• Mercedes-Benz adds a new model to its luxury V-Class MPV range.
• The new V300d is powered by a four-cylinder diesel engine.
• The two-litre unit pushes out 132kW and 500Nm.
First introduced locally in 2015 the Mercedes-Benz V-Class has stood head and shoulders above competitors in the luxury multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) segment.
Last year it underwent a facelift that had a restyled front-end design, an updated cockpit as well as a new range of alloy wheels and interior trim options.
In 2020 Mercedes has added a V300d model to the range.
"The introduction of the V300d into our market means that we continue our success story as we build on the strengths of our MPV by adding more choice, luxury and individuality to the segment," said Nadia Trimmel, Vice President of Mercedes-Benz Vans South Africa.
New engine, new transmission – powerful and efficient
The new derivative is fitted with four-cylinder OM 654 engine, with a two-litre displacement and boasts 176kW and 500Nm. In the acceleration phase, the V300d can deliver an additional 30Nm of torque in addition to the 500Nm. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in up to 7.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 220km/h.
For the first time the 9G-Tronic automatic transmission is available in the V-Class range and is exclusively available as standard for all V300d variants.
There is also the dynamic select switch allows the driver to switch between "Comfort" and "Sport" drive programs and customise the gear shifting characteristics. The "Manual" mode allows the driver to shift manually using the steering wheel paddles.
As per normal in the V-Class range there Avantgarde and AMG line trim levels and these are carried over into the V300d. The V300d is shipped standard with the Exclusive line trim. Options include the panoramic sunroof, rear climatised seats and centre console with a built-in drinks cooler.
The Night Package is available exclusively for the V300d and can be specified in combination with AMG line and without. Mercedes says the trim elements are adjusted accordingly and include black exterior mirrors in obsidian lack, black anodised beltline trim and AMG front bumper with black trim.
Another notable features include the easy-pack tailgate that electrically closes the rear door, a split window in the tailgate with a raised parcel shelf 19-inch alloy wheels, either AMG or black AMG, or 10 spoke light alloy are standard.
The V300d models also feature the Mercedes-Benz User Experience or MBUX and will now be available across the full V-Class model range.
The system includes a 26cm touchscreen, Bluetooth, Smartphone integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Mercedes-Benz hard-disk navigation.
The standard Burmester sound system also comes standard on all V300d models and has a 16 speaker surround sound system. There is a cool integrated voice amplification system also ensures that the driver and front passenger can converse comfortably with rear passengers, regardless of the distance between them.
