Which Volvos do South Africans search for most?

Volvo Car South Africa is enjoying a good start to 2020 (in the first three months, the brand grew sales by 16% while all other premium car brands declined).

So, we all know that South Africans are besotted with the brand. But, which specific model is their most searched for Volvo?

An analysis of AutoTrader data for the period of September 2019 to February 2020 has revealed some interesting insights.

The Volvo XC60 is the most searched for model – by far. It ruled the search rankings in every single month during the period under review.

The second most searched for Volvo used to be the XC90 (it was the second most searched for Volvo in September, October and November 2019); since then, it's been trumped by the V40. The latter is especially interesting because the new V40 is not on the Swedish automaker's pricing bulletin for January 2020.

The third most searched for car in September, October, and November 2019 was the V40 while the XC90 claimed this position from December 2019 to February 2020.

The XC40 was the fourth most searched for Volvo in the entire period under review, followed by the S60. The latest new S60 is not available from Volvo Car South Africa – but the search data indicates that it remains popular in the used car market.

There are lots of parallels when it comes to the most sold used Volvos in South Africa. In the period under review, the XC60 was the top seller. This mimics the new car market – the award-winning XC60 (most significantly, it was named the 2018 World Car of the Year) is also the most popular new Volvo in South Africa.

The second most sold used Volvo during the period under review was the V40, followed by the XC90, S60 and V40 Cross Country.
