Mercedes-Benz has finally introduced the AMG versions of their luxury GLE SUV.
The Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+ and GLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupé makes use of an electrified 3.0-litre engine featuring twin-turbocharging and an electric auxiliary compressor. It generates 320kW and 520Nm, sending power to all four wheels via the 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel drive through a 9-speed automatic transmission.
Where performance is concerned, it does the 0-100km/h sprint in 5.3-seconds and runs to an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h. The 4MATIC+ is priced at R1.8-million while the Coupe goes for R1.9-million.

Considerable stopping power is needed to bring the SUV to a halt, and it does so thanks to 400mm ventilated and perforated integral brake disks at the front and 345mm ventilated ones at the rear.
Bits like the grille and beefy 20-inch wheels are AMG-specific items. There are also seven rim variants available, ranging from 20 to 22-inch.
Red contrasting top stitching on the upholstery, AMG Performance steering wheel covered in black Nappa leather, and red seat belts are signature items on the inside.
Additional features include MBUX, which is included as standard, and intelligent voice-operated control 'Hey Mercedes'. There is also an optional, foldable third row of seats, which effectively makes the GLE 53 4MATIC+ a seven-seater. Thanks to the fully electrically adjustable second seat row's Easy Entry function, the two rearmost passengers can conveniently reach their seats.
Ride and comfort can be adjusted via AMG Ride Control+ air suspension, with sporty spring/damper set-ups and an adaptive adjustable damping ADS+ (Adaptive Damping System). The damping characteristics can be preselected in three modes, Comfort, Sport and Sport+, in addition, to another two new levels for off-road use: Trail and Sand.
A pneumatic self-levelling system allows a constant ride height, regardless of the vehicle load, while the chassis can be brought 15mm lower to the ground in Sport and Sport+ mode, while in Comfort mode, it can be lowered by the same amount from a speed of 120km/h.
