Verstappen came away with the victory, the second in a row for the 2021 F1 drivers' champion. His earlier wins had come in Saudi Arabia and Italy.

08 May

Well, that Safety Car certainly brought some excitement to the first Miami GP, a venue which has great potential. The 2022 season rolls on though, and after a weekend off, Formula 1 returns to action at the Spanish Grand Prix. Make sure to join us for tha

08 May

Ricciardo finishes P11, Stroll P12, Tsunoda P13, Latifi P14, Schumacher P15 and Magnussen P16. Vettel, Gasly, Norris and Zhou fail to finish. Alonso has been noted for potentially leaving the track and gaining an advantage, it seems he went straight on th

08 May

So it is P4 for Perez, Russell P5, Hamilton P6, Bottas P7, Ocon P8, Alonso P9 and Albon completes the top 10, gaining another point for himself and Williams.

08 May

Leclerc takes P2, while Sainz fends off the Perez assault to complete the podium.

08 May

And that is that, Max Verstappen wins the inaugural Miami Grand Prix!

08 May

Correction from the FIA, it is Ricciardo and Schumacher being investigated.

08 May

Magnussen and Ricciardo are now being investigated, leaving the track at Turn 12 and gaining an advantage is the alleged offence.

08 May

With DRS Russell re-passes Hamilton around the outside, back into P5 he goes.

08 May

Vettel is in the pits too to retire. The collision is being investigated.

08 May

Either way, that incident is noted and Schumacher's hopes of first Formula 1 points here in Miami are done. He is in for a tyre and front-wing change.

08 May

Russell has let Hamilton back through, it seems he completed that pass not fully on the track so will wind up for a legitimate move. Vettel turns in on Schumacher at Turn 1 and gets a huge whack for that. "That's clearly my corner," says Schumacher.

08 May

Verstappen has turned up the engine to aid his defence against Leclerc. "Strategy has not been kind to me," says Hamilton. To be fair, Russell took the gamble and it paid off.

08 May

Perez fully sends it at Turn 1, but goes too deep and Sainz keeps P3. That will have taken a lot of life out of that front-right which he locked up.

08 May

No further investigation necessary for Magnussen and Stroll say the stewards.

08 May

Russell now has taken P5 from Hamilton. Bottas is also right on Hamilton's tail and out for vengeance after his wide moment and clip of the wall.

08 May

Leclerc takes a look at Turn 11, but there is no way past Verstappen.

08 May

Russell near enough pushing Hamilton there through the tight and technical corners. Russell tries to go around the outside but Hamilton defends at the hairpin. Bottas goes wide and lets both Mercedes through.

08 May

DRS has now been enabled.

08 May

Magnussen and Stroll are now being investigated.

08 May

Leclerc is fancying a move on Verstappen here for the lead.

08 May

Gasly is out of the race as a result of that Alonso contact. Schumacher is up to P9 and Ocon now P10 having started from the back. The stewards have noted a collision between Magnussen and Stroll.

08 May

Verstappen retains the lead, Perez is already all over Sainz.

08 May

Safety Car in this lap.

08 May

Lapped cars may now overtake the Safety Car.

08 May

That ship has sailed now for Hamilton, the pack has bunched up. He will surely struggle after the restart to keep Russell behind him.

08 May

Tsunoda and Gasly switch to softs too. Mercedes in fact came out for Hamilton twice to switch him to softs, but aborted both times. Hamilton is not sure on the call.

08 May

A five-second time penalty for Alonso after that Gasly contact.

08 May

Soft tyres for Ocon as well. Perez suddenly is in a good position on those fresh mediums once he closes up on the trio ahead of him. Ricciardo also pits for softs.

08 May

Perez pits again for mediums.

08 May

Norris is out of the car, the rear-right tyre is gone. Gasly had been going wide throughout the bends and didn't seem to see Norris coming through on the inside, resulting in contact. The full Safety Car is out now.

08 May

Russell's prayers are answered, he boxes for hard tyres and returns to the track in P7.

08 May

That is much bigger contact! Norris is out, the VSC is deployed.

