16 Aug 2020

Thank you for tuning in. See you in two weeks time for the Belgian Grand Prix.

16 Aug 2020

Hamilton wins!

16 Aug 2020

It's the final lap and Hamilton is making his way to the finish line.

16 Aug 2020

Albon is chasing Vettel down, with only 1.5sec between them.

16 Aug 2020

Vettel under pressure from Sainz for sixth place. Will the tyres on that Ferrari hold up for the final six laps?

16 Aug 2020

Hamilton just passed fourth-placed Perez again. Every driver, bar Verstappen and Bottas, have been lapped by Hamilton.

16 Aug 2020

With 13 laps remaining, will Vettel be able to make to the end of the race with tyres that are, at the moment, some 28 laps old?

16 Aug 2020

Vettel and his Ferrari team having a bit of a tiff after being told that he must go to the race on his current set of tyres.

16 Aug 2020

Hamilton rejoins the race with a 10sec lead over Verstappen.

16 Aug 2020

However, the championship leader asks for one more lap and is heading into the pits now.

16 Aug 2020

And hamilton is called into the pits. He is 32sec ahead of Verstappen, so should comfortably rejoin at the front of the race.

16 Aug 2020

Did you know that Hamilton had just lapped fourth-placed Sergio Perez?

16 Aug 2020

The sole remaining Ferrari, Vettel, is currently running in fifth place.

16 Aug 2020

Bottas is struggling with his left front tyre, but the team is keeping him out for another lap or two.

16 Aug 2020

Hamilton has eked out a gap of 8.5sec over Verstappen. That's quite an advantage.

16 Aug 2020

Leclerc is the first and only retirement of the race so far.

16 Aug 2020

Coming out of the final chicane, Leclerc's engine cut out, which locked the rear axle; sending him spinning out of the race.

16 Aug 2020

Leclerc is out of the race, saying his engine cut out.

16 Aug 2020

Leclerc is out!

16 Aug 2020

Ocon just paid the pits a visit and rejoins in 18th place.

16 Aug 2020

Leclerc is running in 12th place, but has no answer to Norris' pace in 11th.

16 Aug 2020

Lance Stroll defends against team mate Sergio Perez.

16 Aug 2020

Carlos Sainz passes Albon for 11th place. Next up is Renault's Esteban Ocon.

16 Aug 2020

With new tyres, Bottas is 1.5sec behind Verstappen. Will Mercedes be trying anything to get their driver ahead of the Red Bull man?

16 Aug 2020

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel are in sixth and seventh places, 20 and 27sec behind Hamilton, respectively.

16 Aug 2020

Hamilton is in the pits, Mercedes fitting him with the Medium tyre. The same for Bottas on the same lap.

16 Aug 2020

Carlos Sainz takes on an interesting strategy. McLaren fitted him with another set of Soft tyres.

16 Aug 2020

Verstappen makes his stop and Red Bull fits the Medium tyre on his car.

16 Aug 2020

Verstappen complaining about his tyres, but Red Bull is keeping him out.

16 Aug 2020

Hamilton leads Verstappen by 4.6sec, and Bottas can't get closer to the Red Bull driver.

16 Aug 2020

Kvyat using DRS to close in on Vettel and comes ever closer to passing the four-times F1 champion.

16 Aug 2020

Sebastian Vettel is under attack from AlphaTauri driver, Daniil Kvyat.

16 Aug 2020

Bottas' team radio: His tyres are still good for the set amount of planned laps, plus an extra one.

16 Aug 2020

Hamilton, it seems, is not taking too much out of his tyres. He is maintaining a gap of 1.5sec over Verstappen.

16 Aug 2020

Bottas is back into third place, having passed both Racing Points after a poor start.

16 Aug 2020

Lewis Hamilton has a gap of 1.6sec over Max Vertstappen, who is 1.6sec ahead of Stroll.

16 Aug 2020

Charles Leclerc is ahead of Lando Norris, but is being hounded by the young Englishman for ninth pace.

16 Aug 2020

And we're off! Hamilton leads from Verstappen and Lance Stroll.

16 Aug 2020

Drivers are lining up for the start of the race.

