Johannesburt - Chevrolet SA has unveiled the 103kW Sonic RS at the 2013 Johannesburg International Motor Show to round off its range for 2014.

The Sonic RS has more power, improved handling and a sportier look; it will go on sale during the first quarter of 2014. Under the bonnet is a turbocharged 1.4-litre Ecotec petrol engine pushing out 103kW/200Nm.

Its exterior is more aggressive with 17” alloy rims, an RS-specific grille, chromed front fog light fixtures, black side mirrors, distinctive sills, chromed shoulder detailing and a sporty rear bumper.

The rear has a racing-inspired diffuser look with twin chromed exhaust outlets, special badging and more chromed bits. The twin pipes sound a special exhaust note from the sports-tuned exhaust system. There’s also a retuned suspension design, where a lowered ride height and stiffened and performance-tuned dampers improve ride and handling characteristics.

Inside there are leather seats, red stitching and more chromed accents with contrasting glossy black and matt silver dashboard elements.

MyLink will be standard in the RS, optional in 2014 Sonic LS, as well as being available on certain Trailblazer models in 2014. This system has been designed to work with Apple, Android and BlackBerry phones with special apps and Bluetooth. It will also be compatible with the Siri voice-control system.

The Chevrolet product portfolio can be visited at the General Motors South Africa stand in Hall 7 and outside at the 4x4 track at the Johannesburg International Motor Show.
