24 October 21:26

Lap 13/56: Verstappen has closed the gap to Hamilton quite drastically after his pitstop. Has the decision to not pit cost Hamilton and Mercedes?

24 October 21:27

Lap 14/46: Verstappen leads the race from Hamilton. The Mercedes just completed his first pitstop of the race.

Lap 24/56: Alonso has been ordered to give 11th place back to Giovinazzi. The Alpine driver secured the position after going off track.

24 October 21:49

Hamilton has really closed the gap to Verstappen. It's now under 3.0 seconds. Verstappen is complaining about the rear tyres...

24 October 21:52

Perez is having a rather lonely race. He is third, but 14 seconds behind Hamilton.

24 October 21:54

Lap 30/56: Verstappen comes into the pits and makes his second stop. He rejoins the race in third place behind Perez.

24 October 21:57

McLaren pits both drivers and manages to get the advantage over Ferrari's Sainz.

24 October 22:00

Leclerc makes his second pitstop and manages to stay ahead of Bottas. They are 4th and 5th respectively.

24 October 22:01

Lap 34/56: Verstappen is 15.7 seconds behind Hamilton.

24 October 22:04

Hamilton's pace is dropping a bit, creating opportunity for Verstappen to close the gap.

24 October 22:06

So far, the only driver to have exited the race is Pierre Gasly.

24 October 22:07

Lap 37/56: Hamilton comes in for his pitstop, 8 laps after Verstappen made his.

24 October 22:08

As we start lap 38, Hamilton will be chasing Verstappen to the end of the race.

24 October 22:14

Verstappen is struggling to clear the back markers, while Hamilton just posted the fastest lap of the race at the end of lap 41.

24 October 22:16

Raikkonen and Mazepin receive the black and white flag. They've been warned for not letting a faster driver pass.

24 October 22:22

24 October 22:30

Fernando Alonso retires from the race. Both he and Alpine teammate Esteban Ocon are out.

24 October 22:31

Verstappen completes a lap slightly faster than Hamilton. Was he holding back for a few a laps to preserve the tyres?

24 October 22:33

Verstappen has turned up the wick and is keeping Hamilton at bay - for the moment.

24 October 22:34

24 Oct

This incredible season will continue there in two weeks time, and the whole weekend will be covered here. Thanks very much for joining us today and we'll see you then.

24 Oct

He now leads Hamilton by 12 points heading south of the border to Mexico, where the high altitude has favoured Red Bull in the past...

24 Oct

Well, that may not have been one of the most spectacular races of the season, but it was certainly one of the best. What a battle. What a pair of drivers. And what a huge result for Verstappen.

24 Oct

The full result: Verstappen, Hamilton, Perez, Leclerc, Ricciardo, Bottas, Sainz, Norris, Tsunoda, Vettel, Giovinazzi, Stroll, Raikkonen, Russell, Latifi, Schumacher, Mazepin. Did not finish: Alonso, Ocon, Gasly.

24 Oct

Norris, Tsunoda and Vettel complete the top 10.

24 Oct

Bottas got past Sainz right at the end to take P6, which could be crucial in the Constructors' Championship.

24 Oct

Ricciardo crosses the line in P5 with one of his best drives of the year.

24 Oct

Leclerc takes P4 with ease. He was on another level to the rest of the midfield.

24 Oct

Perez completes the podium, taking his second P3 finish in a row.

24 Oct

Hamilton crosses the line a second behind.

24 Oct

Max Verstappen wins the United States Grand Prix!! That is massive!

24 Oct

Verstappen does a faster first sector! He's going to win this...

24 Oct

Final lap. Hamilton has DRS again.

24 Oct

Verstappen puts in a stunner of a sector to get the gap back up!

24 Oct

He's in DRS range!

24 Oct

It's now 1.1. Two laps to go and Hamilton is about to get DRS...

24 Oct

Hamilton gets the gap back down to 1.5s! What a battle this is.

24 Oct

Raikkonen goes off, costing Alfa Romeo a top-10 spot.

24 Oct

He's gone faster again! Where has he found this pace?!

24 Oct

Verstappen increased the gap by over a tenth in that last lap. That's crucial.

24 Oct

Alonso comes into the pits to retire with a rear-wing issue. Not a good day for Alpine.

24 Oct

It's down to 1.5s now. He'll be within DRS rate in two laps at this rate...

