26 May 2019

Well, the pole sitter won and there wasn't any rain. Still, Verstappen at least gave us something to watch, while Vettel managed to end the 1-2 run of Mercedes. Oh, and Kubica wasn't last! Next up is the French Grand Prix in two weeks time. Join us then.

26 May 2019

Daniel Ricciardo moves up to P9 due to a time penalty for Grosjean who nevertheless takes home a point he'll be happy with after starting P13.

26 May 2019

Pierre Gasly gets P5 and fastest lap, while Sainz takes an excellent P6. Toro Rosso have an equally excellent day, with Kvyat P7 and Albon P8.

26 May 2019

Therefore, Vettel moves up to P2 (No Mercedes 1-2!!) and Bottas P3.

26 May 2019

Hamilton wins the Monaco Grand Prix! Verstappen finishes inches behind but will drop down to P4 due to his penalty.

26 May 2019

Final lap now, and the stewards are looking at the incident between the two leaders.

26 May 2019

Verstappen goes for it at the chicane and the two touch! Both miss it and it's business as usual. Good effort, Max.

26 May 2019

Five laps to go here, and it looks like Hamilton is going to crawl to the win. If only the streets here were a few inches wider...

26 May 2019

Verstappen makes a mistake and loses time to Hamilton.

26 May 2019

Verstappen makes his first attempt, but Hamilton sees it off comfortably.

26 May 2019

Verstappen has been given more power for the rest of the race, which Hamilton is thrilled about.

26 May 2019

Leclerc is currently in third in the Driver of the Day vote. Us F1 fans are quite the comedians, aren't we?

26 May 2019

Pierre Gasly pits, doesn't lose a place and will now go for that extra fastest lap point.

26 May 2019

The Verstappen of old would try an overtake and retire them both. What will the new and improved version do?

26 May 2019

Latest whinge from Hamilton: "I don't know what you're thinking, we need to hope for a miracle". Ricciardo won here last year with an issue that slowed him down by two seconds per lap, Lewis. Just saying.

26 May 2019

Hamilton complaining more than ever, saying he can't stay out and keep Verstappen behind.

26 May 2019

Grosjean finally pits and comes out in P9.

26 May 2019

Hamilton tells his team he's in big trouble, but they tell him they're not boxing him yet.

26 May 2019

The top three get through but Bottas is held up by Lance Stroll and loses a lot of time.

26 May 2019

The leaders are now approaching the huge train that runs from P11 to P16.

26 May 2019

His team-mate is not fairing as well. He has just cut the chicane to hold off Perez and will have to give the Mexican the position.

26 May 2019

Romain Grosjean has now done 45 laps on the soft tyre and is still in P5. Gunther will be a happy man.

26 May 2019

Vettel has overheating issues with his car, which explains why he's choosing to maintain a gap to Verstappen and Hamilton up ahead.

26 May 2019

Hamilton continues to complain about his tyres, but his team tell him they're confident he's on the right strategy.

26 May 2019

Albon pits from P5 and comes out in P9.

26 May 2019

Gasly is now catching the top four by over a second per lap and on fresher tyres.

26 May 2019

Verstappen's tyres don't look great anymore following his attack on Hamilton. Vettel meanwhile is managing his much better and is surely the favourite for the win now.

26 May 2019

Albon and Grosjean, in P5 and P6, now the only two in the top ten yet to pit.

26 May 2019

The safety car has worked out badly for Ricciardo and Magnussen, who have lost out to Sainz and Kvyat in the midfield battle.

26 May 2019

Verstappen is forcing Hamilton to speed up and damage his tyres a lot more than he'd like to. Unless there's a lot of rain, the Championship leader will have to pit again.

26 May 2019

Vettel is dropping back from the front two. Is it a lack of pace or race management?

26 May 2019

Carlos Sainz, currently in P5 due to not pitting, has just reported he can feel rain.

26 May 2019

Pierre Gasly takes his first stop and goes onto the medium compound. He comes out P9.

26 May 2019

With his time penalty, Verstappen will be desperate to pass the Brit and isn't far off.

