22 May

He desperately needs that curse to come to an end next weekend, so make sure to join us then for the Monaco Grand Prix!

22 May

Well then, who would have expected Red Bull to be the leading the Constructors' and Verstappen the Drivers' Championship after round six just a few races ago? Ferrari though were on for the win here in Barcelona, so will remain positive of a response. But

22 May

Outside of the top 10, Vettel finishes P11, Ricciardo P12, Gasly P13, Schumacher P14, Stroll P15, Latifi P16, Magnussen P17 and Albon P18. Zhou and Leclerc fail to finish.

22 May

"I'm happy for the team, but we need to speak later," says Perez. That will make for an interesting debrief, he is not happy with that order to give the win to his team-mate.

22 May

Sainz finishes P4, Hamilton also holds on and claims P5. Bottas P6, Ocon P7, Norris P8, Alonso P9 and Tsunoda P10 completes the top 10.

22 May

Perez makes it a Red Bull one-two, also taking the fastest lap bonus point. Russell makes it to the line to claim his second Mercedes podium.

22 May

Ahead of that though, Max Verstappen wins the Spanish Grand Prix! He now leads the Drivers' Championship.

22 May

"A water leak on the power unit," Mercedes are reporting.

22 May

Onto the final lap, Mercedes are trying to crawl to that P3 and P5 finish.

22 May

Sainz sails past Hamilton and into P4. Wolff is looking very glum in the Mercedes garage.

22 May

Oh no, a "DNF risk" for both Hamilton and Russell, they have been told to lift off, even if it means losing positions, "lift and coast".

22 May

Latifi passes Magnussen for P16, some positivity in what has been a difficult Spanish GP for Williams, certainly no repeat of Pastor Maldonado's heroics here a decade ago, who is actually in the Williams garage today.

22 May

Verstappen is cruising out front, how his afternoon turned around for the better.

22 May

And through Hamilton goes at Turn 1, using those fresher tyres to brake later and go around the outside.

22 May

Hamilton now has a great shot here of taking P4 from Sainz.

22 May

Bottas tells his Alfa Romeo team that the two-stopper was "a mistake".

22 May

Bottas sees the Ferrari of Sainz go through into Turn 1, while this time, Turn 4 is kind to Hamilton as he goes around the outside of his former team-mate. Sainz up to P4, Hamilton P5.

22 May

Perez has taken the fastest lap and bonus point away from Hamilton at this stage.

22 May

Alonso passes Schumacher for P9. Tsunoda also passes Schumacher, his first F1 point slips away again, for now.

22 May

A slow stop for Alonso, very slow, 5.9 seconds. He remains in the points though in P10.

22 May

Perez makes another stop, 2.5 seconds he was stationary as he switches to softs. Red Bull want to give him a shot at fastest lap.

22 May

Another stop for Norris, swapping softs for softs. Hamilton just set the fastest lap of the race and is flying.

22 May

Mercedes call Russell in to pit, his third stop of the race. He takes on the softs and will now need to reclaim his podium spot from Bottas.

22 May

So, if Verstappen goes on to win, he will be the new Drivers' Championship leader.

22 May

Hamilton has pitted for fresh softs.

22 May

Well, Verstappen was not clearly quicker, but Perez concedes the lead to Verstappen. "Thank you mate," says Verstappen on the radio.

22 May

Verstappen is closing in on Perez, Red Bull have told Perez to let him through if he is quicker. "That's very unfair, but okay," says Perez.

22 May

Leclerc says he had "no indication" of the incoming PU problem as he speaks from the paddock.

22 May

Sainz makes another pit stop.

22 May

Vettel gains his first place after that stop and improves to P13, making the pass on Gasly into Turn 1.

22 May

Hamilton is shown the black and white flag for track limits. He is running P6 now.

22 May

Verstappen is in. He goes onto the medium tyre after what is expected to be his final stop. Perez goes into the lead, Verstappen comes out ahead of Russell.

22 May

Vettel is into the pits for medium tyres, he will be chasing a point at least from this race.

22 May

Norris passes Vettel for P8. Vettel was the last of the drivers to pit.

