Haas 0.758s 41; 6 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes 0.761s 8; 7 Sergio Perez Racing Point 0.826s 38; 8 Daniel Ricciardo Renault 0.839s 38; 9 Nico Hulkenberg Renault 0.991s 39; 10 Lance Stroll Racing Point 0.994s 35.

08 Jun 2019

Friday's action saw Ferrari finally come to the fore - Charles Leclerc 0.074s faster than Sebastian Vettel - as many predicted they would given the track's long straights and few slow corners. However, one could argue that they benefitted from Lewis Hamilton's FP2 crash. He whacked the wall at Turn 8, puncturing a tyre and damaging the floor of his W10. The car also required a new gearbox but there is no penalty for that as Mercedes were - like many of their rivals - running old gearboxes in Friday practice.

08 Jun 2019

Welcome back to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for Saturday's third and final practice hour for the Canadian GP. All times are local.