08 May

Gasly and Alonso have made contact. Gasly is dropping back, he must have damage. Alonso looked down the inside and Gasly turned in. The stewards have noted that. It did seem very optimistic for Alonso to put the nose of his Alpine down the inside into Tur

08 May

Verstappen lays down a new marker for fastest lap, he wants the full 26 points.

08 May

Russell wants to keep going out there and hope for a Virtual or full Safety Car. Mercedes agree with their driver in P5 right now.

08 May

A little bit of rain is eight minutes away say Aston Martin. Looking at the cloud in question, it looks like more than a little bit of rain in the air.

08 May

Haas have now done the swap, Schumacher is up to P12 and crucially, Vettel is still behind two Haas'. Make that a McLaren as well now after a very wide moment from Vettel.

08 May

Leclerc now with the fastest lap, and by a margin of four-tenths, but he has over 7.5 seconds to find if he is to catch Verstappen.

08 May

Schumacher was hoping for a switcheroo, but Haas do not agree at this stage and keep Magnussen ahead. It would be risky with Vettel right on Schumacher's gearbox.

08 May

A 1:32.742 from Verstappen to set a new fastest lap.

08 May

Ricciardo pits, he is now P17 on hard tyres. Vettel pulls a pass on Magnussen and improves to P12.

08 May

Red Bull principal Christian Horner explained from the pit wall that it was a sensor issue for Perez, costing him 20 kilowatts, or 25 horsepower.

08 May

Verstappen takes back the fastest lap and provisionally the bonus point that comes with it. Hamilton has a very wide moment.

08 May

Leclerc pumps in a new fastest lap. Aston Martin meanwhile are rather ruining the race for Haas and Norris right now, having not yet made a stop.

08 May

Short and sweet, it is a very slow stop though for Sainz. 5.4 seconds he was stationary there. If Perez had not suffered those engine problems then, he would have been up into the podium places.

08 May

So, having not yet stopped, Sainz is leading in Miami.

08 May

Red Bull respond now with Verstappen, he switches to the hard tyre too. Just 2.4 seconds that stop!

08 May

"The car is so difficult to drive," Leclerc exclaims. How about a change of tyres then? He is in for the hard tyres.

08 May

Leclerc hits back on Verstappen with a fastest lap of his own.

08 May

In comes Hamilton, a tidy 2.7 second stop from the Mercedes crew.

08 May

Verstappen sets the new fastest lap of the race, he is 4.5 seconds ahead of Leclerc now.

08 May

Schumacher passes Norris now after he goes well wide, those hard tyres are not biting yet. "Fail 5 0" Perez is told. The power unit looks good again say Red Bull and Perez is now back up to speed, but it cost him about six seconds.

08 May

Oh no! Perez is losing power. He has fallen a long way back from Sainz.

08 May

Norris boxes now to ditch mediums for hard tyres. 3.6 seconds that one, a slightly tacky stop. Both Aston Martins and Magnussen quickly make overtakes.

08 May

Perez has now reeled in Sainz, he just lapped half a second faster than the Ferrari driver.

08 May

3.3-second stop for Gasly, so Alonso will need a new cunning plan to pass him.

08 May

That's a very slow stop for Alonso, 5.7 seconds, that is the end of his undercut hopes.

08 May

'Plan D' for Leclerc, D standing for 'delta'. Ferrari are going longer now that the graining phase seems to have passed.

08 May

Ricciardo gifts P11 to Russell there, he went so wide he was nearly in the Hard Rock Stadium itself!

08 May

Verstappen told he is doing a very good job of managing that front-right tyre, it is definitely advantage Red Bull at this stage.

08 May

Magnussen pulled a move on team-mate Schumacher but pits now for hard tyres.

08 May

Leclerc goes very wide at the penultimate turn, Verstappen has stretched his lead to 2.5 seconds.

08 May

Tsunoda is the first to pit, he drops to the back.

08 May

Ferrari tell Sainz that they are extending this first stint as far as they can.

08 May

Russell has improved to P14 and is now right on Tsunoda's tail. Those hard tyres seem to be coming to him now. Ricciardo had passed Tsunoda as the latter's difficult start to the Miami GP continues.

08 May

DRS helps, but Red Bull's advantage in a straight line means Leclerc can not get in a position to attack into Turn 1.

08 May

Leclerc is not ready to give this up though.