22 May

"A power unit problem," struck Leclerc down, Ferrari confirmed.

22 May

Perez is not on a one stop then, he pits for new medium tyres. Verstappen leads, Perez is P2.

22 May

We were about to have Russell versus Verstappen, round two, but Russell peels off into the pits, taking on medium tyres.

22 May

A clean stop for Bottas, he returns to the track in P5 on the medium tyre.

22 May

A sluggish 3.9 second stop for Norris is far from ideal. Alonso meanwhile passes Tsunoda and moves into the points-paying positions, P10 for the driver who started last.

22 May

Make that P8 now that Tsunoda has pitted.

22 May

Hamilton has now worked his way back into the points in P9. It just shows, never give up!

22 May

A third stop for Sainz.

22 May

Verstappen passes Bottas around the outside of Turn 12, you don't see many overtakes there! Russell is next up the road, with Perez only 15 seconds ahead of Verstappen.

22 May

Zhou is out, it looks like another Ferrari power unit playing up.

22 May

Russell can't stop the Red Bull with working DRS, at Turn 1 Perez takes the lead of the Spanish Grand Prix.

22 May

Now it is Perez on the rear wing of Russell, going for the lead.

22 May

A gutted Leclerc goes around the Ferrari mechanics for consoling handshakes and hugs.

22 May

Verstappen pits for soft tyres, he is going for the undercut.

22 May

Stroll and Gasly collide, sending Stroll into a spin.

22 May

Suddenly Verstappen is fighting for the lead, he needs to think about the Championship though with Leclerc now scoring zero.

22 May

Leclerc pits, he is out, Russell leads the Spanish Grand Prix!

22 May

He has lost power, it was all going so well!

22 May

No, what's happened to Leclerc?!

22 May

Red Bull are not in the mood to accommodate Perez's request. The stewards will not investigate Russell's defence against Verstappen.

22 May

Never, never expected to hear that this season, any season.

22 May

"Get me Max out of the way so I can overtake quickly," Perez demands.

22 May

This battle has allowed Perez to join the conversation, he is nearly in DRS range of Verstappen. Horner suggests Russell did not leave Verstappen a car's width at Turn 4, the stewards have noted it.

22 May

DRS opened briefly for Verstappen down the straight, before closing again. He got a brief activation before the braking zone.

22 May

What a battle! Verstappen passes Russell at Turn 1, Russell fights back and muscles back into P2, Verstappen running out of space at Turn 4.

22 May

Hamilton pits again for medium tyres. He is P19 now.

22 May

Leclerc has a lead of just over 5.5 seconds after that stop. Verstappen gets rather heated when told that he may have closed the DRS himself on that last lap. "One button press," Horner reminds.

22 May

"Max, try using the DRS after your kerbing," Red Bull suggest.

22 May

In comes Leclerc, onto the mediums he goes. A 2.2-second stop!

22 May

A bit further back, Sainz is now running P7, while Hamilton is P16.

22 May

"Perez is on a one stop," Mercedes tell Russell. "Blimey!" is the response. This will be quite the achievement for Perez if he pulls this off.

22 May

Verstappen takes a bit of kerb and nearly loses the rear of the RB18. He needs to keep calm here or he will lose a lot more than a shot at Russell. He tries again into Turn 1, this time with DRS, but again no way through.

22 May

All of this is making life easy for Leclerc who now has a 30-second buffer, he still needs to make a first stop though.

22 May

In comes Perez, he moves on to the mediums.

22 May

DRS failed there for Verstappen on the run to Turn 10, it is like a lottery.

22 May

This time Verstappen has DRS, but Russell takes the inside line into Turn 1 and keeps P3.

22 May

It did not open down the main straight though, costing him an overtaking opportunity.

22 May

DRS opened there too for Verstappen on the run down to Turn 10. Russell now then is very much back in his sight.

22 May

Ah that ends that, Bottas is in. Verstappen is told that DRS worked on the in-lap, so it seems to be an intermittent issue.

22 May

Sainz has cleared Norris and is up to P9. For now, Bottas is getting his wish of running in the podium places, how he would love a Safety Car.