24 Oct

Hamilton seems to be struggling a bit in dirty air. The gap has stabilised at 1.8 seconds.

24 Oct

Eight laps to go. 1.8 seconds split the front two now...

24 Oct

Sainz has fallen behind Ricciardo and now has Bottas all over him. It looks like the Ferrari man damaged his wing.

24 Oct

Both have cleared the backmarkers...

24 Oct

He's closing the gap to the Dutchman by around four-tenths per lap at the moment... At that rate, he'll have a fair few laps to try and get ahead.

24 Oct

4.2 seconds between Verstappen and Hamilton now...

24 Oct

Sainz is all over Ricciardo and the two have touched. Was there much damage?

24 Oct

Raikkonen has been given a warning for not letting Verstappen through.

24 Oct

Ocon pits to retire with an issue.

24 Oct

He's finding some pace now though while Verstappen is stuck in traffic! The gap is down to six seconds!

24 Oct

Hamilton hasn't been able to close the gap in the first few laps... He's had issues getting through traffic.

24 Oct

"It's all about the last three laps," Mercedes tell Hamilton. Strap in...

24 Oct

Hamilton pits! it's a good stop and he comes out 8.7s behind Verstappen. He has just under 20 laps to close that gap...

24 Oct

This is a tough one for Mercedes. The longer Hamilton stays out, the closer Verstappen gets, but the fresher his tyres to attack with will be.

24 Oct

If Hamilton were to pit now, he'd come out six seconds behind Verstappen on much fresher tyres... This is going to get interesting.

24 Oct

Perez goes purple and is back in P3 with Leclerc pitting, The Mexican is 35 seconds off the lead though...

24 Oct

Both McLaren pits with Ricciardo rejoining three seconds ahead of Sainz and Norris six seconds behind.

24 Oct

Perez puts on hards and comes out in P4. Red Bull are asking both their drivers to go very long on those tyres...

24 Oct

Sainz pits and it's a poor stop. That'll hurt him in his tight fight with the McLarens...

24 Oct

Again, it looks like Hamilton will go a lot longer to have fresher rubber towards the end...

24 Oct

Just as I say that, Verstappen pits for hards and comes out just behind Perez.

24 Oct

The second pit window should be opening soon...

24 Oct

A brief Virtual Safety Car is brought out for debris but doesn't last for long.

24 Oct

The Dutchman responds, going half a second faster than his rival on the latest lap.

24 Oct

Hamilton is flying now. The gap to Verstappen is only 2.9s!

24 Oct

The Italian now has to give the place to the Spaniard after doing the same. Good fun...

24 Oct

Alonso and Giovinazzi are having a fantastic and feisty battle for P11. The Alpine did get past but had to give the place back as he went off track.

24 Oct

Sainz is all over the back of Ricciardo in the battle for P5. This is a big fight in the context of the Constructors' Championship...

24 Oct

Hamilton is starting to close the gap now. It's down to five seconds.

24 Oct

The gaps between the top three are staying stable at the moment, which suits Red Bull just fine.

24 Oct

Great racing between Alonso and Raikkonen, with barely a centimetre to separate them at Turn 1...

24 Oct

Hamilton trails Verstappen by 6.3s while he's five ahead of Perez.

24 Oct

Bottas puts on hards and comes back out in P11... Hamilton will be getting no help from him.

24 Oct

Gasly is going very slowly. He's reporting a suspension problem.

24 Oct

The chances are that everyone will have to pit again, which means Perez is in a good place behind on mediums now. He should have stronger pace than Hamilton.

24 Oct

Hamilton pits and rejoins over five seconds behind Verstappen! He now has fresher tyres though.

24 Oct

The Mexican will definitely have to pit again, while the others at the front can try to reach the end on hards, although that's a big ask.

24 Oct

Perez pits for mediums, interestingly. It's not a good stop but he still rejoins in P3.

24 Oct

Ricciardo and Sainz pit and both rejoin ahead of Norris.

24 Oct

Hamilton says his tyres are okay and stays out. He may lose the place to Verstappen, but he will have fresher tyres towards the end...

24 Oct

Verstappen pits! He puts on hards and, going by his pace, could well pull off the undercut. Hamilton needs to pit now unless he has a lot of pace he can produce...

24 Oct

Hamilton and Verstappen are starting to pick up the pace and leave Perez behind, although the Mexican could just be saving his tyres...

