Toyota launches 'Epic' Fortuners in SA, drops V6 and manual models

accreditation

South Africa’s favourite SUV, the Toyota Fortuner, sees an ‘epic’ update to its model line-up, but also the discontinuing of other models.

The Epic models, available in Epic and Epic Black trims, will be applied to the 2.8-litre GD-6 derivatives, only. As the name implies, the Epic Black utilises black accents to up the ante visually. The Epic package will be applied to all Fortuner 2.8 models.

The Fortuner is built on the Hilux double cab’s architecture, which is only part of the reason why it’s such a favourite locally.

The usual array of 2.8 Fortuner specification items apply, including dual-zone climate control, smart entry and push start, touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, reverse camera, TFT Multi-Information Display (MID), blue Optitron instrumentation, cruise control, steering switches, power-adjustable driver seat, and power back door.

Epic package

Toyota notes that a branded nudge-bar and tow are standard on all Epic models, while the Epic Black models feature a bi-tone design with black roof, black roof rails, black side-view mirrors, and all-black 18-inch alloy wheels.

Epic models can be had in Glacier White, Chromium Silver, Graphite Grey or Avant-Garde Bronze.

Inside, metal scuff plates and an Epic-branded carpet set are added, as well as the usual Fortuner luxuries such as the leather interior and soft-touch dashboard trim. The interior layout remains unchanged with seating for seven passengers.
