20 Jun

Thanks a lot for tuning in today and see you very soon!

20 Jun

The Austrian Grand Prix race weekend gets underway in just five days with the first two practice sessions. We'll be covering it all, so join us then and stick with us all the way through to race-day.

20 Jun

What's more, they're happening in the next two weeks! This triple-header business is great, isn't it?

20 Jun

And what a huge result it was for Red Bull. They now have comfortable leads in both standings and now have two home races in a row.

20 Jun

Well, you know a season is bloody good when it has a thrilling French Grand Prix. What a race that was!

20 Jun

The full result: Verstappen, Hamilton, Perez, Bottas, Norris, Ricciardo, Gasly, Alonso, Vettel, Stroll, Sainz, Russell, Tsunoda, Ocon, Giovinazzi, Leclerc, Raikkonen, Latifi, Schumacher, Mazepin.

20 Jun

Vettel and Stroll complete the top 10 with a very welcome double-points finish.

20 Jun

Gasly scored yet another good result, taking P7, while Alonso will be happy with P8.

20 Jun

It was an excellent day for McLaren, with Norris and Ricciardo crossing the line in P5 and P6. They're back up to P3 in the Constructors' Championship.

20 Jun

Bottas finishes very unhappily in P4.

20 Jun

Perez takes P3 and the stewards have cleared him of any wrongdoing. A double podium for Red Bull.

20 Jun

Hamilton has to settle for 2nd.

20 Jun

Max Verstappen wins the French Grand Prix!

20 Jun

Perez and Bottas are under investigation for their battle.

20 Jun

He dives down the inside at the second DRS zone! Huge move in the title fight!

20 Jun

Verstappen takes the lead!

20 Jun

Verstappen is within DRS range...

20 Jun

This is going to be very close...

20 Jun

Perez passes Bottas around the outside! Great move!

20 Jun

2.8 seconds between Hamilton and Verstappen now.

20 Jun

Perez is having a bit of trouble passing Bottas.

20 Jun

In response, Verstappen closes the gap by a second over one lap.

20 Jun

Verstappen isn't closing the gap to Hamilton anymore. The Brit looks comfortable.

20 Jun

Bottas: "Why the f*ck does nobody listen to me when I say this can't be a two-stopper? F*cking hell!"

20 Jun

Nine laps to go. Verstappen 4.5 behind Hamilton. Perez 2.3 behind Bottas.

20 Jun

He passes! Bottas held him off on the straight but then went too deep into the corner.

20 Jun

Verstappen within DRS range of the Finn...

20 Jun

Bottas says he has no front anymore. He'll surely be a sitting duck.

20 Jun

Verstappen is catching Hamilton by just over a second a lap right now.

20 Jun

Verstappen is 5.5 seconds off Bottas now. 13 laps to go.

20 Jun

The Dutchman has some issues on his radio and sounds like a beatboxing Dalek. My words, not his.

20 Jun

Perez lets Verstappen through. The two are both closing the gap to Hamilton and Bottas very quickly.

20 Jun

Not to jinx it, but we're actually having a good French Grand Prix. Who would have thought?

20 Jun

Ricciardo has let Norris through and the Brit is now P6.

20 Jun

Not yet. If they try to go the distance, we'll get quite the finish.

20 Jun

Verstappen pits! He puts on mediums. Expect Mercedes to follow suit.

20 Jun

The Mercedes drivers have both backed off to save their tyres.

20 Jun

The Aston Martins are in P5 and P6 and have yet to pit. If the rest have to pit again, this could turn into a great race for them.

20 Jun

Those two are also having a titanic battle, but Norris's fresher tyres are starting to give him an advantage.

20 Jun

After 16 laps, Leclerc's tyres are completely gone. Norris and Gasly have passed him now.

20 Jun

Hamilton also wants to do a two-stop. If the front three all have to, Perez could win this!

20 Jun

Ricciardo and Sainz have both passed Leclerc. Does the Monegasque have an issue?

20 Jun

Presumably, then, Verstappen thinks that, at this pace, his tyres won't last.

20 Jun

Verstappen: "We cannot keep this end until the end of the race, that's for sure."

20 Jun

Specifically, Perez is about 1.5 seconds faster than the top three.