24 Oct

The Ferrari has taken the place back. He has been told by race control to give Norris the place back after a Lap 1 incident but is refusing...

24 Oct

Norris has passed Sainz to take P6.

24 Oct

Alonso pits for hards to try and do the undercut on Vettel and Russell.

24 Oct

"He's quicker than me right now."

24 Oct

The top three already have a big gap to the rest of the field. Perez is 3.4s off the lead and seven clear of Leclerc.

24 Oct

Bottas has dropped down to P10 with Gasly passing him. That's not what Mercedes need.

24 Oct

Ocon pits early for the hard tyre.

24 Oct

Verstappen has regrouped though and is within DRS range of the leader now...

24 Oct

Hamilton's start really was quite something. The perfect getaway.

24 Oct

Bottas hasn't had the ideal start with him still in P9.

24 Oct

Ricciardo takes P5 from Sainz with a great move around the outside!

24 Oct

The Dutchman managed to rejoin the track and stay ahead of his team-mate in P2.

24 Oct

And we're off! Hamilton flies off the line and pushes Verstappen wide at Turn 1 to take the lead!

24 Oct

The formation lap is underway. Here we go...

24 Oct

It does look like Gasly will indeed be starting, with his engine now fired up.

24 Oct

Tyre management will be key today, especially with the higher temperatures causing particularly high degradation. Sainz and Tsunoda are the only ones in the top 10 starting on softs...

24 Oct

Gasly has a power-unit issue... His team are gathered around his car on the grid.

24 Oct

The rendition of the national anthem is quite low key by American standards, from a musical perspective at least. There were some helicopters and parachuters above...

24 Oct

Further back, Bottas is the one to watch at the start. With Perez in such strong form, Mercedes need the Finn to get through the traffic quickly...

24 Oct

Hamilton will certainly fancy his chances of taking the lead at Turn 1 given he has the inside line. Verstappen needs a better getaway than the Brit if he wants to stay in front.

24 Oct

The big talking point is, of course, that front row featuring the two title contenders. a collision at the start wouldn't be in with drivers interests, but then again, it wasn't at Monza, and still happened there...

24 Oct

In case you missed qualifying and are a little confused by that grid, no, it wasn't a completely crazy session; Bottas, Vettel, Alonso and Russell all took grid penalties for changing engine parts.

24 Oct

The full starting grid: Verstappen, Hamilton, Perez, Leclerc, Sainz, Ricciardo, Norris, Gasly, Bottas, Tsunoda, Ocon, Giovinazzi, Stroll, Latifi, Raikkonen, Schumacher, Mazepin, Vettel, Alonso, Russell.

24 Oct

The AlphaTauris and Valtteri Bottas complete the top 10, with Pierre Gasly in front of Yuki Tsunoda and the Finn between them.

24 Oct

Behind the Monegasque is team-mate Carlos Sainz, who starts just ahead of the McLaren pair of Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris, led by the Aussie.

24 Oct

For the first time this season, Sergio Perez has been a match for the title rivals throughout the weekend and will start in P3 with Charles Leclerc in P4.

24 Oct

From an entertainment perspective, the front row of the grid couldn't be better, with Max Verstappen starting on pole and Lewis Hamilton alongside him...

24 Oct

As always, let's begin with a look at the starting grid...

24 Oct

All the live build-up coming your way in 15 minutes. Lights out follows at 1400 local time.

24 Oct

Good morning and welcome to a cold and grey Circuit of the Americas, conditions very different to Friday and Saturday.

23 Oct

After those runs, Red Bull very much look the favourites...

23 Oct

Q1 is done. Those out: Stroll, Latifi, Raikkonen, Schumacher, Mazepin.

23 Oct

The Aston Martin is out. That's a surprise.

23 Oct

Stroll in the drop zone now...

23 Oct

Alonso goes P14.

23 Oct

Kimi and Latifi are out.

23 Oct

Hamilton moves up to P6.

23 Oct

The Mercedes drivers are both heading out again, while the top five stay in the pits.

23 Oct

Perez goes 0.017s slower than the Dutchman.

23 Oct

Verstappen betters Ricciardo's time by 0.055s.

23 Oct

Everyone has now done a lap and those in the drop zone are Alonso, Latifi, Schumacher, Raikkonen and Mazepin.

23 Oct

Ricciardo goes purple with a 1:34.407 while Norris takes P3.

