It's drag race time again, and it's quite a star-studded affair as the team at Carwow pit a Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster against the latest Tesla Model S Performance.
It's more than just a race to see which is the quickest car off the line, but to see if the Lamborghini's massive top speed can haul it across the finish line ahead of the Tesla.
There's also a match-up between a massive naturally-aspirated V12 engine and the American car's twin electric motors which produce a dizzying 615kW and 1300Nm. Yes, you read correctly, 1300Nm.
These drag race tests between Tesla and performance cars powered by combustion engines are popular because electric vehicles are rewriting the rule book in how fast cars can launch off the line.
The torque from the electric motors is instant and gives it the edge over other non-electric cars. While Tesla does not sell cars locally, we've driven the Jaguar I-Pace and can attest to how rapid the cat can pounce off the line.
Still, it's quite startling to see a sedan line up against an exotic Italian supercar in a drag race, but sometimes surprises come in small packages.
The guys at Carwow said: "Yianni is BACK, and he's brought his Aventador S Roadster with him! It's packing a 6.5-litre V12 under the bonnet, which can produce 551kW and 690Nm."
"But this isn't the first time one of his Lamborghini's has gone up against a Tesla, and this time, he might have met his match in the Model S Performance! With its dual electric motors it brings 615kW and an epic 1300Nm", they concluded.
