The refreshed Suzuki Baleno is available in local showrooms and on the Japanese automaker's website. The changes to the latest model include: newer front-end, new colours and an upgraded trim level with a higher specification level on GL and GLX models.

The hatchback retains its 1.4-litre naturally-aspirated engine producing 68kW and 130Nm, and it's mated to a five-speed manual gearbox or the optional four-speed automatic transmission.

The biggest change is up front, with what Suzuki call a 'liquid flow' design ad translates into a wider more three-dimensional chrome strip that frames a new grille badge and headlight design.

The chrome strip now passes through the front headlights, while a tweaked lower bumper with a hexagonal centre intake adds more pizzazz to the previous clean-lined design.

A new hue, "Magma Grey" has been added to the five exterior paint colours.

In terms of specification, the GLX model benefits from new polished diamond-cut wheels, chrome door handles, beltline and on the rear tailgate. There's also a new spoiler on the rear tailgate and dark privacy glass on the back doors and tailgate.

Suzuki has added more comfort features to the GLX owners with cruise control, climate control, keyless entry with a push-button start, leather-trimmed steering wheel, rear park distance control with camera and a front armrest.

To top it off, a new infotainment system with a 17cm touchsreen integrates reverse camera footage, voice commands and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The GLX models are priced at R244 900 (manual) and R259 900 (auto).

Venture inside and you'll notice the seats feature a new two-tone colour treatment, and door trim. There are smatterings of brushed aluminium inserts across the dashboard, air-conditioning vents, steering wheel and instrument cluster.

The lower-priced GL model, priced from R209 900, now adds keyless access, 12-volt sockets in the front and rear, a height-adjustable driver seat and a light in the boot. Nifty.

All models feature a five-year or 200 000km warranty and a four-year or 60 000km service plan.