20 Jun

Hamilton is the closest yet to Verstappen now with Bottas dropping back a bit. Perez is 17 seconds off this group but is already the fastest man on track.

20 Jun

Norris is doing a similar strategy and is now in P14 on fresh rubber.

20 Jun

The Mexican finally pits and rejoins in P4 with a hefty gap ahead of him. How quick can he be on these tyre?

20 Jun

Perez is the leader and is going long. He'll lose a lot of places but will have much fresher tyres than his rivals.

20 Jun

Verstappen and the Mercedes drivers are all within two seconds of eachother.

20 Jun

Red Bull have nailed their strategy there. Mercedes meanwhile haven't; why didn't they pit Hamilton when Verstappen came in?

20 Jun

It is! Verstappen takes the lead!

20 Jun

Hamilton pits. It may be tight between him and the other two...

20 Jun

Verstappen pits and just about stays ahead of Bottas. The gap has closed though. It's just one second now.

20 Jun

Sainz and Gasly both pit and come out behind Leclerc and Ricciardo! Yeah, the undercut is lethal here.

20 Jun

Bottas pits for hards and comes out in P4. The pit-lane is filling up now.

20 Jun

Ricciardo pits to do the undercut on Gasly but comes out behind Leclerc.

20 Jun

Hamilton is keeping the gap at around three seconds right now. Comfortable.

20 Jun

Leclerc then pits for hards and rejoins in P19 ahead of Nikita Mazepin.

20 Jun

Ricciardo passes Leclerc. He's having a great race.

20 Jun

Lots of drivers saying that tyre degradation is a lot higher than expected. Could some do a two-stop race?

20 Jun

Vettel uses DRS to pass Alonso and take P10. given he's on the hard tyre, things are going well for him.

20 Jun

Perez is suddenly picking up the pace. He has closed the gap to Bottas by about a second.

20 Jun

Riccardo passes Alonso with a lovely move! Norris then follows him through! The Alpine is struggling.

20 Jun

Hamilton complaining of graining on his front tyre, Bottas says his is fine.

20 Jun

In the top 10, the closest battle is the one for P8, with Alonso just about holding off Ricciardo at the moment.

20 Jun

Perez has dropped 4.5 seconds behind the Finn.

20 Jun

Bottas has been fastest for the last two laps and is within DRS range of Verstappen...

20 Jun

Perez meanwhile is having a bit of trouble keeping up with the top three.

20 Jun

Hamilton leads by 1.5 seconds but Verstappen has just gone purple.

20 Jun

Leclerc passes Alonso to take back P7.

20 Jun

Tsunoda started from the pit-lane but is already up to P17.

20 Jun

Norris has made the worst start, dropping down to P10 behind his team-mate.

20 Jun

Behind, Bottas and Perez hold position while Alonso gains two places.

20 Jun

And we're off! Verstappen makes a good start but goes off at Turn 2 and drops behind Hamilton!

20 Jun

The formation lap is underway. Here we go...

20 Jun

Right then, take your seats. Two minutes to go. At this point, there is a 10% chance of rain.

20 Jun

The start will be absolutely vital today. It may not be a street circuit, but overtaking is still very difficult here.

20 Jun

Crowds at the track really do ramp up pre-race excitement so much. Long may it continue.

20 Jun

La Marseillaise is up there with the best national anthems, isn't it? Made all the better by the fans in the stands.

20 Jun

All of the talk ahead of today has been about whether it will rain or not. So far, there are clouds in sight, but it looks more likely to stay dry.

20 Jun

Lewis Hamilton has said over the team radio that the brake magic button, the one he accidentally hit in Baku, has been trimmed down a bit too much. That's not ideal...

20 Jun

Sainz has gone off on his way to the grid and flat-spotted his tyres. Oh dear.

20 Jun

The full starting grid: Verstappen, Hamilton, Bottas, Perez, Sainz, Gasly, Leclerc, Norris, Alonso, Ricciardo, Ocon, Vettel, Giovinazzi, Russell, Schumacher, Latifi, Raikkonen, Mazepin, Stroll, Tsunoda.

20 Jun

Lando Norris, Fernando Alonso and Daniel Ricciardo complete the top 10.

