Just before the first decade of the new millennium draw to a close, Mercedes-Benz, and its performance arm AMG, revealed unto the world its new AMG SLS Gullwing. The car went into production from 2010 to 2015 and was replaced by the automaker’s newest halo sports car, the AMG GT.

The range consists of several models, all powered by the same turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine, albeit in different states of tune. The GT C Roadster is the soft-top member of the GT family and offers 410kW and 680Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Despite being on the heavy side, 1735kg kerb, the car is still capable of running the 0-100km/h sprint in 3.7 seconds and onto a top speed of 316km/h.

New, the GT C Roadster retails for R3 424 680, which is well out of reach for many a car buyer. Regardless, the car comes standard with a five-year/100 000km maintenance plan and a two-year/unlimited km warranty.

Several GT C Roadsters are for sale on the used car market and can be viewed on the AutoTrader website.
