On Monday 26 April, Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula reposted an old tweet about the extended licence grace period. While it might be a friendly reminder, it's caused some panic amongst motorists.

It's all good, and well, there are reminders to motorists to get their affairs in order before the looming deadline, but it's of no help when the Natis online system is a complete shambles - even before the pandemic hit more than a year ago. It also doesn't help that 'Mr Fixit' doesn't respond to the countless queries about licence issues on his personal profile.

Two weeks ago, I wrote about the 31 August deadline being just around the corner, urging those who had lockdown expired driving licences to apply for a new card as soon as possible. But, with rumours of an imminent third wave hitting in the next couple of weeks, and motorists in Gauteng not being able to book an online licence appointment in more than three months - I can only imagine the mess we will be facing in the next few months.