26 May 2019

Hamilton hugely holding up the field now, lapping at the same pace as Kubica. No, really.

26 May 2019

The risk of rain is dropping more and more, but there may be spots of it in five minutes.

26 May 2019

Verstappen has a five-second time penalty for an unsafe release. It's not ideal, but far better than a drive through.

26 May 2019

Hamilton is just 0.7s ahead of Verstappen and having to manage his tyres.

26 May 2019

The field is far closer together now than it was prior to the safety car.

26 May 2019

Charles Leclerc has retired from the race. A horrendous day for him.

26 May 2019

So, Verstappen is likely to get a drive-through penalty and Hamilton may well have to pit again. If both happen, Vettel would have the lead of the race and potentially the win.

26 May 2019

Giovinazzi goes for a move on Kubica and spins the Pole who then blocks the track, causing a bit of a car park situation. All are off again now.

26 May 2019

Hamilton pulls away immediately. Worth noting that he's the only one of the top four on the faster medium tyre.

26 May 2019

Safety car coming in.

26 May 2019

Replays show that Verstappen and Bottas touched, and the former may well be in trouble for an unsafe release. Bottas meanwhile has pitted again onto the hard compound tyre and comes out P4.

26 May 2019

Verstappen comes out of the pits ahead of Bottas and into P2! That could be huge.

26 May 2019

And we have a safety car! The debris from Leclerc causes it, and the leaders all come in.

26 May 2019

He makes it back to the pits but is now rock bottom with a damaged car, a lap down on everyone. You'd think that's his race done.

26 May 2019

He goes for a move on Hulkenberg and loses out, badly, hitting the barrier and getting a puncture. He's now down in P19 with his tyre shredding all over the track.

26 May 2019

Leclerc gets past at Rascasse! He's currently stuck in a queue created by Ricciardo but is making his way through it.

26 May 2019

Leclerc getting rather impatient behind Grosjean. He's tried a few lunges but to no success yet.

26 May 2019

Bottas is currently the fastest man on track, sticking tight to the back of Hamilton.

26 May 2019

The stewards have judged that he didn't gain an advantage, so will not investigate.

26 May 2019

Leclerc has made up two places already, but may be in trouble for cutting the corner at the start.

26 May 2019

Further back, Raikkonen and Norris have made contact, but both seem okay.

26 May 2019

And we're off! Verstappen has a look at Bottas who blocks him off, while Ricciardo gets Magnussen and moves into P5.

26 May 2019

The formation lap is underway.

26 May 2019

Hamilton warned on the radio that they expect to have to go onto intermediate tyres at some point...

26 May 2019

Reports that there's a 90% chance of rain during the race. Yes please.

26 May 2019

Sainz: "We want to keep up our form in the race. Normally our race pace is better than qualifying but obviously, it's hard to move up here.

26 May 2019

Verstappen: "It's hard to overtake here, but we'll try to upset the Mercedes and give it our very best."

26 May 2019

The national anthem is now playing. Fifteen minutes until lights out.

26 May 2019

An impeccably observed minutes silence by everybody on the grid. RIP Niki.

26 May 2019

The drivers are all making their way to the front for a minutes silence to Niki Lauda prior to the national anthem.

26 May 2019

Leclerc placing his car that far back on the grid is a disappointing sight. The Monegasque would've been desperate for a strong result at his home Grand Prix, but his chances were scuppered by a vintage Ferrari strategy mishap.

26 May 2019

The cars are firing up and heading to the grid.

26 May 2019

The drivers are all wearing red baseball caps with the word "Niki" on, and fans have been encouraged to bring their own to doff at the end of the race. A fitting tribute.

26 May 2019

It's sunny right now on the streets of Monte Carlo, but there are clouds on the horizon, and perhaps (hopefully) rain with them.

26 May 2019

The remainder of the grid is: HUL, NOR, GRO, RAI, LEC, PER, STR, GIO, RUS, KUB

26 May 2019

The rest of the top 10 is made up of past and present Toro Rosso drivers. Kvyat starts in P7 ahead of the penalised Gasly, with the Renault of Carlos Sainz and Kvyat's team-mate Albon on the fifth row.