20 Jun

Sainz was one of the most impressive drivers, qualifying ahead of the rest of the midfield. He and the other Ferrari of Charles Leclerc are separated by Pierre Gasly.

20 Jun

Verstappen's life will be made easier by the fact that he'll have his team-mate up with him from the start, with Sergio Perez starting in P4. As long as he doesn't lose a place and get stuck behind a slower car at the start, he'll fancy his chances of a p

20 Jun

Lewis Hamilton was the closest man to him and will start in P2 just ahead of team-mate Valtteri Bottas. Whether their car has better race pace than the Dutchman's is unclear, but it'll be close either way.

20 Jun

Given how the past two races went, Mercedes were expected to dominate here, but it was Max Verstappen who took pole position yesterday with a somewhat dominant display, going over two-tenths faster than anyone else.

20 Jun

With under an hour until lights out, let's run through the starting grid...

20 Jun

Hello and welcome to race day at the Paul Ricard circuit for the French Grand Prix. Join us for all the latest build-up from 1400 local time - one hour before the lights go out.

19 Jun

So, after one session, two cars have crashed out. Who said this circuit was forgiving?

19 Jun

That brings an end to qualifying, knocking out Latifi, Raikkonen, Mazepin and Stroll, the latter of whom never even set a lap time.

19 Jun

Red Flag! Schumacher has crashed in the second sector.

19 Jun

With three minutes left, Latifi, Raikkonen, Mazepin and Stroll will be going out with Tsunoda as it stands. Schumacher is in P14 ahead of Russell.

19 Jun

Hamilton's second lap is also much better and good enough to put him in P2, two-tenths off the leader. Given the tyres are older now, that's a good lap.

19 Jun

The Ferrari man improves on his second try and goes up to P11, just ahead of his team-mate.

19 Jun

Leclerc had a poor first lap and is down in P16. Stroll, Mazepin and Raikkonen join him in the drop zone.

19 Jun

Verstappen goes top with a 1:31.001 with Perez taking P2, half a second down.

19 Jun

Hamilton goes 0.23s slower.

19 Jun

Bottas goes top early on with a 1:31.669.

19 Jun

Right then, we're back underway again. 14 minutes to go.

19 Jun

He's out of the car and out of the session. Another poor day for the AlphaTauri man.

19 Jun

The damage doesn't look bad, but he can't get the car in gear.

19 Jun

He spun going through Turn 1 and went backwards into the barriers.

19 Jun

Red Flag already! Tsunoda has gone off.

19 Jun

Q1 is underway.

19 Jun

If anybody is likely to crash that party, it'll be the Alfa Romeo boys, who have looked strong all weekend.

19 Jun

All in all, things look pretty close between the two teams at the front, and it's the same in the midfield. On the whole, Alpine have looked strongest, but Ferrari and McLaren both had a car inside the top six this morning. They're undoubtedly the three f

19 Jun

The same question can be asked of Sergio Perez. While he was P4 in FP3, a place ahead of Hamilton, he has yet to get anywhere near his team-mate.

19 Jun

Valtteri Bottas did at least top FP1 and be the closest man to Verstappen in the next two practice sessions, but Lewis Hamilton hasn't looked as good. Has he been holding something back for qualifying, and is it just an off-weekend for the Brit?

19 Jun

That's because of a Dutchman by the name of Max. He topped both FP2 and FP3 and did so this morning by a considerable margin of 0.7s.

19 Jun

Before this weekend, we would all been pretty confident that we would see a Mercedes take pole this afternoon, but that's no longer the case...

19 Jun

No real surprises so far, the only one being Ocon going out in Q2 and Gasly making it through instead.

19 Jun

The drivers out: Ocon, Vettel, Giovinazzi, Russell, Schumacher.

19 Jun

That's Q2 done.

19 Jun

Ocon out.

19 Jun

Bottas goes purple.

19 Jun

Leclerc improves to take P9. Still not safe.

19 Jun

Norris has been told to box and so won't do another lap. He's currently P7...

19 Jun

Bottas is only P5 and might need to do another lap just to be safe.

19 Jun

After the first runs, Ocon, Vettel, Giovinazzi and Russell are in the drop zone.

19 Jun

Hamilton improves to take top spot. That'll be enough to take him through.

