Paarl is one of the jewels of the Cape Boland, just 40km outside Cape Town on the N1. With its extraordinary vineyards, majestic views, and excoriating heat, this Boland town offers a little something for everyone. But did you know that when you venture into the nature reserve surrounding the Taal Monument, there's a massive rock that overlooks the quaint town?
Several members from the 'Off the Beaten Track' off-road group recently ventured to Paarl Rock to explore the area and its surroundings. By the looks of it, it wasn't too much of a battle getting there, but the group couldn't just go to the rock and not explore the gems the area is known for.
They soon found a backroad and that allowed them to put their 4x4s to the test. Though the 4x4 excursion is not what the group is used to, it was still enough to still the hunger to get the tyres dirty. The vehicles forming part of the day's adventure included a Mitsubishi Pajero, Ford Ranger, and a Toyota Hilux.
