01 Aug

Thanks for joining us today, have a great August, and we'll see you at the end of it.

01 Aug

All of the drivers will probably be grateful they have a bit of a break after that. Specifically, they get a month off before the sport returns with the Belgian Grand Prix.

01 Aug

Well, what a way to end the first half of the season. That was one of the craziest races we've had in recent times.

01 Aug

And Hamilton's recovery drive means that he takes the lead of the championship heading into the summer break. He leads Verstappen by six points.

01 Aug

Vettel is a bit disappointed with P2, but it was a fantastic drive from him nonetheless.

01 Aug

Alonso waits for his team-mate and lofts him up in the air in celebration. What a team effort it was.

01 Aug

Verstappen scored the final point, and it could be an important one in the long run.

01 Aug

Ocon and Vettel both ran out of fuel and had to run back to Parc Ferme, making for some fantastic scenes.

01 Aug

Next up are the AlphaTauris and the Williams drivers, with the British team getting their first double-points finish since 2018!

01 Aug

Sainz just about holds off the Spaniard to secure P4.

01 Aug

Vettel and Hamilton cross the line right behind him. If not for Alonso, the Brit surely would have won.

01 Aug

Esteban Ocon wins the Hungarian Grand Prix!!

01 Aug

My oh my, Ocon is about to become a race winner...

01 Aug

Final lap...

01 Aug

Ocon leads Vettel by 1.4 seconds.

01 Aug

He's now eight seconds off the lead, so will probably have to settle for P3.

01 Aug

He takes P3 at Turn 1!

01 Aug

Hamilton now all over Sainz...

01 Aug

Alonso locks up at Turn 1 and Hamilton finally gets ahead!

01 Aug

Hamilton thinks Alonso was dangerous with his defending. In short, he wasn't.

01 Aug

At the front, Vettel is a second behind Ocon...

01 Aug

Again, Hamilton tries to pass Alonso three times but just can't get through!

01 Aug

Further back, Verstappen has passed Ricciardo to take P10. Given the damage he has, scoring a point is a good effort.

01 Aug

10 laps to go. Hamilton was expected to have caught Vettel at this point, but thanks to a certain Spaniard, is still in P5.

01 Aug

This is absolutely fantastic racing! Again, Alonso keeps Hamilton at bay!

01 Aug

Alonso could well give his team the win with this defending. Hamilton is losing a lot of time.

01 Aug

Hamilton tries twice to pass Alonso around the outside but the Alpine defends excellently!

01 Aug

Aston Martin expect Hamilton to catch Vettel with 10 laps to go...

01 Aug

While one Alpine defends, the other attacks, with Alonso all over Sainz.

01 Aug

Vettel so nearly passes Ocon at Turn 1 as they pass Raikkonen!

01 Aug

He pits! Mediums tyres are on and he's back out in P5. He now has just over 20 laps to charge back to the front.

01 Aug

Mind you, he's not exactly putting the pressure on Sainz, and has Alonso catching him...

01 Aug

"Tyres have got a second wind," says Hamilton. If he can make them last until the end, he could win this.

01 Aug

Alonso is absolutely flying and is quickly catching Sainz and Hamilton...

01 Aug

Verstappen pits for mediums. Now it's his turn to try and gain some places with an undercut...

01 Aug

Alonso finally pits from the lead, coming out in P5.

01 Aug

Hamilton is just eight seconds behind this fight, but he has much older tyres and may well have to pit again.

01 Aug

Ocon has no such issues and comes out just ahead of Vettel but the gap is tiny, the German had a stunning out-lap!

01 Aug

Vettel pits. It's not a good stop but not a disaster. He's now P3, behind Alonso who has yet to pit.

01 Aug

Russell passes Schumacher with a lovely move, and Ricciardo and Verstappen clear the Haas too soon afterwards.

01 Aug

Sainz pits and rejoins in P4 just ahead of Hamilton.

01 Aug

Hamilton passes Tsunoda around the outside of Turn 4!

01 Aug

Gasly pits and comes out in P8. That's gone well for him.

01 Aug

Next up for him is Tsunoda, who Red Bull will no doubt be telling to make his car as wide as possible.

01 Aug

Hamilton passes Latifi to take P7.

01 Aug

While Hamilton is flying, Verstappen is stuck behind Ricciardo who can't clear Russell.

01 Aug

He did lose a place though as Tsunoda pulled off the undercut.

01 Aug

Latifi pits from P3 and comes out ahead of Hamilton. Never thought I'd type that.

01 Aug

The Brit's out-lap was an absolutes stunner and earned him two places as he got ahead of Ricciardo and Verstappen. That's big.

01 Aug

Verstappen responds by doing the same and rejoins just behind Hamilton!

01 Aug

Hamilton pits for hards! He's going for the undercut on the rest of the field which makes sense given how hard it is to overtake.

01 Aug

Verstappen is missing his bargeboard on the right-hand side, which is very significant.