16 Aug 2020

It was at this very that Max Verstappen got his first win in 2016.

16 Aug 2020

So, Mercedes have proven they can indeed handle the heat, so that's that bubble burst. Next up is the Belgian Grand Prix in two weeks' time. Engine 'qualifying modes' may be banned by then, but can anybody stop Mercedes? We will see you at Spa.

16 Aug 2020

Well then, Hamilton moves on to 132 points in the Drivers' Championship, Verstappen retains P2 on 95 points as the gap grows to 37.

16 Aug 2020

Quite rightly Vettel is voted Driver of the Day for the Spanish Grand Prix!

16 Aug 2020

Ocon, Raikkonen, Magnussen, Giovinazzi, Russell, Latifi and Grosjean complete the order.

16 Aug 2020

Vettel holds off the Albon, Gasly, Norris, Ricciardo and Kvyat train to finish an impressive P7.

16 Aug 2020

The Racing Points of Perez and Stroll follow in P4 and 5, with Sainz in P6 at his home race.

16 Aug 2020

And Hamilton wins the Spanish Grand Prix at a canter! Verstappen finishes P2 with Bottas soon to finish P3.

16 Aug 2020

Big slide for Grosjean after going over the kerb at Turn 7. He is last and under investigation for an incident with Antonio Giovinazzi.

16 Aug 2020

Bottas makes a third stop for a new set of medium tyres with two laps to go.

16 Aug 2020

Bottas sets a new fastest lap of the race for that extra point. He took 2 seconds out of Verstappen but with five seconds to make up in 3 laps it is now or never.

16 Aug 2020

Vettel goes defensive into T1 so Sainz just goes around the outside for P6 in his home race.

16 Aug 2020

Hamilton, Verstappen and Bottas are the only drivers on the lead lap. Hello there budget cap, come on in!

16 Aug 2020

Stroll passes Vettel for P5 into Turn 1. No fight from Vettel there on those very worn soft tyres.

16 Aug 2020

A five-second penalty or Kvyat as well, the Stewards are being consistent.

16 Aug 2020

Kvyat is now under investigation too for ignoring blue flags.

16 Aug 2020

Perez gets a five-second time penalty for ignoring blue flags.

16 Aug 2020

The sun is back out, no rain. This comes as a complete surprise for sure.

16 Aug 2020

Vettel snaps at Ferrari on the radio after the ask him if he wants to go to the end on his soft tyres. Tension for sure.

16 Aug 2020

Bottas pits and moves on to the soft tyres. If he wants to finish P2 then he will have to pass Verstappen on the track.

16 Aug 2020

Ferrari are saying an electrical issue was behind Leclerc's retirement.

16 Aug 2020

Clouds closing in and the sun is disappearing. This way please rain.

16 Aug 2020

Albon desperately tries to make it past Sainz as they battle through the opening three corners, but Sainz retains P10.

16 Aug 2020

Verstappen was worried about Bottas' pace behind so pits for new medium tyres.

16 Aug 2020

Albon pits for a new set of medium tyres, he comes out P11. Leclerc has boxed and becomes the first retirement of the race.

16 Aug 2020

Leclerc has spun at the chicane after the engine switched off on him. He got it going again but is now P20 and last, but the SF1000 is well down on power. He is going to box and retire.

16 Aug 2020

And there we go, Lap 37 has arrived and Raikkonen is now the most experienced driver in Formula 1 history!

16 Aug 2020

"Expecting rain after Lap 50" say Ferrari to Vettel on the radio. For once could we actually have the mid-race rain which is threatened?

16 Aug 2020

What a battle we have between Ocon, Norris and Leclerc for P10. Ocon pits but Kvyat is approaching.

16 Aug 2020

Some dark clouds coming in from Turn 4. A bit of rain? Yes please.

16 Aug 2020

Perez takes Sainz into Turn 1, now it's time to get after team-mate Stroll.

16 Aug 2020

Racing Point pit both drivers, Stroll has clear air in P5 but it's P7 for Perez and right into the traffic.

16 Aug 2020

And back down to P11 for Albon as Sainz passes him into T1 on the soft rubber. It will be interesting to see how Red Bull justify this strategy call.