22 May

Russell and Verstappen are both in. 2.7 second stop for Russell, 2.6 for Verstappen.

22 May

A flurry of pit stops, Norris included who comes out just ahead of former McLaren team-mate Sainz.

22 May

Verstappen has problems with his DRS again, this will be a big issue if it continues, Russell is out of DRS range now just about.

22 May

Sainz is on the medium rubber now. "Why have I got a cool car warning?" Russell asks. "The warnings are real," Mercedes confirm.

22 May

Sainz pits, along with Alonso, Gasly and Zhou. Red Bull have moved Perez over so Verstappen is free to chase Russell.

22 May

Russell really is the hunted driver right now, Verstappen has latched on to Perez and the Brit.

22 May

Hang on, Verstappen now is in the gravel at Turn 4! Disaster. He is P4 now and behind Perez. It was just a big slide into the gravel. "Large gust at the entry into Turn 4 Max," says Red Bull.

22 May

Russell is under heavy pressure from Perez. Mercedes right now are struggling.

22 May

Joy for one Spaniard as Alonso makes the pass at Turn 1, for the other, Sainz is in the gravel at Turn 4! He gets going again but is down to P11. He simply spun the F1-75 off.

22 May

Here we go, Alonso is right on the rear of Vettel's Aston Martin and looking to take P13.

22 May

Schumacher is starting to struggle a little now, Ocon now passes the Haas driver and improves to P7.

22 May

"I would save this engine guys if I was you, I'm sorry." Hamilton already wants to retire. Mercedes tell him to stay out, believing P8 is possible.

22 May

Bottas has passed Schumacher for P6. The stewards say no further investigation is necessary for that Hamilton-Magnussen collision.

22 May

Ahead of that, the top five is Leclerc, Verstappen, Russell, Perez and Sainz.

22 May

Schumacher is up to P6 in the other Haas!

22 May

Magnussen looked to go around the outside of Hamilton at Turn 4, leading to the clash of wheels, the stewards are investigating.

22 May

Hamilton and Magnussen collided, sending Magnussen off into the gravel. Magnussen made it back onto the track but is running P20 and last. Hamilton pits for softs.

22 May

Hamilton has damage!

22 May

Lights out! Leclerc retains the lead, Russell gets a tag from Perez but is up to P3.

22 May

Away they go for the formation lap.

22 May

There is hot, then there is May 22 at the Spanish Grand Prix. A scorching air temperature of 36c. Every driver other than Hamilton starts on the soft tyre. Hamilton is on the mediums.

22 May

Great to see the stands absolutely packed here at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, let's hope they, and all of us are rewarded with a thrilling Spanish Grand Prix. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff smells a podium chance, let's see if they can deliver.

22 May

The cars and drivers are in position then, the formation lap is around eight minutes away.

22 May

Russell too expects a race dominated by tyre management, so stay tuned until the end, he reckons the last stint will be crucial. "It's going to be about management, and whether it's two or three stop. It's all going to come down to the last stint."

22 May

Explaining the situation on the grid, Red Bull's Christian Horner said: "We're constantly chasing weight. We're obviously taking some precautions, in consultation with the FIA." "Everyone is pushing the limits. I'm less worried about the wing, I'm more w

22 May

Red Bull look to be working on the DRS again on Verstappen's car. It cost him a shot at pole on Saturday. Just as Red Bull have started to reel Ferrari back in, the last thing they need is more costly reliability problems this afternoon.

22 May

There are two Spaniards readying for their home race, but while Sainz launches from P3, Fernando Alonso is starting from the back after taking his fourth engine of the season. This is a very difficult track to overtake on, but if anyone can do it and grab

22 May

Behind the three-team battle at the front which we are set to enjoy, Haas and McLaren will be looking for a double-points haul, while Valtteri Bottas is right in there for Alfa Romeo, starting P7. Could that podium target for Bottas be fulfilled here this

22 May

"Very hot inside of the cockpit," reports Russell on his lap to the grid. Feel like that will just come with the conditions today.