26 May 2019

Due to Gasly's penalty for obstructing Grosjean in Q3, the latter's team-mate benefits. Kevin Magnussen starts P5, ahead of last year's winner and Monaco specialist, Daniel Ricciardo.

26 May 2019

In the all-important qualifying yesterday, Hamilton beat his team-mate Bottas to pole position, with Verstappen starting P3 and Vettel completing the second row of the grid.

26 May 2019

Hello and thank you for joining us for the build-up to the Monaco Grand Prix, which gets underway in just over an hour.

26 May 2019

Good morning and welcome back to Monte Carlo. Today is the Monaco Grand Prix, 78 laps of breath-taking speed on a tight, twisty circuit, 78 laps of near misses with the barriers, 78 laps to see who will be the new king of Monaco. Build up for the race begins at 2:00pm and all times are local.

25 May 2019

Absolutely baffling that Leclerc wasn't sent out to do another lap. he's joined in the drop zone by Perez, Stroll, Russel and Kubica.

25 May 2019

Vettel goes fastest, sending Charles Leclerc into P16 and out of qualifying! Oh Ferrari, you really are quite something...

25 May 2019

Leclerc is in trouble too. He's not doing another lap and is currently P13.

25 May 2019

Perez gets himself out of the bottom five, sending Vettel into the drop zone. The German is out on track...

25 May 2019

Vettel hits the barrier and promptly returns to the pits. His time isn't great, so he'll need to go out again or he could be in trouble.

25 May 2019

Leclerc has just missed the weighbridge and quickly been pushed back by his team. As long as no work was done on his car, he should be okay.

25 May 2019

Bottas goes P1 with a 1.11.562.

25 May 2019

The Williams' and the Racing Points look set to be knocked out, with that final knockout spot up for grabs.

25 May 2019

Giovinazzi is under investigation for impeding Hulkenberg. I'd be surprised if he gets away without a penalty.

25 May 2019

Bottas does a 1.11.725 to go P2.

25 May 2019

Hamilton and Leclerc trail him in the low 1.12s.

25 May 2019

Verstappen goes fastest with a 1.11.725.

25 May 2019

Here we go then, green lights for the most important Saturday on the Formula 1 calendar!

25 May 2019

The air and track temperatures are much higher than they have been thus far in the practice sessions - could that play into the hands of Ferrari?

25 May 2019

McLaren and Racing Point meanwhile, don't have much to be cheerful about judging by the practice sessions alone. Still, at least they're not Williams.

25 May 2019

Elsewhere, Toro Rosso and Alfa Romeo are looking like the best of the rest, locking out each position from P6 to P9. Renault and Haas aren't far behind, though.

25 May 2019

His team-mate didn't enjoy such good fortune though. Early in the session, Vettel locked up at turn one and crashed into the barriers, retiring him from the session. His car will be ready for qualifying though.

25 May 2019

It was an interesting FP3 earlier today, with just 0.274s separating the top four who were, somewhat surprisingly, led by Charles Leclerc.

25 May 2019

Albon improves and goes into P6.

25 May 2019

Hulkenberg goes P9 and pushes Albon into the drop zone.

25 May 2019

Q2 is underway, and the Mercedes cars are the first out.

25 May 2019

Join us at around 14:00 local time tomorrow for the build-up to the Monaco Grand Prix, which starts at 15:10. The thought of two Mercedes' starting 1-2 at a track where overtaking is near impossible may not sound appealing, but as Toto Wolff just said, rain is more than likely...

25 May 2019

The full grid, prior to penalties (feeling nervous Gasly?), is: HAM, BOT, VER, VET, GAS, MAG, RIC, KVY, SAI, ALB, HUL, NOR, GRO, RAI, GIO, LEC, PER, STR, RUS, KUB.

25 May 2019

The Brit is visibly emotional as he gets out of the car. He'll start P1 tomorrow, with Bottas P2 and Verstappen P3.

25 May 2019

Bottas and Verstappen fail to improve, meaning that Hamilton takes pole position!

25 May 2019

He was on a good lap but hit the barrier and lost time. Hamilton meanwhile goes quickest, just 0.86 faster than Bottas.