16 Aug 2020

Albon passes Magnussen for P10. Next up Ocon.

16 Aug 2020

"These black overalls are f*****g hot" says Bottas over team radio. Ah, so they were just a plot in the title race all along for Hamilton. Like Rosberg said, get grilling those burgers Bottas.

16 Aug 2020

Red Bull really seem to have compromised Albon with that early stop for the hard tyres. He is stuck in P11 with Sainz all over him on the soft tyres.

16 Aug 2020

Mercedes are taking no risk with Hamilton, he pits for a new set of medium tyres. A slow stop though from the Silver Arrows who double-stack and also put Bottas on the mediums who comes out behind Verstappen.

16 Aug 2020

Verstappen and Red Bull are having a heated debate over team radio. Verstappen wants off these tyres, and finally the team agree. He goes onto the medium rubber. A 1.9-second pit stop from Red Bull! That gets him out ahead of both Racing Points.

16 Aug 2020

Esteban Ocon wins out in a nice duel with Kimi Raikkonen for P14. Albon takes advantage to slip down the inside of the veteran.

16 Aug 2020

"Struggling with rear" says Verstappen. Unfortunately it isn't a bluff. Albon meanwhile pits and fits the hard tyre.

16 Aug 2020

Big gap now between Bottas and Stroll of 14 seconds. Looks like Mercedes are trying to build a gap so that Hamilton can pit and come out in front of Stroll.

16 Aug 2020

Hamilton improves by another 0.3s on his next lap. Verstappen doesn't have a response yet.

16 Aug 2020

A 1:23.0 from Hamilton as Mercedes turn it up. Verstappen reports that his tyres don't feel great.

16 Aug 2020

Albon has closed in on Perez. Red Bull could really do with him clearing the Racing Points to give Verstappen some support in the fight against Mercedes.

16 Aug 2020

"I know, but he is just driving super slow," says Verstappen when Red Bull warn him that he is taking a little too much out of the gap to Hamilton early on. How dare Mercedes hold him up so badly.

16 Aug 2020

Bottas now with the fastest lap in the clear air.

16 Aug 2020

Vettel is still in P11 but has the AlphaTauri of Kvyat all over his rear wing.

16 Aug 2020

Hamilton is out of DRS range but Verstappen responds with the fastest lap. Bottas this time passes Stroll easily into Turn 1 for P3.

16 Aug 2020

Bottas has a look down the inside at Turn 1 but Stroll defends the line well.

16 Aug 2020

Mercedes remind Bottas that it's critical for him to quickly dispatch of Stroll.

16 Aug 2020

Bottas quickly has pulled away from Perez in P5, Albon, Sainz, Gasly, Leclerc and Norris complete the top 10 as we start Lap 3.

16 Aug 2020

Terrible start from Bottas who is down to P4. Hamilton leads, followed by Verstappen and Stroll.

16 Aug 2020

Hamilton leads them away for a steady formation lap.

16 Aug 2020

Kvyat, Magnussen and Russell are the only drivers outside the top 10 to start on the soft tyres. The rest are on the mediums and of course the top 10 were locked into starting on softs after qualifying.

16 Aug 2020

Time to get excited. The Spanish Grand Prix is five minutes away.

16 Aug 2020

Norris predicts this Spanish GP will be the "hottest race we've ever done". Sorry Mercedes.

16 Aug 2020

Final preparations now as the drivers get ready to be strapped into their cars.

16 Aug 2020

The drivers send their messages against racism, followed by the national anthems of Spain and Catalonia.

16 Aug 2020

There may be some slapping going on towards the back of the grid, particularly at Haas and Williams. Romain Grosjean's Friday pace completely vanished in qualifying, he starts from P17, whilst Williams have been struggling big time on the hard rubber so far this weekend.

16 Aug 2020

Nico Rosberg jokes that Valtteri Bottas should be "slapping burgers on a grill" outside Lewis Hamilton's motorhome to get into his head in the title fight. Once rivals, always rivals.

16 Aug 2020

One team who may well need some help are Ferrari. Charles Leclerc will start from P9, Sebastian Vettel from P11, and neither were happy with the handling of the SF1000 throughout qualifying.

