With South Africa gradually warming up to electric mobility, several automakers are testing the waters with their own electric vehicles (EVs). Jaguar, BMW, and Mini all have EVs on sale in the country, with the likes of Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen set to launch their own iterations of EVs in the very near future.

One of the most popular EV makers in the world will soon be making their mark on local soil thanks to South African technology group, Rubicon. The Group will bring a Tesla Model X to the country next week and use it for market research purposes. The Model X will arrive in Performance Edition trim and is the US-based company's take on an electric SUV.

According to My BroadBand, the director of Rubicon Energy & E-Mobility, Greg Blandford, said the arrival of the Model X would allow South Africans to engage with one of the world's leading EVs today.

Blandford said: "This is a big step forward for raising the profile of renewable energy in South Africa. The vehicle will be used for marketing initiatives within the Rubicon Group to promote Tesla Powerwall and officially launch Rubicon's entry into the electric vehicle charging space in South Africa. The arrival of our Model X gives South Africans the opportunity to see up close what an electric future looks like, and to experience high-performance electric vehicles and the technology showcased within the Tesla Model X for the first time."