19 Jun

Alonso and Ocon go P7 and P9, with Leclerc splitting them

19 Jun

Perez goes P1 with a 1:30.971 while Verstappen takes P2 ahead of Sainz.

19 Jun

Bottas and Hamilton don't have good first laps, going P2 and P4.

19 Jun

Russell is the only man of the soft tyre. Mediums for everyone else.

19 Jun

Right then, time for Q2.

19 Jun

The race will get underway at 15:00 local time, and build-up will begin here an hour beforehand. Thanks for joining us today, and see you then.

19 Jun

There's an Aston Martin and an AlphaTauri starting at the back, and at the front, Verstappen starts ahead of two cars that could well have stronger race pace.

19 Jun

Well, races here may not have been the best in the past, but with that grid, things could change tomorrow.

19 Jun

The full starting order for tomorrow's race, barring any penalties: Verstappen, Hamilton, Bottas, Perez, Sainz, Gasly, Leclerc, Norris, Alonso, Ricciardo, Ocon, Vettel, Giovinazzi, Russell, Schumacher, Latifi, Raikkonen, Mazepin, Stroll, Tsunoda.

19 Jun

Norris takes P8 just ahead of Alonso and Ricciardo.

19 Jun

After taking two poles in a row, Leclerc will be a bit disappointed with P7.

19 Jun

Sainz takes P5 ahead of Gasly.

19 Jun

It's not! Hamilton takes P2 ahead of Bottas and Perez, 0.258s off Verstappen!

19 Jun

Verstappen improves. Is it enough?

19 Jun

Hamilton purple in sector one!

19 Jun

Gasly goes P4.

19 Jun

Red Bull's both improving...

19 Jun

Once again, Verstappen will be the first of the front four to cross the line.

19 Jun

Given the margin at the front, it would be a big shock if Verstappen doesn't end up on pole.

19 Jun

Cars heading out for their final runs now.

19 Jun

Sainz is the best of the rest ahead of Norris, Alonso, Leclerc and Ricciardo. Gasly had his time deleted.

19 Jun

Hamilton and Bottas go in P2 and P4, either side of Perez, but even the Brit is 0.4s off the Dutchman.

19 Jun

Perez goes half a second slower.

19 Jun

He does a 1:30.325 to go top.

19 Jun

Verstappen will be the first to complete a lap.

19 Jun

Q3 is underway. Who's your money on?

18 Jun

One session down, four to go. The next of them is coming up in two hours, so join us then.

18 Jun

The full finishing order: P1 Bottas, P2 Hamilton, P3 Verstappen, P4 Perez, P5 Ocon, P6 Ricciardo, P7 Alonso, P8 Gasly, P9 Norris, P10 Tsunoda, P11 Leclerc, P12 Giovinazzi, P13 Raikkonen. P14 Stroll, P15 Vettel, P16 Sainz, P17 Latifi, P18 Mazepin, P19 Schu

18 Jun

Gasly, Norris and Tsunoda complete the top 10.

18 Jun

Ocon made a strong start to his home race, finishing top of the midfield drivers. What's more, he had a decent gap to Ricciardo and Alonso behind him.

18 Jun

Verstappen takes P3 just behind Hamilton, with Perez in P4.

18 Jun

Bottas gets a much-needed good session in, topping it ahead of his team-mate by three-tenths.

18 Jun

That's that for FP1.

18 Jun

After repairs, Vettel has made it back out but is down in P15.

18 Jun

He doesn't stay there for long though as Ocon goes above him. The Frenchman is eight-tenths off the lead, which isn't a bad effort.

18 Jun

Ricciardo improves to move up to P5. His team-mate is three places lower.

18 Jun

It hasn't been a great morning for Ferrari, with Leclerc and Sainz down in P9 and P15.

18 Jun

The Mexican did use hard tyres rather than softs for his fastest lap though...

18 Jun

Perez meanwhile is a place ahead but is three-tenths off his team-mate.

18 Jun

Alonso is looking good, currently in P5.

18 Jun

Bottas goes three-tenths faster than his team-mate.

18 Jun

Hamilton goes top with a 1:33.783. Less than a tenth between him and Verstappen.

18 Jun

Mercedes aren't happy with the new curbs that have been installed, feeling that they're far too aggressive.