16 Aug 2020

McLaren had a solid qualifying - Carlos Sainz will start P7 with Lando Norris in P8. If Sainz can overcome those mystery cooling issues, and a few incidents happen ahead, then the team could be set for a very strong afternoon.

16 Aug 2020

Verstappen has the old Honda PU back in his Red Bull, a change the team made overnight.

16 Aug 2020

This is also a huge race for Alex Albon. The Red Bull man was able to qualify in P6, the kind of spot his team would expect, and now he will have the chance to use that lightning race pace to better effect with less cars to clear.

16 Aug 2020

Verstappen will be joined on row two by Racing Point's Sergio Perez, and with the other 'pink Mercedes' of Lance Stroll starting from P5, Verstappen won't be able to look too far ahead of him without keeping an eye in his mirrors.

16 Aug 2020

Verstappen admitted that he seems to have a "subscription" to P3 this weekend, but he has looked competitive on the long runs and will hope to get a good run on Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas on the long run down to Turn 1.

16 Aug 2020

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff says Max Verstappen and Red Bull are the favourites to win the Spanish Grand Prix from P3. We know that is just mind games, but the Silver Arrows will be wary of their tyres in the super high temperatures after what went down last week at Silverstone.

16 Aug 2020

Hello and welcome to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, it's race day! Lights in out in one hours' time, but until then we are here to keep you entertained and bring you up to speed with all the major talking points heading into the race. All times are local.

15 Aug 2020

Hamilton tops the opening session ahead of Perez and Verstappen.

15 Aug 2020

At last Raikkonen escapes Q1. Magnussen, Grosjean, Russell, Latifi and Giovinazzi haven't been so lucky, very disappointing for Grosjean following his pace on Friday.

15 Aug 2020

Clock ticks down to zero, laps incoming.

15 Aug 2020

Magnussen is under investigation again. The Stewards are going to look at an incident involving him and Daniil Kvyat after the session.

15 Aug 2020

Five minutes to go. Grosjean, Raikkonen, Magnussen, Latifi and Giovinazzi are in the elimination zone.

15 Aug 2020

This session is of course about eliminating the slowest five runners, but that battle hasn't really begun yet.

15 Aug 2020

Make that Sergio Perez in P2, 0.08s down on Hamilton. Verstappen meanwhile says his RB16 "feels weird".

15 Aug 2020

Hamilton wins that opening battle with a 1:17.037. Bottas is over three tenths adrift and only 0.002s better off than Verstappen. Lance Stroll pops up into P2 early.

15 Aug 2020

The ominous site of a pair of Mercedes trundling down the pit lane - Hamilton and Bottas take to the track.

15 Aug 2020

Latifi wins the opening Williams battle with a 1:19.231, 0.3s up on Russell. Is the Briton's 100% record of outqualifying his team-mate in Formula 1 under threat?

15 Aug 2020

Q1 is underway. Williams' Nicholas Latifi heads straight out.

15 Aug 2020

It's a roasting 49c track temperature right now. Will this prompt Red Bull to try another strategical masterstroke in qualifying for the race?

15 Aug 2020

As for those under pressure heading into qualifying - Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull's Alex Albon simply must put in a better showing against their team-mates Leclerc and Verstappen respectively. Come the end of FP3 both were left with over half a second to find.

15 Aug 2020

In FP3 we saw a nasty incident where Kevin Magnussen slowed and drifted into the path of Esteban Ocon, causing him to spin into the wall. Ocon did appear to be distracted and not react quick enough to Magnussen and the Stewards took no further action. Renault are reportedly winning the battle to get Ocon's R.S.20 ready for Q1.

15 Aug 2020

The fight behind Verstappen for P4 has been changing throughout practice. Carlos Sainz held that spot at the end of FP3.

15 Aug 2020

Their closest challenger remains Max Verstappen. Although he was half a second off P1 in FP3, the Dutchman has whittled that gap down on the Mercedes' from almost a second at the start of the weekend. Don't count him out.

15 Aug 2020

Mercedes remain very much the team to beat. They have finished one-two in every practice session so far, but there remains little to choose between Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton in the battle for pole.

