The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is one of the world's most iconic vehicles, and yes that line might be over repeated but it's true.
It's been around for forty years and some owners still drive the one they bought four decades ago. Wheels24 attended the international launch that took place in France in July 2018 and we then had flagship G63 AMG on test towards the end of 2018.
The AMG model like the other 'normal' models gets a lot of attention, but the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine produces 430kW and 850Nm.
All that power is channeled through a nine-speed automatic gearbox to all four wheels.
But it's the grin-inducing noise that emanates from those four exhaust tips (two either side) that is special.
Here's German publication Deutsche Welle's take on the G-Class: "The Mercedes G-Class has survived for 40 years. Now, this cross-country vehicle has been thoroughly re-worked. The design language, with round headlights and fender-mounted turn signals, has not changed. But the interior and ride quality have."