08 May

Leclerc struggles badly for traction and it is Verstappen into the lead of the Miami Grand Prix at Turn 1.

08 May

Red Bull tell Verstappen that they are starting to see some damage on Leclerc's front-right tyre. He is now within a second of the leader.

08 May

Zhou Guanyu is our first retirement in Miami. He is being wheeled back into the Alfa Romeo garage.

08 May

The AlphaTauris are not having a very fun start to this race, Schumacher and Magnussen have demoted Tsunoda to P12.

08 May

But no hold-ups this time, Hamilton is through, back into P6 now for the seven-time champ.

08 May

Hamilton is adamant he has some left-rear damage though. He is now right on the back of...oh dear, Pierre Gasly. Memories of Imola are still fresh.

08 May

Hamilton did indeed get quite the tap from Alonso at the start, wheel-to-wheel contact though fortunately, so no damage for either driver.

08 May

Hamilton has undone some of that damage though, he is past Alonso and up to P7.

08 May

Alonso is the biggest gainer at the start, up four positions, Hamilton complained of Alonso hitting him at the start though over the radio.

08 May

Russell is down to P15, starting on that hard tyre did backfire.

08 May

Hamilton has had a very tricky start, he has dropped behind Gasly and Alonso.

08 May

Leclerc leads, but Sainz is muscled out by Verstappen who is up to P2.

08 May

Russell though is going to start on the hard tyre, a risk considering he is already a bit bogged down there in the midfield. The Aston Martins, Latifi and Ocon are on that compound too.

08 May

Away we go for the formation lap. Looks like most drivers have gone with the medium tyre for the start.

08 May

It is a dry start then for the race, 57 laps await!

08 May

The grid is in place then, and the formation lap is fast approaching.

08 May

That's a strange one, the fuel is too cold over at Aston Martin, so to avoid a penalty, they are starting from the pit lane. Stroll was set to start P10 and Vettel P13.

08 May

Well then, it is not even lights out yet and the drama has started. It is time then to get your second screen set up, and Racing Statistics are on hand to help with that via their live watchalong: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJKatpqw1tw

08 May

Lance Stroll is on the grid, but with no Aston Martin car. He says he is not sure what the problem is yet.

08 May

Both Aston Martins are set to start from the pit lane, according to Sky Sports F1, what a nightmare!

08 May

Interestingly, neither Aston Martin is on the grid. They may well be stuck in the traffic of people!

08 May

Hamilton's team-mate George Russell was left confused as his Mercedes slipped away from its FP2-topping pace, to P12 on the grid. Could it be his turn to get stuck in the DRS train?

08 May

How Lewis Hamilton would love the rain to fall. A smoother qualifying this time around sees him start P6, he will be intent on quickly clearing former team-mate Bottas.

08 May

Anything could happen though this afternoon. Light rain showers continue to pass through pre-race. If any heavy ones arrive, then we could see some shock results.

08 May

Behind that Ferrari-Red Bull battle, it was a gap approaching half a second back to Valtteri Bottas, who put his Alfa Romeo an impressive P5 on the grid. He could well be in the podium conversation after showing some very strong race pace at Imola.

08 May

Sergio Perez will also have his eyes set on a first victory of the season, disappointed after qualifying but nonetheless in with a shout from P4 on the grid.

08 May

Red Bull's Max Verstappen did a remarkable job by claiming P3 on the grid, considering he missed nearly all of Friday practice, a serious amount of track time to lose at a new venue. He is very much a contender to make it back to back wins this afternoon.

08 May

Ferrari put themselves in prime position to enter the history books as the first team to win in Miami, Charles Leclerc starting from pole with Carlos Sainz P2 on the grid. But, with so many unknowns, there are surely many twists and turns to come.

08 May

Not long to go now then, in an hour, Formula 1 will be going racing in Miami for the first time.

08 May

Hello and welcome to Miami! Lights out is coming up from 1530 and we'll have all the build-up from 1430 local time. Join us then!

07 May

Magnussen then drops out in Q1, a disappointing qualifying for the Haas driver, Zhou is out too after getting held up badly by traffic. The Williams pair of Albon and Latifi, along with Ocon, join them in elimination.

07 May

Job done for Alonso though, he goes P6.