15 Aug 2020

Welcome back to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, qualifying is 30 minutes away! All times are local.

15 Aug 2020

It's Mercedes back in one-two formation at the top with Hamilton leading the way. Verstappen P3. But what an effort from Gasly who finished that session P5 just two tenths down on Verstappen.

15 Aug 2020

It's another Q2 elimination for Vettel. Kvyat, Ricciardo, Raikkonen and Ocon join him in missing the shootout for pole.

15 Aug 2020

The slow stampede to the line, thankfully no repeat of Monza last year where they all got timed out.

15 Aug 2020

Raikkonen is P15 and needs to find a second to make Q3. Kvyat, Gasly, Ocon and Vettel are the other drivers in danger. Interestingly nobody is trying to get through on the medium tyres yet to secure them for the race start.

15 Aug 2020

Verstappen needs to find another half a second on the Mercs after his first run.

15 Aug 2020

Mercedes were just playing with us. A 1:16.0 from Hamilton on his first run, Bottas is 0.139 adrift.

15 Aug 2020

The green light is on for Q2.

15 Aug 2020

So, make sure to join us tomorrow for what is sure to be a fascinating, and very hot Spanish Grand Prix!

15 Aug 2020

To steal Max's phrase, there is no point in any of them "sitting behind like grandma" because if they don't do it at the start, Mercedes may just drive away.

15 Aug 2020

Well, comfortable for Mercedes again, but with all the top 10 starting on the softs it will be an interesting drag race down to Turn 1, Verstappen, Perez and maybe even Stroll will be fancying a run on the Mercs.

15 Aug 2020

It's P3 for Verstappen who will share the second row with Perez. Stroll, Albon, Sainz, Norris, Leclerc and Gasly complete the top 10 of the grid for the Spanish Grand Prix.

15 Aug 2020

Bottas misses out, Hamilton fails to improve but he is on pole for the Spanish Grand Prix!

15 Aug 2020

Back out they come for the last attack!

15 Aug 2020

Albon is a full second slower than team-mate Verstappen.

15 Aug 2020

Oh cut it out Mercedes. It's a 1:15.584 for Hamilton who has provisional pole by 0.059s over Bottas after the first flying laps. Verstappen is 0.7s off the pace in P3.

15 Aug 2020

Nearly another crash there between Albon and Hamilton as he is released from his garage into the path of the six-time World Champion.

15 Aug 2020

Here we go for Q3, which Mercedes will be on pole for the Spanish Grand Prix?

14 Aug 2020

Well then, business as usual for Mercedes with another comfortable one-two finish here in FP1. Join us in a few hours for FP2 when the other nine teams should start to turn the engines up a little.

14 Aug 2020

Sainz finishes P11, followed by Ocon, Norris, Gasly, Giovinazzi, Raikkonen, Kvyat, Ricciardo, Latifi and Nissany.

14 Aug 2020

Leclerc, Vettel, Grosjean, Perez, Albon, Magnussen and Stroll complete the top 10.

14 Aug 2020

And that's session over, Bottas is fastest, 0.039s ahead of Hamilton. Verstappen finishes 0.939s behind in P3. All fastest times were set on the softs for the top three.

14 Aug 2020

Red Bull confirm no issue for Albon, they just lost a signal.

14 Aug 2020

Perez gets a little confused by the flashing lights on Nissany's Williams, the team remind him that it's the new "young driver light".

14 Aug 2020

10 minutes to go, Bottas remains on top with Mercedes almost a second clear in FP1.

14 Aug 2020

Russell isn't having FP1 off after all, he is operating the lolly pop to guide team-mate Latifi into his pit box.

14 Aug 2020

Bottas says he hit a bird in flight that came very close to touching his crash helmet. Could have been dangerous.

14 Aug 2020

Albon is told to "slow the car" with Red Bull telling him they "may have a problem". He is down in P17.

14 Aug 2020

Verstappen has switched onto the softs but he is still 0.9s down on Mercedes. Leclerc has gone P3 with team-mate Vettel very close behind in P4.

14 Aug 2020

Nissany has gone for a spin in the Williams on the back straight.