22 May

This is a race that is very much wide open. Starting P3, Carlos Sainz is desperate to take his first Formula 1 victory with his home crowd cheering him over the line. George Russell meanwhile has been the stronger-performing Mercedes this weekend, and sta

22 May

Ferrari may have more than just the Red Bulls to worry about as well. Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton, who has won the last five Spanish GPs, fancies a battle with Ferrari in this race.

22 May

Red Bull's Max Verstappen though, starting from P2, took a look at Ferrari's long runs in FP3 and thinks it will still be "tough" to beat them this afternoon, even if he does once again have an advantage in terms of tyre life. With the hot temperatures an

22 May

The long runs on Friday did not look great for Ferrari compared to Red Bull, the team having suffered with tyre degradation more than Red Bull at the last few rounds.

22 May

Over one lap, there was no beating Ferrari, Charles Leclerc recovering from a Q3 spin to storm his way to pole. But, over a race distance, the Scuderia had concerns.

22 May

It is race day here in Barcelona! In around an hour, it will be lights out, so let us set the scene before the action gets underway. All times are local.

21 May

"You must be kidding," Vettel exclaims when told he is P16 and out.

21 May

Both Aston Martins are out, even with those major upgrades. Fernando Alonso is out too in Q1 at his home race! The Williams pair join them in elimination.

21 May

Russell actually did make it to the line in time.

21 May

Flurry of final laps incoming, except for Russell, who will miss the flag.

21 May

Great to see that Haas has managed to get Schumacher out there, but he is down in P19 currently and in danger of elimination. Perez meanwhile has gone for a trip through the gravel at Turn 7.

21 May

And that incident will be investigated after the session.

21 May

P4 for Russell and P5 for Hamilton after those first runs for Mercedes. The Stroll-Norris incident has been noted by the stewards.

21 May

Carlos Sainz takes us into the 1:19s, his Ferrari team-mate Leclerc goes 0.031s further into that territory.

21 May

Verstappen comfortably betters than with a 1:20.0. Lando Norris meanwhile is not happy after Stroll is released into his path in the pit lane.

21 May

Perez is the first of the frontrunners to clock a time, it's a 1:20.4 on the softs. He gives Verstappen a nice slipstream down the straight to help his team-mate on his way.

21 May

Gasly is out there, that's the first job done then for AlphaTauri.

21 May

Here we go then, Q1 is underway. The slowest five drivers will be eliminated in this session.

21 May

Make sure to join Racing Statistics for their Spanish Grand Prix qualifying watchalong - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pjZ5rsWpW4.

21 May

It is a very busy pit lane pre-qualy. There are reports of a front wing flap repair on Leclerc's Ferrari, while Haas and AlphaTauri remain hard at work. Mick Schumacher's FP3 was wrecked by a rear-right brake fire, while a heat shield failure on Pierre Ga

21 May

With the top six covered by less than half a second in FP3, this could be the most driver-filled battle for pole yet.

21 May

It remained to be seen whether Mercedes could carry their Friday form into Saturday, but FP3 showed they could, George Russell finishing P3 and Hamilton P4. Crucially, Hamilton was only 0.24s down on Leclerc.

21 May

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc has all the momentum having topped the three practice sessions, but for the first time in 2022, it seems that Red Bull will not be Ferrari's only pole rival.

21 May

Welcome back to Barcelona everyone! Q1 is coming your way in 30 minutes. All times are local.

21 May

Verstappen ultimately takes P1 though on the new softs. Disaster for Norris though, his lap is deleted for track limits at Turn 12, so he drops back to P11 and is out. Ocon, Tsunoda, Gasly and Zhou are also eliminated. Schumacher makes Q3 for the first ti

21 May

On the fresh softs Sainz pips Russell by 0.017s to go P1.

21 May

Both Mercedes drivers and Leclerc have stayed in the garage, everyone else is going for another push lap.

21 May

So, with a few minutes to go, Gasly, Tsunoda, Zhou, Ocon and Ricciardo need better times to make Q3.

21 May

Ferrari and Red Bull are some way off, though Leclerc, Sainz and Verstappen all were on used softs it appeared.

21 May

Russell sets a 1:19.4 to go P1, that's three-tenths up on Hamilton, a very tidy lap.

21 May

Ah good, cars are heading out now, including both Ferraris. Was a bit worried no one had seen the green light.