07 May

Alonso now finds himself in the drop zone, the pressure is on.

07 May

Hamilton delivers though, up to P5 he goes.

07 May

Hamilton is back on the attack, but has been forced to dodge some traffic.

07 May

Gasly goes P8, but Yuki Tsunoda delivers a P5 time in the other AlphaTauri. Impressive work.

07 May

Hamilton looks to squeeze past Alonso as he peels off into the pits, but there is no way through there. Mercedes will surely give him a fresh set of softs.

07 May

Hamilton has had his time deleted for track limits after going off at the chicane, so he finds himself in the drop zone with five minutes to go.

07 May

Ferrari bites back at Red Bull. It is a 1:29.4 for Leclerc, six-tenths faster than Sainz. Verstappen can not find an answer yet to that Leclerc lap.

07 May

A scruffy lap for Hamilton who is P12 after that.

07 May

Gasly has a time deleted for track limits as Russell goes P3.

07 May

Verstappen shatters that though with a 1:30.2. Perez goes P2. Verstappen does not look like a driver who missed nearly all of Friday practice.

07 May

Sainz sets the early pace on a 1:30.8.

07 May

Ocon, will of course be one of the five.

07 May

So, here we go. For the first time, qualifying for the Miami Grand Prix is underway. The slowest five drivers will be eliminated in this session.

07 May

There remains a scorching track temperature of 52c, so track evolution could play a vital role in qualifying if the clouds roll in again. We also know now that this track punishes drivers for even the slightest detours off the racing line.

07 May

Williams' Nicholas Latifi also needs a big improvement in qualifying, having propped up the FP3 standings, almost a second slower than team-mate Alex Albon who was flying high up in P9.

07 May

It was not a very successful FP3 for Mercedes though. Having surprisingly set the pace in FP2, hopes that the Silver Arrows had returned to form took a hit with Lewis Hamilton managing only P15 in FP3, while George Russell was P17. Both drivers certainly

07 May

Fortunately for Alpine, Fernando Alonso has been looking very strong throughout practice, signing off in P4, seven-tenths down on Perez's FP3-topping time. Sebastian Vettel was only 0.013s slower than Alonso in a very encouraging session for Aston Martin,

07 May

Speaking of crashes, we know that Alpine's Esteban Ocon will not be taking part in qualifying after crashing out of FP3, at the same place as where Sainz came a cropper over at Turn 14.

07 May

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc split the two Red Bulls, while Carlos Sainz, still looking to get back in the groove after that FP2 crash, managed only P7.

07 May

It is advantage Red Bull heading into qualifying. Sergio Perez topped FP3 as the track quickly evolved towards the end of the session, while Max Verstappen spun as he looked set to beat his team-mate's benchmark.

07 May

Hello and welcome back to Miami! The first-ever Formula 1 qualifying at the Miami International Autodrome is coming up in around 30 minutes. All times are local.

Tsunoda gives the wall a scrape, no harm done.

Sainz pips Leclerc early on, while Verstappen goes fastest by half a second. Verstappen though was on new softs, while Ferrari were on used.

07 May

Well then, are we all set for another Leclerc-Verstappen battle for the win? Or could either Sainz or Perez throw their name into the hat? Join us tomorrow to find out as we enter more unchartered territory and go racing in Miami for the first time.

07 May

Completing the grid will be Alonso in P11, Russell P12, Vettel P13, Ricciardo P14, Schumacher P15, Magnussen P16, Zhou P17, Albon P18, Latifi P19 and Ocon P20.

07 May

P5 on the grid for Bottas, Hamilton P6, Gasly P7, Norris P8, Tsunoda P9 and Stroll P10.

07 May

Ah right, Verstappen got all out of shape at Turn 6, and that was that. Verstappen starts P3 then ahead of Perez in P4.

07 May

It is Leclerc on pole, the first Miami Grand Prix polesitter! Sainz makes it a Ferrari front-row lockout. Verstappen was cruising slowly on that final lap, it is not clear what happened.

07 May

Here we go, time for those all-important final flying laps. Behind the Red Bull-Ferrari battle, Hamilton needs to improve if he wants to take P5 on the grid from former Mercedes team-mate Bottas.