18 Jun

Looking at replays, clipped is a bit inaccurate actually. There was a fair bit of contact.

18 Jun

Vettel has gone flying through the run-off area and clipped the wall with the back of his car.

18 Jun

He improves by 1.5 seconds, while Hamilton goes P2.

18 Jun

Verstappen goes top with a 1:35.639.

18 Jun

The vast majority of drivers are starting off on hard tyres today.

18 Jun

An early yellow flag as Tsunoda goes off.

18 Jun

Roy Nissany is standing in for George Russell this morning.

18 Jun

Right then, FP1 is underway.

18 Jun

With all the run-off areas here, expect a slightly smoother weekend than the last two...

18 Jun

Max Verstappen meanwhile has finished P2 and P4 in the two races but will be aiming to go one better this weekend to give himself a real advantage in the title fight.

18 Jun

Indeed, they've won both of the two races here since the race returned to the calendar in 2018. Specifically, Lewis Hamilton has, in case you're wondering who the favourite is here...

18 Jun

After two circuits in a row at which Red Bull were stronger, Mercedes will be expecting to be back on top here.

18 Jun

So, after a year away, F1 is back at Paul Ricard this weekend, with things getting started in half an hour.

18 Jun

Hello and welcome to Paul Ricard for round seven of the 2021 World Championship. FP1 gets underway at 1130 local time and we'll have all the build-up from 1100. Join us then.

18 Jun

It will get underway at 15:00 local time after FP3 takes place at noon. Thanks for tuning in today and see you then.

18 Jun

Well, that's the first day of running at Paul Ricard done, and judging by it, we could actually have a battle on our hands for qualifying tomorrow.

18 Jun

The full result: Verstappen, Bottas, Hamilton, Alonso, Leclerc, Ocon, Gasly, Sainz, Raikkonen, Norris, Giovinazzi, Perez, Tsunoda, Ricciardo. Vettel, Stroll, Russell, Latifi, Schumacher, Mazepin.

18 Jun

Raikkonen and Norris complete the top 10.

18 Jun

The Spaniard and his team-mate were separated by Charles Leclerc, with Gasly in P7 ahead of the other Ferrari.

18 Jun

Alonso was perhaps the stand-out driver from the afternoon as he takes P4, a fair way ahead of the rest of the midfield.

18 Jun

Somewhat surprisingly, Verstappen finishes it in P1, just ahead of Bottas with Hamilton a further three-tenths down.

18 Jun

That's FP2 done and dusted.

18 Jun

These FIA radios are a brilliant addition to coverage. We've just heard Red Bull and Michael Masi argue about the yellow kerbs at Turn 2. Great entertainment.

18 Jun

Verstappen takes a trip onto the asphalt. He's struggling to find grip on his mediums.

18 Jun

Perez is doing longer runs now and his pace is much better than it was on the softs. He's quicker than Hamilton and Verstappen.

18 Jun

We've got a Noah's Arc situation at the bottom with two Aston Martins followed by two Williams followed by two Haas. Vettel's team haven't looked good here.

18 Jun

Perez hasn't had the best afternoon. He's currently occupying P12 and is heading back out on mediums.

18 Jun

Alonso has put in quite the lap to take P4. He's almost half a second up on Ocon.

18 Jun

Verstappen goes purple, just. He's 0.08s ahead of Bottas.

18 Jun

As does Hamilton. He goes P2, but is still 0.3s off Bottas.

18 Jun

Perez also doesn't improve on them, but Ocon does, moving up to P3.

18 Jun

Bottas has done a few laps on the soft tyre but hasn't improved. The mediums are looking the better compound at the moment.

18 Jun

There's been a Virtual Safety Car to clear some Red Bull bits from the track.

18 Jun

Perez goes P4 and Ocon P5, meaning the top five is exactly as it was this morning. Groundhog Day and all that.

18 Jun

Bottas has a big old lead over them though, four-tenths to be precise.

18 Jun

Hamilton and Verstappen go P2 and P3. Mediums are the tyre of choice throughout the grid at the moment.

18 Jun

Bottas gets things started with a 1:32.880.

18 Jun

We're off.

18 Jun

The only major incident to speak of came early on, with Sebastian Vettel hitting the wall and damaging the back of his car.