25 May 2019

Vettel is the first car to go back out for his final laps. Can he get onto the front row?

25 May 2019

That's the first runs done. Bottas is P1 while Vettel splits the Red Bulls and Magnussen leads the midfield.

25 May 2019

He does a 1.10.483, just faster than Verstappen but way off Bottas.

25 May 2019

Hamilton has made a mess of his first flying lap and will go again before he pits.

25 May 2019

Vettel is seven tenths slower, and Verstappen is just under four tenths slower.

25 May 2019

Bottas does a 1.10.252. Not a bad start...

25 May 2019

Here we go then, Q3 is underway.

23 May 2019

FP2 gets underway at 15:00 local time, with our coverage beginning half an hour prior to the start. Join us then.

23 May 2019

And that brings an end to the session. The top ten are: HAM, VER, BOT, LEC, VET, GAS, HUL, MAG, RAI, GRO.

23 May 2019

Grosjean has joined his team-mate in the top 10 now.

23 May 2019

Magnussen has gone into P8, just behind the Renault of Nico Hulkenberg. Two minutes to go in FP1.

23 May 2019

Renault and Alfa Romeo are currently the best of the race, completing the top 10 with the big three teams, but it's worth noting that Haas are now out on track again following their earlier black flags.

23 May 2019

The Dutchman has now done a 1.12.165 to go just 0.59 behind Hamilton and into P2. Who needs reverse gear anyway?

23 May 2019

Verstappen has just gone off into the escape road and lost reverse hear. Thankfully, stewards were there to offer a helping hand and push him back to the track.

23 May 2019

Lando Norris locks up and goes into the run-off area at turn 1, but comes out unscathed. Remarkably, Robert Kubica also managed to avoid damage a few minutes ago after spinning. Usually, spinning here is pretty fatal...

23 May 2019

Half an hour to go now, with Mercedes P1 and P2, Ferrari P3 and P4, and Red Bull P5 and P7, split by Giovinazzi (?!)

23 May 2019

Sainz has returned to the pits and got out of the car, having not set a time. It's a PU issue, according to Zak Brown.

23 May 2019

Bottas then does a 1.12.248. These are some rather quick times for FP1...

23 May 2019

As I say that, Hamilton goes fastest with a 1.12.422. What a killjoy.

23 May 2019

The Ferraris have put in some decent laps, with Vettel 0.034 and Leclerc 0.050 off the current leader Bottas.

23 May 2019

Quite rightfully, there are various tributes to the late Niki Lauda throughout the paddock today. Mercedes have a red star on their livery and a thank you message on their front wing, while Sebastian Vettel has a helmet dedicated to the triple World Champion.

23 May 2019

Carlos Sainz is the only driver yet to set a time.

23 May 2019

Raikkonen not too pleased with a Racing Point holding him up, and was typically entertaining on the team radio when expressing his displeasure.

23 May 2019

The reason for Haas' black flags were radio and telemetry issues.

23 May 2019

Back on track meanwhile, the Mercedes boys continue to lead the way, with Hamilton first on a 1.13.624 and Bottas just 0.082 behind. Both are running the soft tyre.

23 May 2019

Both of the Haas cars have just been black flagged - there must be something of the illegal sort on their car...

23 May 2019

The first yellow flags of the weekend are waved as Vettel goes off into the run-off area in sector 1. He's currently in P5.

23 May 2019

Bottas goes quickest with a 1.15.489, with Hamilton P2. We should probably get used to that silver front row...

23 May 2019

Our first time of the day is set by George Russell who does a 1.21.736.

23 May 2019

And we're off, with Giovinazzi and the McLaren's the first to take to track.

23 May 2019

It's a cloudy day here in Monte Carlo for FP1, with temperatures of 18'C. We'll have green lights in a few minutes...

23 May 2019

They'll have two competitors in Haas and Alfa Romeo though, that will be carrying Spec 2 Ferrari engines. Haas have been strong in qualifying all season, and with grid position so important here, they may well be favourites to be the best of the rest.