07 May

0.08s covers Verstappen in P1 and the Ferrari duo of Leclerc and Sainz behind. Game on for the second runs!

07 May

It is provisional pole for Verstappen who goes into the 1:28s!

07 May

It is time for Q3, who will be the first-ever polesitter at the Miami Grand Prix?

06 May

Early indications are that Mercedes could be more of a force in qualifying on Saturday, but Red Bull and Ferrari still seem the most likely candidates for pole position. But six drivers in the mix would certainly be a prospect to savour! We'll be back wit

06 May

That's it for FP1. No showers materialised and there was no particularly clear pattern about which team has the early upper hand. But Mercedes won't be unhappy with Russell only 0.071sec off the fastest time.

06 May

Leclerc is back on top of the leaderboard ahead of George Russell in the Mercedes heading into the final minute of FP1.

06 May

Compare that to Nicholas Latifi in the other Williams...P20, 3.7 seconds off his team-mate's pace.

06 May

Whatever was troubling Red Bull is clearly an issue no more. Verstappen just beat the session's best time by over a second...until Alex Albon grabbed P2 in the Williams! That came out of nowhere.

06 May

Sainz locked up and spun at Turn 4, managed to avoid hitting anything but has sustained a slow puncture. Not what he needed after his troubles at Melbourne and Imola.

06 May

Cars are back out on the track, lights turned green with 16 minutes remaining.

06 May

During the stoppage, Ted Kravitz on Sky F1 is getting very excited about the new Mercedes front wing end plate. Whether it is that or the other new parts, they are having some kind of an effect so far - Hamilton is second fastest, only 21 thousandths of a

06 May

RED FLAG! Valtteri Bottas has hit the wall at Turn 7. "Sorry guys, I lost it, the rear," said the Finn to the Alfa Romeo team.

06 May

Drivers are finding the new circuit difficult. Leclerc just had a tricky time negotiating the chicane by the turnpike that leads towards the long back straight. Tsunoda clearly wants no distractions - he just gave his engineer short shrift over the radio

06 May

While Christian Horner was talking to Sky F1 from the pit wall, Verstappen was called back into the garage - and seemed perplexed. It appears the RB18 was getting a bit hot and Adrian Newey was taking a keen interest at the work going on, which suggests s

06 May

Leclerc, on medium tyres, has just gone fastest. It's a mixture of Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes - who have brought a variety of wing upgrades this weekend - at the top.

06 May

Sainz has had a near miss with Mick Schumacher that prompted an "oh my god" comment over the team radio from the Spaniard. American team Haas have not really got their session going properly so far.

06 May

Carlos Sainz, who has retired early from the last two races, is a man who needs a confidence-boosting strong weekend. He's made a good start, going top of the timesheet as the Ferrari duo have replaced Red Bull at the top of the pile.

06 May

'Porpoising' is less evident so far as teams run lower downforce. Weather is typically Floridian - it's hot, but there is a 40% chance of rain, which would surely be a short, very sharp shower.

06 May

Red Bull had a one-two in the last race at Imola and nine minutes into FP1, they already occupy the same positions again with Verstappen ahead of Sergio Perez.

06 May

World Champion Max Verstappen has just had his first minor brush with the wall, while Yuki Tsunoda has taken the AlphaTauri for a little spin. No damage done in either case.

06 May

Many drivers have spoken of how excited they are to be tackling this street circuit around the Hard Rock Stadium, and it will be fascinating to see how the weekend unfolds. And the fans seem to be loving the newly-installed beach club and marina!

06 May

The cars are out for the first time at the Miami International Autodrome on a blisteringly hot day in Florida. Just a reminder that it's Red Bull 2 Ferrari 2 so far this season, and specifically Max Verstappen 2 Charles Leclerc 2.

07 May

So that was day one in Miami. Lots to enjoy and this circuit should make the truly competitive action quite a spectacle. We'll be back on Saturday with FP3 and, of course, qualifying. Until then, sleep well and catch you then.

07 May

Apart from Mercedes, who else will be happy with their day's work? Alonso and Lando Norris mostly, you suspect. They looked the best outside of the top three teams in each session, followed by Pierre Gasly.

07 May

And that's the chequered flag. It's Russell at the top from Leclerc, who has just reported the Ferrari engine "is doing something weird in Turn 14 and 15".

