PICS | From Bot River to Stilbaai with my trusty KLR bike, R12 000 and a few hiccups later

Finding a window in the unseasonal December deluge, adventure biker and News24 Motoring contributor Nick Yell takes us on a 556km surf and turf round trip from Bot River to Stilbaai.

Having recently wiped out my savings to get my old Kawasaki KLR back on the road — inlet valve replacements and refurbishing of its rear shock — I'm itching for payback.

I settle on combining two of my all-time favourite Southern Cape routes: Witsand to Stilbaai and Stilbaai to Suurbrak, the latter via the celebrated "57 bends" road to Riversdale and then on the dirt track through the spectacular "Land van Egiptyn" valley to Suurbrak.
