It was another strong stage for South African Dakar team, Toyota Gazoo Racing. The local team again put their best foot forward as Nasser Al-Attiyah and Mathieu Baumel sealed another stage win; their third in succession. Stage 4 proved to be especially good to rookie driver Henk Lategan and navigator Brett Cummings, who finished in third place.

In the overall standings, Al-Attiyah/Baumel are second overall, just 4min 58sec behind the leader, Stephane Peterhansel from Mini. Peterhansel has won the Dakar 13 times competing in both the bikes and cars categories, which duly gave him the nickname of 'Mr Dakar'. Lategan/Cummings made up good ground following a challenging Stage 1 and are now sitting in fifth place overall.

The fourth stage of the Dakar ran from Wadi Ad-Dawasir to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia's capital, and consisted of the race's longest liaison at 476km. The stage was characterized by its winding tracks - something Al-Attiyah made the most of.