18 Jun

Behind them, Esteban Ocon finished as the best of the rest a fair way ahead of Daniel Ricciardo and Fernando Alonso.

18 Jun

Red Bull did at least claim the next two spots with Verstappen ahead of Perez. The Mexican didn't use the soft tyre much though, so there could be more to come from him.

18 Jun

As was expected, Mercedes looked strongest this morning, with Valtteri Bottas topping the session and Lewis Hamilton in P2.

18 Jun

Hello and welcome to live coverage of FP2 at the French Grand Prix! All times are local to Paul Ricard.

19 Jun

Join us back here for coverage of it in just over an hour's time. See you then

19 Jun

Judging by practice, qualifying is going to be a lot more interesting than we expected heading into this weekend.

19 Jun

The full result: Verstappen, Bottas, Sainz, Perez, Hamilton, Norris, Alonso, Ocon, Gasly, Ricciardo, Leclerc, Giovinazzi, Stroll, Vettel, Raikkonen, Russell, Tsunoda, Latifi, Schumacher, Mazepin.

19 Jun

Norris claims P6 with Gasly and the Alpines splitting him and his team-mate.

19 Jun

Verstappen tops the session with ease, with Bottas 0.7s behind in P2 and Hamilton over a second off the pace in P5, behind Sainz and Perez.

19 Jun

Well, Red Bull are going to be rather happy after that, and Mercedes a little worried.

19 Jun

The final practice session is over.

19 Jun

Norris improves late on to move ahead of the rest of the midfield.

19 Jun

Verstappen is back in the garage and out of the car. Clearly satisfied with his morning's work, and you can see why.

19 Jun

Sainz goes P3 while Perez improves by a lot to take P4 from Hamilton.

19 Jun

Verstappen goes top and by a long way! He is seven-tenths faster than anyone else.

19 Jun

Ricciardo meanwhile is now P4. It's been a great morning for him.

19 Jun

Hamilton improves to go between Bottas and Verstappen, 0.219s off his team-mate.

19 Jun

McLaren made some changes overnight and they look good so far. Ricciardo is in P6 and Norris in P9.

19 Jun

Ah, the Dutchman's lap has been deleted for track limits.

19 Jun

Bottas briefly retakes P1 before Verstappen goes 0.235s faster. He gains so much time in the final sector.

19 Jun

If Red Bull can beat Mercedes here, at one of the German team's best tracks, that'll be a serious display of superiority.

19 Jun

Verstappen puts in a rapid sector three to take top spot from Bottas by 0.09s.

19 Jun

Like yesterday, the Finn is quicker than his team-mate, and by eight-tenths too.

19 Jun

Hamilton and Bottas are out on softs doing their first laps...

19 Jun

Ricciardo splits the Alpines at the front.

19 Jun

The track is starting to get busy now.

19 Jun

Alonso goes half a second quicker.

19 Jun

He does a 1:33.775.

19 Jun

Perez has now joined him. He's on the soft tyre straightaway.

19 Jun

We finally have our first car out, after 12 minutes! It's Mazepin, and he has the track to himself.

19 Jun

A quiet start to the session to say the least. Many opted to stay in the garage at the start.

19 Jun

We're off.

19 Jun

Five minutes until green lights.

19 Jun

Arguably the biggest issue for drivers yesterday was the conditions, with some heavy winds and changing temperatures causing some real problems for them. If that's the same today, it could make qualifying interesting.

19 Jun

One of the biggest surprises of the day was Alfa Romeo, with Kimi Raikkonen finishing all the way up in P9 in FP3 and his team-mate in P11. They're aiming for their first Q3 appearance of the year today.

19 Jun

Further back, Alpine enjoyed a good day on home turf, looking the strongest of the midfield teams. McLaren and Ferrari meanwhile both had one good session and one bad session.

19 Jun

At the front, things were closer than expected. Mercedes were big favourites to dominate here, but while they secured a 1-2 finish in FP1, Max Verstappen topped FP2, giving Red Bull some hope.

19 Jun

Before the third and final practice session gets underway, here's what you need to know from yesterday.

19 Jun

Good morning and welcome back to the Paul Ricard on qualifying day. First up, we have one final hour of practice to complete, which begins at 1200 local time. We'll have all the build-up in 30 minutes' time.
