Ferrari's SF90 Stradale plug-in hybrid supercar gets a convertible version

accreditation

• Ferrari unveiled a Spider version of its SF90 Stradale.

• It's powered by V8 hybrid engine with total output of 735kW.

• It's fitted with a 'Qualify' mode for maximum power from the electric motors.

Ferrari has dropped the top on its SF90 Stradale, and unveiled the SF90 Spider. It's powered by the same four-litre V8 hybrid power motor in the hardtop SF90 Stradale.

The drop-top hyper car has a total maximum power of 735kW and will reach 100km/h from standstill in 2.5 seconds and onto a top speed of 340km/h. It uses a Formula 1-style 8-speed, oil-bath, dual-clutch gearbox.

The SF90 Spider boasts three power delivery modes that include:

Electric mode: entrusted to front axle (front-wheel drive mode)

Hybrid mode: entrusted to the ICE and the MGUK (rear-wheel-drive configuration)

4WD hybrid mode: This when the electric front axle is available on-demand for traction requirements exiting corners and energy recovery in lift-off/ braking, Ferrari says.

The four switchable drive modes can changed via the Manettino switch and include:

eDrive: the V8 relaxes for a moment and traction is entrusted entirely to the electric front axle. The claimed range in eDrive mode is up to 25km with a fully charged battery. There's a limited speed of 135 km/h.

Hybrid: The V8 is back up and rumbling,  but Ferrari says this setting optimises the system's overall efficiency.

Performance: this mode keeps the V8 running because the priority is more on charging the battery than on efficiency, this means the power is fully available when required.

Qualify: Also known as insane mode, the full 735kW is achieved by letting the electric motors work at their maximum potential (162kW).
