This will be a week South Africa will remember forever as our country locked down in a bid to stop the spread of the global coronavirus pandemic.

While we encourage all our readers to stay safe and stay home with your loved ones, we still need to keep sane with some motoring news to feed our petrol-driven souls.

I was somewhat torn this week: do we take a step back and only focus on motoring news surrounding the pandemic, or do we continue to feed the machine - what do our readers want?

We kept an eye on the numbers, as we usually do, and realised Wheels24 readers were craving some normality and off-beat news amid the madness.

We've had some great suggestions on what to do, and what to watch during the next 21 days to car reviews, crazy fun races and news, and even a drive in a Lamborghini Huracan Evo.

So just in case you missed it, here are our top ten best motoring stories of the week, in no particular order:

#1 OPINION | Look at me now! How the Mazda Astina went from unattractive standalone to trim level beauty

Oh boy, did our contributor Robin Classen ruffle some feathers this week with his opinion piece about the older-generation Mazda Astina, and how it's gone from an ugly duckling to a beautiful piece of work as the latest Mazda 3. This provoked Wheels24 reader Rene Frans to put Classen in his place as she reminisced about her old Astina.

#2 'It was love at first sight': Why my old Mazda Astina was such a beaut - reader

"I acknowledge that beauty is in the eye of the beholder so to each his own. As a past owner of a Mazda Astina, I can say that it was love at first sight. I always liked the underdog when it came to choosing my cars and not just going with the popular choices", said Frans.

We have five motorsport doccies all in one place for your viewing pleasure while you're at home without any live racing to watch."

#5 What it's like to drive a R5.5-million Lamborghini Huracan EVO for the first time

We get behind the wheel of the new Huracan EVO, and man, what a ride it was. I've been a Lambo-fan girl since I was little, and to finally get to drive one all on our own was my small piece of heaven before we geared up for the lockdown we find ourselves in. I share the experience of my first time giving a raging bull some horns.