23 Oct

Bottas is 0.138s off Verstappen after his first lap while Hamilton is a further tenth and a half down.

23 Oct

Verstappen's first lap is a 1:34.521 while Perez goes just 0.054s slower.

23 Oct

Leclerc does a 1:35.281 to go seven-tenths faster than Stroll.

23 Oct

Right then, Q1 is underway.

23 Oct

Alonso, Vettel and Russell also have grid penalties for engine changes, so they may not be giving it their all today.

23 Oct

Staying within track limits will be absolutely key in this session. Going a few inches wide at one point could cost drivers lap times and a lot of places.

23 Oct

Instead, the Finn will probably start near the Ferraris and McLarens, both of whom look to be the best of the rest. Which one of them is stronger though is very much unclear.

23 Oct

Mercedes need a strong performance from Hamilton more than usual as his team-mate, Valtteri Bottas, has a grid penalty for changing an engine part and therefore won't start at the front tomorrow.

23 Oct

The Red Bull of Sergio Perez went fastest in FP2 and FP3, and while Lewis Hamilton did have his best time deleted in both sessions, said time was still a tenth down on Max Verstappen, which was also deleted, early today. Simply put, things look tight.

23 Oct

At the start of this weekend, we would've all expected Mercedes to take pole position fairly comfortably, but after practice, that's no longer the case.

23 Oct

Howdy and welcome to live coverage of qualifying for the United States Grand Prix! All times are local to Austin.

So, no real surprises in who makes it to Q3, but will the fight for pole produce one?

23 Oct

Those out: Ocon, Vettel, Giovinazzi, Alonso, Russell.

23 Oct

Nobody else can improve, meaning Ricciardo makes it through on mediums while Tsunoda takes the final spot.

23 Oct

Tsunoda knocks him out.

23 Oct

Ocon only P10...

23 Oct

Also on mediums, Ricciardo takes P9.

23 Oct

Perez stays on mediums and only goes P7 on his first lap. If he doesn't go again, he could be in danger...

23 Oct

Cars heading out for their final runs...

23 Oct

Russell, Vettel and Giovinazzi have also yet to set times, meaning Alonso is currently going through to Q3 despite his time being 13 seconds off the pace...

23 Oct

The Mexican is on mediums but may well think about using softs now that he really needs a good lap.

23 Oct

Norris, Leclerc and Bottas are behind them. Perez and Ricciardo had their times deleted for track limits.

23 Oct

Verstappen is top after the first runs, 0.333s ahead of Hamilton.

23 Oct

An interesting mix of tyres here. The Mercedes pair, Verstappen, Leclerc, Ocon and Gasly have mediums, while the rest are on softs.

23 Oct

Green lights for Q2.

24 Oct

The race will begin at 14:00 local time and coverage will begin here an hour beforehand. Enjoy the rest of your Saturday and see you then.

24 Oct

Well, we headed into this weekend thinking it was Hamilton's to lose, but if he is to take the win he really needs tomorrow, he'll have to put in quite the drive...

24 Oct

Still, the starting grid is interesting enough as it is. With penalties applied, it's as follows... Verstappen, Hamilton, Perez, Leclerc, Sainz, Ricciardo, Norris, Gasly, Bottas, Tsunoda, Ocon, Giovinazzi, Stroll, Latifi, Raikkonen, Schumacher, Mazepin,

24 Oct

It started to rain a little towards the end of the session. If that had come five minutes earlier, things would have gotten interesting...

24 Oct

Tsunoda couldn't get close to his team-mate, going nine-tenths slower.

24 Oct

Leclerc beats Sainz to P5 while Ricciardo beats Norris to P7.

24 Oct

So, pole for Verstappen. P2 for Hamilton. Turn 1 will be fun tomorrow...

24 Oct

Perez improves but not by enough to secure a front-row start. He'll start P3.

24 Oct

Verstappen goes two tenths faster!

24 Oct

He goes top by 0.061s! Bottaws can't improve.

24 Oct

Hamilton will be the first across the line...

24 Oct

The final laps are about to start...

24 Oct

Sainz is P5 after the first runs, a place ahead of Leclerc, with Ricciardo and Norris P7 and P8.

24 Oct

The fight for pole looks to be between the Red Bulls and it's a tight one. Can the Dutchman get back on top with his final lap?

24 Oct

Verstappen takes P1 by just under three tenths but Perez goes faster by 0.019s!