07 May

Kevin Magnussen's just been off in the Haas at the same corner where Bottas hit the wall. On he goes though, and sits a very creditable 10th. A spin for Vettel too. "You're okay," says his race engineer. "Not sure the car is," replies Seb.

07 May

Verstappen's issue has been attributed to hydraulics. His running for the day is done. Meanwhile, another spin for Perez with Sebastian Vettel in close proximity, but the Mexican hot nothing and was able to continue.

07 May

It's go again with nine minutes left on the clock.

07 May

It's only a short hiatus this time and double waved yellows might have sufficed, but it is a street circuit and safety has to come first.

07 May

RED FLAG! Nicholas Latifi has stopped his Williams trackside. He suspects his left rear was not on properly and then lost drive.

07 May

The setting sun could be causing a few vision problems along the straight, as evidenced from the onboard from George Russell's Mercedes which is 'porpoising' again.

07 May

Meanwhile, Mercedes are taking advantage of Ferrari and Red Bull's FP2 woes. Russell and Lewis Hamilton sit in the top three, sandwiching Leclerc, as we head towards the last 20 minutes with the leading runners now on soft tyres.

07 May

Lance Stroll was also inconvenienced and had to run off track to avoid the very slow Verstappen. The stewards have exonerated the Dutchman though.

07 May

But Verstappen has a problem. He's struggling to steer the car and just held up Fernando Alonso in the Alpine, offering an apologetic wave to the Spaniard. The car's overheating brakes are being extinguished in the pit box.

07 May

Besides Verstappen and Bottas, Mick Schumacher has also not set a time in the Haas. He came back into the pits reporting a sidepod issue. Now Verstappen is out on track - Christian Horner says Red Bull "got lucky with the red flag and he's now only one ru

07 May

Session to resume at 17:59.

07 May

He had the fastest time too - even more galling for the 27-year-old. Sainz really needs a clean Saturday and Sunday and a good haul of points, otherwise the pressure will keep on building.

07 May

Sainz's dreadful run continues. He's in the barrier with too much damage to the left front to continue and is out of the car. A shocking run of form goes on for a man recently rewarded with an extended Ferrari contract after a strong start to the campaign

07 May

RED FLAG! Goodness me, it's Carlos Sainz again. "Sorry guys, I don't know what happened," says the Spaniard on team radio.

07 May

Alfa Romeo have tweeted that Bottas definitely won't be running in this session - no surprises there from the pictures we saw.

07 May

All drivers are out on the medium tyres for these longer runs and Sergio Perez has just had a minor spin at Turn 8. Ferrari have assumed their familiar 2022 place at the top of the timesheet.

07 May

The other driver with a question mark for FP2 was Valtteri Bottas, who had earlier caused a red flag by putting his Alfa Romeo into the barrier. The No 77 car is currently without an engine in the garage, so it is extremely unlikely we will be seeing the

07 May

Max Verstappen has had a precautionary gearbox change in his Red Bull, it has just emerged. There were some anxious faces in the garage during FP1 and it does not look like we will see the World Champion on track too early in this session.

07 May

Mercedes have brought a series of wing upgrades to Miami that may just be working a treat. It could be a three-way tussle between they, Ferrari and Red Bull for pole position on Saturday - and who knows, perhaps even the victory on Sunday.

07 May

Just to recap, once more this season it was Ferrari fastest through Charles Leclerc. But George Russell's pace in P2 for Mercedes was eye-catching - along with a terrific lap that put Alex Albon a surprising P7 in the Williams. That was good enough for se

07 May

So, it looks like normal order is resumed with Red Bull and Ferrari at the top. Mercedes though were definitely caught out by the rapid track evolution, so can they respond? Join us in a few hours for qualifying where we will find out.

07 May

Ricciardo has just been noted for a starting grid incident, allegedly not following the race director's notes.

07 May

It is P11 for Tsunoda, Stroll P12, Ricciardo P13, Bottas P14, Hamilton P15, Gasly P16, Russell P17, Zhou P18, Latifi P19 and Ocon P20.

07 May

Verstappen ends the session P3, though he was very much looking on for P1. Alonso ends FP3 in P4, Vettel P5, Schumacher P6, Sainz P7, Magnussen P8, Albon P9 and Norris P10.