23 May 2019

Going into the midfield, Renault may not have the car, but they have the driver to get a strong result. Daniel Ricciardo has one win here, and should have two - he'll see this as a big opportunity for him to turn his and his team's season around.

23 May 2019

Ferrari meanwhile, started the season as favourites but go into just the sixth race as the third most fancied team. This highlights their hugely disappointing start. Can they turn things around here? Unless a new car has shown up, it'll be difficult.

23 May 2019

Nevertheless, Red Bull will surely give them a run for their money. The high downforce, low-speed tracks suits them perfectly, but if they are to fight for the win, Max Verstappen will have to greatly improve on his previous form here.

23 May 2019

Mercedes have struggled here for the last couple of years, but this season's car is a different animal. Red Bull may always be strong here, but the German outfit are undoubtedly the favourites.

23 May 2019

Hello and welcome to live coverage of the first practice session of the Monaco Grand Prix! As stated below, all times are local.

23 May 2019

Formula 1 is remembering Niki Lauda this weekend after the triple World Champion passed away on Monday. Lauda staged probably the greatest comeback that sport has ever witnessed when he survived a 1976 German GP fiery crashed, missed just two races and came back - despite his injuries - to finish runner-up in the championship, missing out by a single point. He will be sorely missed by all in the paddock.

23 May 2019

Good morning and welcome to Monte Carlo, home of the rich, the famous, the tax dodgers and the Monaco Grand Prix. FP1 begins at 11am with build-up from 10:30. All times are local.

23 May 2019

And that brings an end to FP2, and Thursday (NOT FRIDAY) running. Join us at 11:30 local time on Saturday (NOT TOMORROW) for coverage of FP3 and the all-important qualifying. See you there.

23 May 2019

The chequered flags come down on the session, with the top ten as follows: HAM, BOT, VET, GAS, ALB, VER, MAG, GIO, RAI, LEC.

23 May 2019

It doesn't look like he'll do so, as he's complaining on the radio about the lack of grip the car has.

23 May 2019

Verstappen is back out on track and will be looking to be the only driver to get anywhere near the Mercs. Ten minutes to go.

23 May 2019

You know that Aussie that's good here? Like really good? Like best on the grid? He's currently P17. Come on Renault, help him out...

23 May 2019

Vettel has just locked up going into turn 1, missed the runoff area and somehow managed to stop the car before it goes hurtling into the barriers. Good to see that the Ferrari brakes are working well at least.

23 May 2019

So, eh, anyone putting any money on a non-Mercedes pole sitter? No? Didn't think so.

23 May 2019

Half an hour to go now - The Mercedes' have a rather sizeable lead at the front, fun times...

23 May 2019

Max Verstappen is in the pits and out of his car which apparently has a water leak.

23 May 2019

Bottas has just locked up at the chicane, lost the rear end and gone inches from slamming into the barriers. Remarkably, nobody has had a severe collision yet.

23 May 2019

Both Mercedes cars are now in the 1.11.2s, 0.6 seconds clear of Vettel.

23 May 2019

A mention for Alex Albon, who is currently sat in P4, ahead of both Red Bulls. Not bad, eh?

23 May 2019

He does just that with a 1.11.597.

23 May 2019

Bottas has gone back out on the soft tyres. Expect him to go to the top of the standings imminently.

23 May 2019

Currently just over a tenth separating the top four. Come on Leclerc and Gasly, get in on the fun.

23 May 2019

Vettel has just gone fastest with a 1.11.881! It's fair to say that came out of nowhere...

23 May 2019

Mercedes are P1 and P2, with nothing to choose between them. Hamilton's on a 1.11.926 on the medium tyre, and Bottas is 0.033 behind.

23 May 2019

Verstappen has just clipped the wall. Thankfully, it gets away with it, but that was inches away from being a repeat of his previous Monaco antics.

23 May 2019

Bottas goes P1 with a 1.12.708, and Vettel is close behind.

23 May 2019

Every car has now set a lap time asides from the Mercedes', the Red Bulls and George Russell. Albon is fastest, ahead of Leclerc and Vettel.