24 Oct

Bottas goes 0.089s faster.

24 Oct

Hamilton's first time is a 1:33.564.

24 Oct

Here we go then. Q3 has begun.

22 Oct

So, everyone has pretty much gone as expected so far. Will that change in FP2? We'll find out in just over two hours. Join us then.

22 Oct

The final order: Bottas, Hamilton, Verstappen, Leclerc, Sainz, Gasly, Perez, Norris, Giovinazzi, Raikkonen, Russell, Ocon, Stroll, Vettel, Alonso, Ricciardo, Latifi, Tsunoda, Schumacher, Mazepin.

22 Oct

Behind the usual suspects are the Ferrari, led by Leclerc, with Gasly and Perez just behind. The Mexican did a lot of running on the hard tyre though and did have his best lap deleted.

22 Oct

No surprises as Mercedes lock out the front row with Bottas ahead of Hamilton and Verstappen completing the top three.

22 Oct

Some incidents right at the end of the session as Kimi spins and Perez comes together with Schumacher.

22 Oct

Christian Horner says that 90% of the time Mercedes are gaining on Red Bull comes on the straights...

22 Oct

Alonso is back out on track after that issue at the start of the session.

22 Oct

So too are Ferrari, with Leclerc and Sainz P4 and P5, although Perez and Ricciardo did go faster but had their times deleted.

22 Oct

Bottas does a 1:34.874 to go top. Mercedes are looking strong here...

22 Oct

Perez also goes above his team-mate after putting on soft tyres but has his time deleted.

22 Oct

He doesn't stay there for long though as Hamilton takes P1 back with ease, going almost a second faster.

22 Oct

Verstappen takes top spot from his title rival by just over three-tenths of a second.

22 Oct

Leclerc takes P2, two tenths off Hamilton.

22 Oct

Vettel goes quickest but has his time deleted for exceeding track limits at Turn 9. We'll see a lot of that this weekend...

22 Oct

Hamilton goes four-tenths faster than anyone, doing a 1:36.381.

22 Oct

Vettel and Russell will also take grid penalties.

22 Oct

Mercedes have just confirmed that Valtteri Bottas will take a new ICE this weekend and will therefore have a grid penalty. that's not encouraging for Hamilton...

22 Oct

The track is definitely evolving, and pretty quickly. Perez has gone purple on hards while Ricciardo has taken P5 on mediums.

22 Oct

Norris and Gasly go P4 and P5, both on softs.

22 Oct

Leclerc goes off into the gravel but just about manages to keep it out of the wall.

22 Oct

Perez meanwhile is on hards and is P4, behind Bottas who is also on softs. The frontrunners not waiting around here.

22 Oct

Hamilton and Verstappen have both opted for softs and are P1 and P2 with 0.077s between them.

22 Oct

A real mix of tyres so far, with the soft, mediums and hards all being used.

22 Oct

That was a bit of a false start, wasn't it? We're back underway now, and hopefully for a bit longer this time...

22 Oct

There's definitely some fluid leaking from the bottom of the Alpine, that has now been removed from the circuit.

22 Oct

We already have a Red Flag with Fernando Alonso pulling over with an issue. Not the ideal start to his weekend.

22 Oct

Right then, let's get to it. FP1 is underway.

22 Oct

Since the last time F1 raced here, the cars have changed a lot and man drivers have moved to different teams, while the tyres will also behave differently. Given that, the practice sessions will be crucial.

22 Oct

Who will find their feet faster will be crucial in the context of the title fight with just six rounds to go, and getting to grips with the track could be tricky for everyone...

22 Oct

That being said, Verstappen is by no means poor here either, producing excellent displays on a number of occasions.

22 Oct

Mercedes head into it as favourites for a few reasons. For one, their record here is excellent, as is Lewis Hamilton's, while their strong straight-line speed will give them a big advantage.

22 Oct

It does feel great to be back in Austin, doesn't it? And if past years are anything to go by, we should have quite the weekend ahead of us.

22 Oct

Let's all have a big yeehaw and a welcome back to the Circuit of the Americas! The first practice session gets underway at 1130 local time and we'll have all the build-up from 1100.

22 Oct

FP3 will begin at 13:00 local time and we'll be covering it here from 30 minutes beforehand. Join us then.

22 Oct

We'll get a much better idea of how things really stand tomorrow in qualifying of course, but before that, we have one final practice session.