07 May

Sainz can't trouble Perez, so it is the Mexican who tops FP3. Only P7 for Sainz after that last lap. A cracking lap there from Schumacher to go P6.

07 May

Leclerc improves to P2, but Perez remains on top. What can Sainz do?

07 May

So, the first question to Max in the media pen has to be 'what will be the winning lottery numbers?'

07 May

Verstappen was on for P1 there, but right now can thank his lucky stars that he isn't in the wall!

07 May

The session is drawing to an end a bit too soon here. Perez goes purple in the first and third sectors to go P1.

07 May

Some very interesting times being pumped in, Vettel goes P4 now in the Aston Martin, four-tenths down on Verstappen. He splits the Ferraris.

07 May

Hello Alex Albon! He pulls out a lap on the softs to briefly go P4. Ricciardo shuffles him down to P5 as the McLarens complete their first push laps on the soft tyre. Norris goes P6.

07 May

A 1:30.699 for Perez takes him P1, but Verstappen betters that by 0.05s to take over at the top. Red Bull have raised the bar on that soft rubber.

07 May

The Red Bulls are on a charge...

07 May

Hamilton improves to P5, but with a deficit of a second to Leclerc. Russell gets the better of Hamilton by 0.003s before reporting that "the tyres are nowhere".

07 May

Leclerc sneaks into the 1:30s on the softs, Verstappen is within four-tenths on the mediums.

07 May

Gasly sees the black and white flag for crossing the line at the pit exit.

07 May

Well saved Lando! That McLaren looked like it was heading straight for the wall.

07 May

An eventful few minutes for Verstappen, wide at Turn 1 and then not too happy with an Aston Martin which he felt got in the way.

07 May

Bottas with a very strong lap there, he goes P3 in the Alfa Romeo on the soft tyre, two-tenths up on Sainz with the same compound. Schumacher meanwhile boxes after setting some plastic stuck on the Haas.

07 May

A positive session for Haas' Mick Schumacher so far, up in P3 and two-tenths ahead of team-mate Kevin Magnussen, both running the soft rubber. Schumacher desperately needs a clean and competitive weekend.

07 May

The pit lane bursts into life as the drivers flood back out onto the circuit.

07 May

The track is back to green.

07 May

The challenge now for Alpine is to get Ocon's car repaired in time for Q1.

07 May

Ocon gets himself sat down in the back of the medical car as marshals set about clearing the scene.

07 May

That Alpine is in a bit of a mess on the left side, but Ocon thankfully is climbing out of the car unhurt. That was a big hit on that wall where there is no padding.

07 May

Red flag! Alpine's Esteban Ocon has done a Sainz, he is in the wall at Turn 14.

07 May

Leclerc shaves another half-a-second off his benchmark, but Verstappen then betters that by over three-tenths.

07 May

A 1:34.0 on the medium tyre from Verstappen is comfortably bettered by Leclerc's 1:32.2 on the softs. The times will ramp up significantly from here.

07 May

No surprise to see Verstappen out there straight away.

07 May

Here we go then, the light is green for the final hour of practice here in Miami.

07 May

Fernando Alonso was looking competitive again on Friday, finishing FP2 just over four-tenths down on Russell, so watch out for him in FP3. Can he keep up the pace?

07 May

Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton meanwhile, after the fun and games surrounding the jewellery scrutineering, needs full focus on the track as he looks to find the couple of tenths that he is lacking to Russell.

07 May

Both Verstappen and Sainz then desperately need a smooth run through FP3 at this brand new venue, one which is proving to be a big challenge for all drivers.

07 May

Max Verstappen lost a chunk of track time in FP1, prompting a gearbox change prior to FP2, while a fire near the rear-right brake wrecked his FP2. Ferrari's Carlos Sainz meanwhile suffered another costly crash, that bringing his FP2 to an early end.

07 May

Red Bull and Ferrari did not have such a smooth time of things, with issues for both teams.

07 May

It is Mercedes who go into the final practice session here in Miami with the advantage, after George Russell topped FP2, surprising even himself.

07 May

Welcome back to Miami for the third and final practice for the grand prix weekend.