14 Aug 2020

AlphaTauri are working hard on the push rods of Gasly's car.

14 Aug 2020

Mercedes crank it up now on the soft rubber. Bottas goes fastest with a 1:16.785, Hamilton is just 0.039s behind. Haas are P3 and P4, headed by Grosjean who is 1.5s down on the Mercedes duo.

14 Aug 2020

40 minutes to go in the session, it's a good old Mercedes one-two with Hamilton topping the session as it stands after setting a 1:18.516 on his C1s.

14 Aug 2020

Perez moves up to P3 with a 1:18.6, Verstappen is half a second off the pace in P4 but he is running the hard tyres. Perez's time was set on the softs.

14 Aug 2020

That W11 looked unusually twitchy on that flying lap for Hamilton, he goes into P2 on the hard tyres, half a second down on team-mate Bottas.

14 Aug 2020

A mini race there between Hamilton and Stroll into the final chicane, but Hamilton gives and then turns off into the pit lane.

14 Aug 2020

Albon is complaining of the car feeling "sharp" turning in to corners, then saying his RB16 "understeers" a lot.

14 Aug 2020

Perez moves into P5 as he works his way back up to speed after missing the last two races.

14 Aug 2020

P9 for Albon after his first run, behind the Williams of Nicholas Latifi.

14 Aug 2020

Bottas takes 0.999s out of Verstappen's time as he goes fastest, but on the medium C2 tyres.

14 Aug 2020

And Max sets a 1:19.574 as his team-mate Albon heads out, those wires must all be in the right places now.

14 Aug 2020

Ah finally, cars back on the track. 2016 Spanish Grand Prix winner Verstappen has ventured out on the hard tyres.

14 Aug 2020

All pretty quiet at the moment. Red Bull have been pulling a load of wires out of Alex Albon's car.

14 Aug 2020

Leclerc has the aero rakes attached to the rear wing of his SF1000 for his first stint.

14 Aug 2020

Sebastian Vettel heads out straight away on the C1 hard tyres. Those are the hardest compound in the Pirelli range and will probably be the tyre of choice come race day due to the demanding conditions. The C2s are the mediums and C3s the softs for this weekend.

14 Aug 2020

There's the green light, FP1 is underway! We have a 35c track temperature already. Roy Nissany will be behind the wheel of George Russell's FW43 for this session.

14 Aug 2020

Right then, five minutes to go until FP1 kicks-off the Spanish Grand Prix. Mercedes have led every practice session here since 2016, so that's one hell of a trend to break for their rivals.

14 Aug 2020

Speaking of tension, there is certainly some of it surrounding the returning Sergio Perez. A huge welcome back to the Racing Point driver and it's great to hear he has now fully recovered from COVID-19. But, some of the reports surrounding what he did during his visit to Mexico have irked him. He will not accept any blame for catching the virus.

14 Aug 2020

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc said that a "quali mode" ban would be "only positive" for them. His team-mate Sebastian Vettel is searching for any positive right now, but denied there is growing "tension" between himself and the team, whilst adding that there have been no conversations about a mid-season split.

14 Aug 2020

This weekend could be the last that Mercedes have with their "party mode". The FIA are planning to ban qualifying engine modes, and that could come into effect from 2021, or as soon as the Belgian Grand Prix in two weeks' time. Of course Mercedes' rivals are totally onboard with the idea, whilst Hamilton said it's an attempt to slow Mercedes down.

14 Aug 2020

Verstappen himself isn't prepared to start proclaiming that Red Bull have got a grip on the Silver Arrows, but he must fancy his chances here in Barcelona after seeing how badly they struggled with tyres last weekend in the heat. But, let's not forget the compounds are a step harder this weekend.

14 Aug 2020

Mercedes were wounded at the 70th Anniversary GP as Max Verstappen took the win, but will there be a repeat this weekend? The weather is set fine again and Mercedes will not be looking forward to keeping their tyres happy.

14 Aug 2020

Hello and welcome, the Spanish Grand Prix weekend begins here at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in just 30 minutes time with FP1. All times are local.

