Hyundai took a well-aimed dig at Volkswagen's T-Cross with a cheeky billboard advert, hinting at its new model arriving later this year.

Zero2Turbo posted a photograph of Hyundai SA's jibe at VW earlier on Friday (Oct 18), on Twitter.

The Hyundai Venue SUV hasn't made its local debut yet but its clear which model its targeting as its main rival.

In the 'Crosshairs'

The T-Cross is doing really well on the sales front because in September, the first month after its local launch, the automaker sold 810 units off showroom floors.

Hyundai South Africa says the new Venue will arrive locally in early December.

Zero2Turbo posted this on Twitter.

The Venue, says Hyundai, is packed with a host of premium driver safety and convenience technologies and will be the smallest and most affordable SUV in the local line-up when it arrives at dealerships in the fourth quarter of 2019.

Stanley Anderson, sales and operations director at Hyundai Automotive South Africa, says: "We plan to introduce the Venue in our local model line-up, pending the completion of a business case study.

"The initial impression of the Venue is that of a seamless combination of style and versatility. It is small in size, but big on practicality and personality, and it has lovely bold character."

The automaker says the firm's naming theme for SUVs has typically been a city or place.

The new entry SUV name references a “place” people want to be seen in, says Hyundai: "The vehicle embodies the characteristics of “the place to be”, while reaching the final desired destination, wherever that may be. The Venue symbolizes a trendy, unique style, perfect for Hyundai’s newest and smallest SUV."