22 Oct

While Hamilton did do the fastest time in FP2 before it was deleted, Perez's best was a good lap too, and both the Mexican and Verstappen looked good on longer runs.

22 Oct

Well, after the earlier session, it felt like Mercedes would easily dominate all weekend, but that doesn't seem so certain now.

22 Oct

The finishing order: Perez, Norris, Hamilton, Bottas, Ricciardo, Stroll, Leclerc, Verstappen, Sainz, Giovinazzi, Ocon, Gasly, Alonso, Raikkonen, Vettel, Tsunoda, Schumacher, Latifi, Russell, Mazepin.

22 Oct

Verstappen meanwhile is down in P8, behind Stroll and Leclerc.

22 Oct

Perez ends the day on top ahead of Norris and Hamilton, with their team-mates completing the top five.

22 Oct

That's that for FP2.

22 Oct

It wasn't the best of sessions for the Spaniard prior to that either, with him down in P13. With the Aston Martin of Stroll up in P6, Alpine may be a little worried...

22 Oct

There's some damage to the back of the car but nothing too major.

22 Oct

Alonso has flown backwards into the barriers but has managed to get back to the pits.

22 Oct

Perez is the only man inside the top six that doesn't have a Mercedes engine. Make of that what you will...

22 Oct

The frontrunners are all on longer runs on the medium tyre, and Bottas is currently the fastest of them.

22 Oct

The battle for the best of the rest looks like a tight one this weekend with Norris and Ricciardo in P2 and P5 while Leclerc and Sainz are only P7 and P9. But this morning, Ferrari were a lot quicker...

22 Oct

The qualy runs are done and Verstappen wasn't able to complete a fast lap. Most are on longer race simulations now.

22 Oct

Verstappen is furious again, this time with his own team for releasing him into traffic. It hasn't been his afternoon so far...

22 Oct

So too is Ricciardo, who has just gone P4 while Norris takes P2.

22 Oct

Perez goes purple, four-tenths faster than Bottas. He's looking really comfortable in his car at this track.

22 Oct

No he's not. He has his time deleted for exceeding track limits.

22 Oct

Hamilton, Bottas and Stroll all go faster than Perez. The Brit is now top with a 1:34.842.

22 Oct

Plenty more drivers putting on soft tyres now, so expect those times to drop...

22 Oct

McLaren are looking stronger this afternoon. Norris is P5 and Ricciardo P8, with the Ferraris splitting them.

22 Oct

Everyone is currently on mediums asides from Ricciardo and Alonso, who are on softs, and Ocon and Mazepin, who are on hards.

22 Oct

Perez takes back P1 with a 1:35.716.

22 Oct

Hamilton dives down the inside of Verstappen, causing the Dutchman to call him a "stupid idiot" and give him the middle finger. They're starting early this weekend...

22 Oct

Bottas improves to take top spot by just over a tenth.

22 Oct

Verstappen squeezes in between the two Mercedes drivers. Tight.

22 Oct

Perez goes top early on with a 1:35.883, with Bottas and Hamilton 0.34s and 0.036s off respectively.

22 Oct

The majority of drivers, including the frontrunners, are starting the session on medium tyres.

22 Oct

FP2 is underway.

22 Oct

Expect Bottas to be the one focusing mainly on longer runs rather than qualy pace in the next hour and a half as, due an ICE change, he won't be starting near the front of the field regardless of how he does tomorrow.

22 Oct

One driver to keep an eye out is Sergio Perez. He may have finished down in P7 but he spent most of FP1 on the hard tyre and had strong pace on it. The Mexican also did a good lap on softs but had it deleted for track limits.

22 Oct

Behind the Dutchman was the two Ferrari drivers, with the Italian team looking strong, thanks in part to the straight-line speed their new and improved engine provides.

22 Oct

The first session of the weekend earlier today threw up no surprises with Mercedes locking out the front row. Valtteri Bottas took P1 ahead of Lewis Hamilton, and Max Verstappen was a second off the lead in P3...

22 Oct

Howdy and welcome to live coverage of the second practice session at the Circuit of the Americas. All times are local to Austin.

23 Oct

Q1 will start in just under two hours and it will all be covered here. See you then.

23 Oct

Well, we're going into qualifying fairly blind then. Going by the laps that were deleted, there's just a tenth to choose between Hamilton and Verstappen, while Perez is there or thereabouts too.