14 Aug 2020

Well, Verstappen found an extra tenth there on Mercedes, but the Silver Arrows are still the better part of a second ahead of the Dutchman. Saturday is when it really matters though, and FP3 will provide one more opportunity for the drivers to find peak performance before qualifying. Join us tomorrow for all the action!

14 Aug 2020

Stroll is P11 with Vettel, Albon, Norris, Kvyat, Magnussen, Giovinazzi, Latifi and Russell forming the bottom half of the FP2 order.

14 Aug 2020

Ricciardo, Grosjean, Leclerc, Sainz, Perez, Ocon and Gasly complete the top 10.

14 Aug 2020

And that's session over, Hamilton is on top this time with Bottas in P2 to make it another Mercedes one-two. Verstappen is best of the rest again.

14 Aug 2020

"Loss of power" says Grosjean as he returns to the pits. He is set to finish the season in P5.

14 Aug 2020

Bottas understeers off into the gravel, it seems those hard tyres are having an ice-effect for the Finn as well.

14 Aug 2020

"It's like driving on ice" says Russell. Williams it seems will have to make the mediums work then, because the hard tyres are doing nothing for them.

14 Aug 2020

Daniil Kvyat isn't happy with Nicholas Latifi for blocking him into Turn 1, but both were on race runs so not much is likely to come of that.

14 Aug 2020

Sainz misses the final chicane and takes the old layout, McLaren quickly remind him over the radio that the FIA have told drivers not to do that unless they are clearly impeding another driver.

14 Aug 2020

Bottas completes the seventh lap of his soft-tyre run,1:22.9 is his average time, but crucially he reported that the balance of wear was much better.

14 Aug 2020

"Brakes suddenly feel really bad" says Kimi Raikkonen. The Alfa Romeo driver is down in P17.

14 Aug 2020

Albon is still struggling. His soft-tyre run leaves him down in P13, almost 0.8s adrift of team-mate Verstappen.

14 Aug 2020

Solid effort from Ricciardo to get within a second of Mercedes, Verstappen then betters his time by a tenth to go P3.

14 Aug 2020

Ferrari's soft-tyre run sees Leclerc go P4, 1.264s off the pace, Vettel is 0.3s further back.

14 Aug 2020

Magnussen has 0.6s to find on his team-mate as he goes ninth-fastest, but is soon shuffled down to P13.

14 Aug 2020

Hamilton on the softs goes P1 with a 1:16.883. Perhaps more impressively through Grosjean has set a 1:18.133 worthy of P3.

14 Aug 2020

Sainz pops up to P3 on the soft rubber, just over a second down on Bottas' time.

14 Aug 2020

And he quickly uses them to good affect by setting a 1:17.170. Mercedes tell him to do two laps of cool down before going for another run.

14 Aug 2020

Bottas has been given a set of softs, he is back out on the track.

14 Aug 2020

Verstappen splits the Mercs after setting a 1:17.997. He is on the medium tyres like Hamilton.

14 Aug 2020

"Rear tyres are just not working at all" says Russell over team radio. He's on the hards too.

14 Aug 2020

Bottas reporting that the grip is low on the hard tyres, so Mercedes give him permission to return to the pits.

14 Aug 2020

Bottas jumps up to P2 on the hard tyres, 0.6s slower than Hamilton.

14 Aug 2020

It's a 1:17.970 for Hamilton on the medium tyres.

14 Aug 2020

Leclerc goes to the top with a 1:19.050, Bottas slots into P2. But big lap incoming from Hamilton.

14 Aug 2020

Drivers are in the 1:19's early on. Expect that to come down.

14 Aug 2020

Ah there we go, was starting to worry everyone was still on their lunch breaks, Lando Norris heads out onto the track on the medium tyres.

14 Aug 2020

FP2 begins!

14 Aug 2020

Right then just a few minutes to go now until FP2 gets underway, the sun is shining bright for this 90-minute session. Air temp is 30c, which is hot enough, but then we have 48c track temperature!

14 Aug 2020

After handing his Williams over to junior driver Roy Nissany for FP1, George Russell will take over again for this session. That's sure to please Perez who was getting confused by the flashing young driver lights on the Williams in FP1.

