• Alfa Romeo's cars took an upturn in the 1960s

• Tipo 33 another successful track machine

• A 2.0-litre V8 engine powered 33 Stradale

Alfa Romeo is no stranger to building beautiful, aesthetically pleasing cars, but in the 1960s things took quite a turn - for the better!

Alfa had just built two cars on the same platform: the 33 Stradale and the Carabo. The 33 Stradale, Alfa says, looked like "an athlete in the midst of competition." The Carabo, on the other hand, was "all straight lines and angles, aimed at grasping the essence of mobility and pushing it forward into the future."

The shared technical basis of these two cars was the culmination of 50 years' of racing experience at Alfa Romeo. Ingenuity, advanced materials, and styling that marries technological innovation and creativity: these are the ingredients of the Tipo 33's design.

The Tipo 33 was Alfa Romeo's next-generation sports car. And while it would take a couple of years for the car to be ready for its first venture out on track, it won on its very first outing! Eventually, the Tip 33's 2.0-litre V8 engine found its way to the 33 Stradale and power remained unchanged at 170kW. The car could reach a top speed of 260km/h and hit 100km/h from standstill in 5.5 seconds!