23 May 2019

Five minutes in, Givonazzi is fastest with a 1.13.794.

23 May 2019

Green lights, with the two McLarens leading the way.

23 May 2019

Conditions are largely the same since this morning - mild and cloudy. Good for those on track, not so good for those in their yachts who were hoping to take a dip in the harbour. It's a hard life...

23 May 2019

For the first practice session this season, Williams weren't slowest! That title went to the Racing Point of Lance Stroll, although in all fairness he was running the hardest, and slowest, tyre all session.

23 May 2019

The rest of the top ten was made up of Gasly, Hulkenberg, both Haas', who put in late quick laps following earlier black flags, and Kimi Raikkonen.

23 May 2019

The Ferraris however, have some catching up to do. Leclerc finished 0.361 seconds slower than Hamilton, while Vettel was over seven tenths slower.

23 May 2019

There was nothing to choose between the top three in FP1, with Hamilton less a tenth faster than Verstappen and Bottas who were P2 and P3 respectively.

23 May 2019

Hello and welcome back to the mean streets of Monte Carlo for second practice ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix. It's still Thursday and all times are local.

25 May 2019

The business end of the weekend begins with qualifying in two hours. Our coverage will kick off half an hour earlier, join us then.

25 May 2019

That's that for FP3, with Charles Leclerc topping the session - who would've guessed that? The top ten were: LEC, BOT, HAM, VER, GAS, GIO, KVY, MAG, RAI, ALB.

25 May 2019

0.2s currently separates Leclerc in P1 and Verstappen in P4, with the Mercedes' between. A mention too for Gasly, who is just two tenths slower than Verstappen, which is a clear improvement for him.

25 May 2019

Racing Point look like they may be propping up the midfield this weekend. They're currently sat in P17 and P18, ahead of the Williams cars and no one else.

25 May 2019

The Renault drivers have just moved up to P6 and P7 which will be a huge relief following their poor form in FP2.

25 May 2019

Leclerc has now gone fastest with a 1.11.265, which is much, much better than Ferraris have been doing all weekend.

25 May 2019

Honda's other team, Toro Rosso, are also looking good, currently sat P8 and P9. It could be a great weekend for the Japanese manufacturer.

25 May 2019

The Red Bull is looking strong this morning. Max Verstappen is in P3, 0.319s off Bottas in P1, who's done a 1.11.835.

25 May 2019

Minutes later, the other Ferrari found himself some trouble too, as he very nearly crashed into Magnussen who presumably "forgot" to look in his mirrors.

25 May 2019

Well, that's the end of the session for Vettel. Our first major crash of the weekend.

25 May 2019

Vettel crashed! The German locked up at turn 1 and went straight into the barriers, taking his left wheel and front-wing off in the process. Ouch.

25 May 2019

Bottas goes top, ahead of Charles Leclerc, with a 1.12.238, on the soft tyre.

25 May 2019

George Russell puts in the first time of the day, with a *modest* 1.22.611.

25 May 2019

We have green lights, and it's the McLaren of Lando Norris that is the first one out.

25 May 2019

It's another mild, cloudy day on the streets of Monte Carlo, but is set to remain dry. Worth noting though, that rain is forecast for tomorrow...

25 May 2019

The midfield battle looks as unpredictable as ever. Renault looked strong in FP1 before finishing P16 and P17 in FP2, while Alex Albon managed to get P5 in FP2, although his team-mate Kvyat finished P14. So, basically, the pecking order is anybody's guess.

25 May 2019

Ferrari meanwhile, don't look like they'll be in the fight for a win they so desperately need this weekend but instead will need some luck to even get a podium.

25 May 2019

There is perhaps a glimpse of hope that Max Verstappen can at least challenge the Mercedes though. He split them in FP1 and was unable to put any fast laps in during FP2 due to a water leak. This session should give us a better idea of his true pace.

25 May 2019

It's been the same old story so far in Monaco, with Hamilton fastest in both FP1 and FP2 and his Mercedes team-mate Bottas P3 and P2.

25 May 2019

Good morning and welcome back to Monte Carlo for Saturday's third and final practice session for the Monaco GP. All times are local.