21 May

Anyway, Q2 is underway! Who will make the top 10 shootout for pole?

21 May

No further investigation on that one.

21 May

Turn 14 impeding incident involving Alonso and Norris has been noted by the stewards from Q1.

21 May

But, can Red Bull capatalise? Further reliability issues cropped up there in Q3, costing Verstappen his shot at pole. Make sure to join us for the Spanish Grand Prix tomorrow, it promises to be an unpredictable race!

21 May

Well then, Leclerc has been dominant on a single lap, but, he was worried about the race pace, and that has been a struggle for Ferrari at the last two rounds. The scorching Barcelona heat certainly won't help.

21 May

Norris starts P11, Ocon P12, Tsunoda P13, Gasly P14, Zhou P15, Vettel P16, Alonso P17, Stroll P18, Albon P19 and Latifi P20.

21 May

Perez, Hamilton, Bottas, Magnussen, Ricciardo and Schumacher complete the top 10 on the grid.

21 May

It is Leclerc on pole for the Spanish Grand Prix! Verstappen starts P2. Sainz starts his home race from P3, sharing the second row with Russell who grabs P4 with a cracking lap.

21 May

And Verstappen has been told to box!

21 May

What a lap! Into the 1:18s for Leclerc, Verstappen says he has no power.

21 May

Time for Leclerc to have another go, can he deny Verstappen pole?

21 May

It is Verstappen then on provisional pole, 0.35s clear of Sainz. Russell and Hamilton have half a second to find to bring themselves into the conversation.

21 May

He lost the back end of the Ferrari into the chicane.

21 May

Leclerc has spun! He ducks into the pits to change tyres.

21 May

Here we go, Q3 time!

20 May

Thanks for reading and join us again at 17.00 track time for FP2.

20 May

And the first practice session of the Spanish Grand Prix draws to a close. Leclerc tops the timesheet with his team-mate Sainz behind him. Red Bull's Max Verstappen is in third.

20 May

Two minutes to go and Leclerc continues to top the timesheets.

20 May

For all the talk of the Aston Martin upgrades, they have yet to translate to on-track performance with Stroll in P12 and Vettel in P16.

20 May

Vips is out for the first time on soft tyres but stays in P20.

20 May

Verstappen is currently the meat in a Ferrari-Red Bull sandwich with Leclerc and Sainz above him and Russell and Hamilton below him in the timesheets.

20 May

Sainz is replaced at the top of the timesheet by his team-mate Leclerc.

20 May

In a promising sign for Mercedes, Russell and Hamilton occupy second and third respectively.

20 May

Norris moves to second fastest with Tsunoda behind him in third.

20 May

And we have a new leader in local favourite Carlos Sainz. He records a lap time of 1:19.907.

20 May

The other rookie De Vries goes fourth fastest on the soft tyre.

20 May

More than half the cars in the pits gives Vips a free run of the track. The rookie is currently last on the timing sheets.

20 May

Meanwhile on track it is still Verstappen who leads with Charles Leclerc and George Russell behind him.

20 May

Lance Stroll has been talking to Sky and denied the Aston Martin is a copy of the Red Bull.

20 May

Ocon is the latest driver with a problem as he heads into the pits complaining that the car doesn't turn.

20 May

Verstappen has a problem with his left wing mirror so is heading back into the pits.

20 May

Vettel is out of the car and in the garage for some reason.

20 May

After the opening five minutes, it's Max Verstappen who has gone quickest with a time of 1:23.163

20 May

And the cars are out on track with Sebastian Vettel leading the way.

20 May

A reminder that we will be having two rookies in an F1 practice session for the first time in the form of Nyck de Vries and Jüri Vips

20 May

Just 15 minutes until we start to see these heavily upgraded cars out on the track.

20 May

Welcome to the Circuit de Catalunya, the venue for round six of the 2022 F1 World Championship, the Spanish GP. Today also marks the start of F1's traditional development war.

20 May

So, could we have a six-driver battle for pole with Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull all involved? How fantastic that would be! Before qualifying though, there is one final hour of practice on Saturday, so make sure to join us for that.

