Mazda revealed its first production electric car at the Tokyo Motor Show, featuring unique freestyle doors and designed with ecological materials .
It has a range of 201km while at the same time marking another positive step in the brand's multi-solution approach to reducing emissions following the arrival of the Skyactiv-X engine.
"As with all our products, our designers and engineers had a very clear goal for our first battery-electric vehicle," says Yasuhiro Aoyama, President & CEO of Mazda Motor Europe.
"It had to have stand out design, be great to drive, something that is key part of Mazda’s DNA and makes us unique when compared with competitors, and most importantly, make a positive contribution to reducing emission across the entire life cycle of the product.
The focus is centered around the driver with driving characteristics like turning and accelerating improved because of the battery being rigidly integrated into the vehicle's body structure.
The Kodo design of 'less is more' is applied here both inside and out. Freestyle doors give the exterior a distinct look as well as giving passengers easy access to both the front and rear seats.
On the inside, eco-friendly materials replace real leather while there is also an environmentally sourced cork featured in the floating centre console which provides creative storage space.
Furthermore, Mazda engineers created an electronic sound system inside the SUV which is synchronized to motor torque in sound frequency and sound pressure.