14 Aug 2020

Romain Grosjean was the surprise of FP1 after putting his Haas in P6, whilst Sergio Perez had a solid showing after missing both rounds in Silverstone with P7.

14 Aug 2020

Behind Verstappen in FP1 was the two Ferraris. Charles Leclerc took P4 with Sebastian Vettel in P5, but with that new chassis Vettel thankfully looks much closer to his team-mate than he did at Silverstone last weekend.

14 Aug 2020

Of course the reality is that gap between Mercedes and Verstappen was huge. Let's see if Red Bull turn the engine up in FP2 and shave a few tenths off that.

14 Aug 2020

FP1 was business as usual for Mercedes with Valtteri Bottas narrowly ahead of Lewis Hamilton. It was then just a measly nine tenths back to Max Verstappen.

14 Aug 2020

Hello and welcome back to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya! FP2 ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix is just 30 minutes away. All times are local.

15 Aug 2020

So the lunch break is out of the window for the Stewards, but you can grab a drink and a bite to eat before joining us for qualifying in a few hours. See you all soon!

15 Aug 2020

Little surprise to hear that the Stewards' are investigating that incident between Magnussen and Ocon. Hard to judge which way they are going to see it, could come down heavily on Magnussen or deem that Ocon was distracted and could have avoided the situation.

15 Aug 2020

Ocon finishes P11 after that late drama, followed by Vettel, Grosjean, Raikkonen, Norris, Kvyat, Magnussen, Giovinazzi, Russell and Latifi.

15 Aug 2020

Anyway that is session over. Another Mercedes one-two with Hamilton topping the session ahead of Bottas. Verstappen, Sainz, Perez, Leclerc, Gasly, Stroll, Albon and Ricciardo form the top 10 for this session.

15 Aug 2020

Red flag! Esteban Ocon crashes on the run down to Turn 4. Magnussen could be in trouble for this. He ovetook the Frenchman, then slowed right down, veered into the centre of the track into Ocon's path, causing him to brake, lose the car and go into the wall. Ocon perhaps was distracted though to not see it happening ahead of him sooner.

15 Aug 2020

Drivers are doing 2:30s on their cool-down laps, the FIA may need to look at a minimum lap time.

15 Aug 2020

Traffic doesn't help Verstappen there but he is still able to cut the gap to Hamilton to half a second.

15 Aug 2020

Still not a perfect final sector for Hamilton by any means, but a 1:17.222 is enough for P1. Meanwhile Mercedes tell his team-mate Bottas to drive in the shade created by the grandstand down the main straight to cool the tyres.

15 Aug 2020

George Russell brings some relief to Williams by going P12. The Grove outfit had been struggling so far in this session.

15 Aug 2020

Bottas cranks it up, improving by six tenths to a 1:17.3. Vettel has half a second to find on Leclerc after their latest runs.

15 Aug 2020

A solid effort from Sainz there, he sets a 1:18.0 to split the Mercs.

15 Aug 2020

Verstappen has another go on the same set of soft tyres, personal bests for him in the first two sectors and purple in the third to move within 0.189s of Bottas' time. How the Dutchman would love a gap that small later on in qualifying.

15 Aug 2020

Verstappen goes P3 on the softs, half a second slower than Bottas. Interestingly Verstappen hasn't qualified in the top three here before.

15 Aug 2020

Hamilton improves, going purple in the first sector, but he still has a tenth to find on Bottas.

15 Aug 2020

Plenty of oversteer for Bottas through the final corner and Hamilton gets the chicane totally wrong but Mercedes still go one-two. It's Bottas with a 1:17.971 and Hamilton 0.353s behind. Both times set on the softs.

15 Aug 2020

Leclerc is the first driver in this session into the 1:18s on the medium rubber. A 1:18.950 but there is plenty more to come from that Ferrari.

15 Aug 2020

Sainz goes purple in the first sector on the medium tyres and posts a 1:19.446 to go P1.

15 Aug 2020

Antonio Giovinazzi puts himself on the leaderboard, he goes P3 in his Alfa Romeo, over six tenths down on Norris and 0.7s slower than team-mate Kimi Raikkonen who goes P1. Both Alfas on the soft tyres.

15 Aug 2020