20 May

It is P11 for Gasly, Magnussen P12, Stroll P13, Tsunoda P14, Ricciardo P15, Bottas P16, Zhou P17, Albon P18, Latifi P19 and Norris P20.

20 May

Verstappen, Alonso, Perez, Vettel, Ocon and Schumacher complete the top 10.

20 May

At the end of a very encouraging session for Mercedes, Russell is P2 and Hamilton P3, with Sainz in the other Ferrari P4.

20 May

And that is the end of FP2. Ferrari and Leclerc remain on top.

20 May

Perez misses the Turn 7 apex comfortably there and heads through the gravel.

20 May

Alonso is also looking threatening, up in P6 for this session and only half a second off Leclerc's benchmark, his long-run pace is also looking strong.

20 May

A bit of alpine skiing there for Leclerc as he clips a bollard going through the final chicane. Interestingly, the two Mercedes are the best-performing cars down the straight in this session.

20 May

So we are into the final 10 minutes of FP2, long runs continue to dominate.

20 May

That is the end of FP2 then for Norris, McLaren are reporting that the floor is broken.

20 May

It is an engine problem for Bottas, certainly not what the team wanted, they were craving a trouble-free weekend. McLaren meanwhile are taking the upgraded floor off Norris' car. Pierre Gasly is complaining of "going sideways" every time he hits the throt

20 May

And it is P3 for Hamilton, both of the Mercedes then look very much in the fight.

20 May

Russell shoots up to P2 on the softs.

20 May

"Check the floor, I ran quite wide at Turn 9," says Albon. The floor of that Williams certainly had a rough ride over the kerb.

20 May

Now it is the other Ferrari on top, Leclerc delivering a very handy 1:19.670, three-tenths faster than Sainz.

20 May

Some FIA housekeeping, Juri Vips and Fernando Alonso have reprimands after impeding in FP1. Welcome to Formula 1 Juri! Alonso judged to have impeded Hamilton, Vips the other Mercedes of Russell.

20 May

Sainz responds, a purple Sector 2 and Sector 3 sees him up to P1 on that soft tyre, 0.016s up on Verstappen.

20 May

Perez can't crack Vettel's time. Verstappen though comfortably goes P1 by seven-tenths. Red Bull won't be happy if Aston Martin manage to remain in those lofty places.

20 May

Perez now is ready to pump in a lap on the soft rubber.

20 May

Another date with the gravel for Norris.

20 May

Back to green.

20 May

"So dangerous this guy," Sainz exclaims as he comes across Nicholas Latifi at the apex.

20 May

Virtual Safety Car is out on the track, no red flags yet.

20 May

Valtteri Bottas has pulled over. "Something's broke," is the simple diagnosis. He is climbing out of the Alfa Romeo.

20 May

Norris is in the upgraded McLaren MCL36, Daniel Ricciardo is driving the old spec.

20 May

Lando Norris goes for a trip through the gravel after a big snap of understeer.

20 May

Verstappen is the early pacesetter after that first flurry of push laps, but those times will drop.

20 May

Much of the day so far has been dominated by Red Bull-Aston Martin talk, the former unhappy with the originality of Aston Martin's upgraded AMR22. Sebastian Vettel is on a flying lap in the AMR22 with the medium tyres.

20 May

Here we go, FP2 is underway!

20 May

20 May

FP1 saw some rookies get some action, Nyck de Vries over at Williams and Juri Vips getting a session at the wheel of the RB18. Alex Albon is back for this session at Williams, the same true for Sergio Perez over at Red Bull. Zhou Guanyu is back in the Alf

20 May

Lewis Hamilton managed only P6 in the other Mercedes, so will be looking for an improvement.

20 May

Meanwhile, a bouncing-free Mercedes was P4 in the FP1 standings, George Russell behind the wheel of that W13.

20 May

Red Bull's Max Verstappen ended the session P3, though was looking a good bet to top FP1 before that pesky traffic appeared.

20 May

In the opening round of the battle of the upgrades, that being FP1, Ferrari found themselves recording a one-two, Charles Leclerc topping the session ahead of the home hero Carlos Sainz.

