Max Verstappen may have just put the final trimmings on his bid to secure the 2021 Formula 1 drivers' championship. The Red Bull driver drove a brilliant race in Sunday's (24 October) United Stated Grand Prix to secure victory ahead of main title rival Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes.

What was especially telling about the win was that Hamilton was poised to take victory at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA), and it looked to be a done deal after Friday's opening practice. At the end of first practice, Hamilton and teammate Valtteri Bottas were almost 1.0 second clear of Verstappen, suggesting that it could be another walk in the park for the Silver Arrows.