23 Oct

The full order: Perez, Sainz, Verstappen, Norris, Bottas, Hamilton, Ricciardo, Gasly, Leclerc, Ocon, Vettel, Russell, Raikkonen, Latifi, Giovinazzi, Stroll, Alonso, Tsunoda, Schumacher, Mazepin.

23 Oct

Completing the top 10 are Ricciardo, Gasly, Leclerc and Ocon.

23 Oct

Between the two title rivals are Norris and Bottas.

23 Oct

Verstappen and Perez both went faster, but it's Perez that ends the session in P1 ahead of Sainz, with the Dutchman and the Brit in P3 and P6.

23 Oct

That's that for FP3.

23 Oct

So, it looks like Perez will top the second session in a row. He may not have the outright pace of the title contenders, but staying with track limits is important too...

23 Oct

Hamilton also has a lap deleted, one that was around a tenth slower than Verstappen's effort. Things are looking close between Red Bull and Mercedes...

23 Oct

Verstappen goes three tenths faster than his team-mate but went just over the white line in the final sector and therefore has his time deleted.

23 Oct

Perez takes top spot with a 1:34.701. Hamilton and Verstappen will start their final qualifying simulations soon...

23 Oct

Norris goes P3. The times are starting to drop now.

23 Oct

He doesn't stay there for long though as Sainz goes top with a 1:34.805.

23 Oct

Bottas moves up to P2, 0.076s off Verstappen.

23 Oct

Understanding the softs is definitely the priority for everyone right now, with Gasly the only man on mediums.

23 Oct

It's interesting that quite a few drivers are able to improve on fairly old soft tyres. It looks like they're lasting longer than expected.

23 Oct

Verstappen improves by just under three tenths. This has been the ideal session for Red Bull.

23 Oct

Ferraris first few laps were stronger than McLaren, with Leclerc and Sainz in P4 and P5 while Ricciardo and Norris occupy P6 and P7. All are on softs.

23 Oct

Perez improves to go 0.001s slower than his team-mate. The Red Bull is looking very stable today.

23 Oct

Verstappen's first lap is a good one, putting him top by 0.364s. He was pushing the track limits though so could have it deleted...

23 Oct

Bottas has his time deleted, but Hamilton goes 0.62s faster than Perez to keep Mercedes at the top.

23 Oct

A bit of breaking news: Alonso will change all of his engine parts and will start from the back of the grid.

23 Oct

Checo goes fastest with a 1:35.633 before Bottas goes 0.77s quicker.

23 Oct

Things are getting busier now, with plenty of drivers heading out, including Perez and Bottas who are both on fresh softs...

23 Oct

Hamilton first effort is a 1:35.814.

23 Oct

Alonso does the first time of the day, a 1:40.977.

23 Oct

Hamilton is the next to leave the garage, also on softs. Just the 13 World Championships won between the three drivers out at the moment...

23 Oct

It's a quiet start to the day, with Alonso the only man to join Vettel on track at the moment. He's on softs.

23 Oct

The German has a new engine today and will be starting from the back of the grid tomorrow.

23 Oct

Vettel is the first man out and is on mediums.

23 Oct

FP3 is underway.

23 Oct

Speaking of McLaren, Daniel Ricciardo completed a few laps in his hero Dale Earnhardt's NASCAR car earlier today, as a reward for his win in Monza, which was very cool.

23 Oct

Behind the frontrunners, things are looking tight between Ferrari and McLaren, with the Italian team looking stronger in FP1 and the papaya cars in FP2.

23 Oct

Sergio Perez had no such issues, finding good pace on the hard tyre in FP1 and going fastest of anyone in FP2. If he can carry that form into today, things could get interesting...

23 Oct

It was a scruffy session for Max Verstappen too, who wasn't able to set a fast lap on softs due to traffic and lost his temper a bit when Hamilton overtook him on an out-lap.

23 Oct

Mercedes are the big favourite this weekend, but yesterday was far from the perfect day for them. While FP1 went smoothly, Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton were unhappy with their setup in FP2 and could only take P3 and P4. They'll need to find the righ

23 Oct

So, the teams and drivers have one more hour of running before the business end of the weekend, and they all have work to do in it.

23 Oct

Howdy there! Welcome to live coverage of the third and final practice session of the United States Grand Prix weekend! All times are local to Austin.