Well then, a nice mix of Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes up at the top, let's hope that continues for the battle for pole. If it does, it could be the most exciting so far this season! Make sure to join us in a few hours' time as we start the qualifying bu

21 May

Ricciardo ends the session P11, Vettel P12, Alonso P13, Zhou P14, Tsunoda P15, Stroll P16, Albon P17, Latifi P18, Schumacher P19 and Gasly P20.

21 May

P4 for Hamilton, Sainz P5, Perez P6, Norris P7, Magnussen P8, Bottas P9 and Ocon P10.

21 May

And that is session over, a clean sweep of practice for Leclerc who ends FP3 on top. Verstappen is P2 and Russell P3.

21 May

Norris improves to P7, six-tenths adrift of Leclerc.

21 May

It is P2 for Verstappen, Hamilton has just gone P4. A Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes battle for pole please, please...please.

21 May

Verstappen is setting up for a lap now on fresh soft tyres.

21 May

Vettel goes P9 on his push lap with new softs.

21 May

And Russell goes P2 on that new set of softs, only 0.148s slower than Leclerc, that's more like it from Mercedes!

21 May

Hang on, Russell is looking good here!

21 May

The Ferraris are improving, Sainz briefly goes P1, before Leclerc goes three and a half-tenths faster.

21 May

Verstappen claims that the turn-in is "terrible" with the RB18 into Turn 5 and the chicane.

21 May

Hamilton is back out there with working DRS, though still has nine-tenths to find on Leclerc.

21 May

That Haas garage is pretty smokey as they still try to control the VF-22.

21 May

Verstappen slots into P2 after his first push lap on the softs.

21 May

Russell finds an extra tenth, but still, that gap to the front has grown again.

21 May

Gasly's issue is reported to be an overheating engine, that caused by a failure of the heat shield.

21 May

Verstappen now heads out onto the track.

21 May

Hamilton has a problem with DRS, Mercedes call him in to sort it out. His team-mate Russell has gone P3, but he is eight-tenths down on Leclerc.

21 May

Leclerc betters that by two-tenths, also on the soft rubber.

21 May

A 1:20.4 from Carlos Sainz on the soft tyre takes him up to P1.

21 May

Will Haas get that VF-22 ready for qualifying? Missing out would be the last thing Schumacher needs after an already difficult season so far.

21 May

Schumacher has a big fire on the rear-right brake! Thankfully Haas are there with the fire extinguisher as he returns to the pit lane. It seemed the fire started at Turn 9.

21 May

Valtteri Bottas is on top early, he will be desperate to make up for lost track time from Friday after that engine issue. Yuki Tsunoda meanwhile goes for a ride over the chicane kerb, AlphaTauri won't be wanting any more work to do!

21 May

The back of Pierre Gasly's AlphaTauri is smoking away, he returns to the pits and the AT03 is wheeled back into the garage.

21 May

The green light is on, FP3 begins!

21 May

All focus now though is on FP3. Make sure to join Racing Statistics for their live Spanish Grand Prix FP3 watchalong - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApvxZSsOJOw.

21 May

Judging from FP2, Aston Martin are not about to suddenly start challenging the front-runners, though with Sebastian Vettel only a second off the pace, they could well move to the front of the midfield.

21 May

But for all the on-track action, much of the talk so far in Barcelona has revolved around Aston Martin and their AMR22 redesign. Red Bull's Christian Horner said that an internal investigation is now underway at Red Bull, with multiple staff having transf

21 May

Despite Max Verstappen managing only P5 in FP2, Russell picked Red Bull out as the team to watch, believing that they and Ferrari had the engines turned right down.

21 May

Keep an eye on Mercedes in this session. Like in Miami, the Silver Arrows looked to be back in the mix after FP2, George Russell finishing P2, but it was on Saturday in Miami where it all went downhill again. Can they carry that performance into Saturday

21 May

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc topped both Friday sessions, but unhappy once more with Ferrari's long-run performance, he has one final hour of practice to try and get on top of that issue.

21 May

Hello and welcome back to Barcelona, FP3 is coming your way in 30 minutes, so stick with us for all the build-up and live session updates. All times are local.