01 Aug

The Mercedes man is getting frustrated stuck behind Gasly...

01 Aug

Hamilton passes Schumacher to take P11. Gasly splits the title contenders.

01 Aug

Gasly passes the Haas man soon after, while Hamilton has made a mistake behind them.

01 Aug

Verstappen passes Schumacher around the outside of Turn 2! What a move!

01 Aug

Vettel is catching Ocon quickly at the front and is very nearly in DRS range...

01 Aug

Hamilton passes Giovinazzi to take P13 at Turn 1! Verstappen is still stuck in P11 stuck behind Schumacher...

01 Aug

Ocon leads by 1.7 seconds from Vettel, with a big gap to the rest of the field.

01 Aug

Verstappen is in P11 struggling to get past Schumacher. It looks like he still has some pretty serious damage.

01 Aug

Mazepin has retired after being hit by Raikkonen in the pit-lane.

01 Aug

Ocon leads with Vettel and Latifi behind him! This is insane.

01 Aug

Hamilton pits and rejoins in last! Keeping him out at the start was a shocker of a call!

01 Aug

He has a problem!

01 Aug

Russell has gotten himself up to P2 in the pits!

01 Aug

He starts from the grid on his own, with everyone else now leaving the pit-lane! What a crazy restart!

01 Aug

Hamilton stays out, but everyone else pits for slicks and will start from the pit-lane!

01 Aug

The cars are heading back out for a standing start. It's stopped raining and the track looks rather dry...

01 Aug

Nico Rosberg thinks the damage to the Red Bull will cost him half a second per lap. If so, he'll need the drive of his life to get a podium.

01 Aug

Red Bull are seeing whether a bit of tape really can fix anything. Verstappen's car is covered in it.

01 Aug

The race will restart in nine minutes.

01 Aug

Norris has been forced to retire due to damage. Five down...

01 Aug

Verstappen will restart the race in P13, if he can restart at all.

01 Aug

In the simplest of terms, Bottas and Stroll both went too deep at Turn 1, therefore taking out many cars.

01 Aug

The top 10 right now: Hamilton. Ocon, Vettel, Sainz, Tsunoda, Latifi, Alonso, Russell, Raikkonen, Schumacher. No, really...

01 Aug

That's very much needed for Verstappen who is missing a huge part of his floor. Can they patch things up during this stoppage? it's a big ask...

01 Aug

Red Flag!

01 Aug

Bottas and Perez have retired with damage, as have Leclerc and Stroll. Verstappen meanwhile has pitted and is in P13 but there's still a lot of damage to his car.

01 Aug

Bottas brake far too late, hit Norris who then hit Verstappen while the Finn hit Perez.

01 Aug

Safety Car!

01 Aug

Bottas hits the back of Norris before collecting Perez! Verstappen also got caught up in it and tumbled down!

01 Aug

And we're off! Hamilton and Verstappen fly off the lane but it's chaos behind!

01 Aug

The formation lap is underway. Here we go...

01 Aug

Intermediates for everyone.

01 Aug

Alfa Romeo expect the rain to stick around but remain fairly light, with a few isolated heavy spells.

01 Aug

Norris says it'll be slicks for the start. Will anybody risk going for wets? It could be worth a try for a backmarker...

01 Aug

Hamilton has won eight times here before, but a ninth today would be important than most of them. Not only could it give him the lead of the World Championship, but it would also be his 100th victory in F1.

01 Aug

With 20 minutes to go until the formation lap, it'll be touch and go when it comes to which tyres will be the right ones. Don't be surprised to see some drys and some wets.

01 Aug

Starting on wets or inters would benefit Red Bull you'd think. Mercedes's tyre advantage would be gone, and the pace deficit lessened too. Plus, we all know that Verstappen loves a wet track...

01 Aug

Christian Horner is helping Helmut Marko get the hood out of his raincoat, so yeah, it's getting wet.

01 Aug

Just as I say that, and just as the cars head to the grid, rain has started to fall... Well, this makes things interesting.

01 Aug

All of the below could be completely irrelevant because it looks like it's going to rain! The teams have been told a wet start is likely, and the clouds are looming above the circuit...

01 Aug

So, if it stays dry for the start, Mercedes will begin on mediums and Red Bull on softs. That means that the German team should comfortably be able to do one-stop races, while the Red Bulls will probably have to pit twice. Given that, you feel that if Ver

01 Aug

The full starting grid: Hamilton, Bottas, Verstappen, Perez, Gasly, Norris, Leclerc, Ocon, Alonso, Vettel, Ricciardo, Stroll, Raikkonen, Giovinazzi, Sainz, Tsunoda, Russell, Latifi, Mazepin, Schumacher.

01 Aug

Esteban Ocon out-qualified team-mate Fernando Alonso for the first time in a while to secure P8, while the Spaniard and Sebastian Vettel make up a rather illustrious fifth row.

01 Aug

Lining up behind the Red Bulls are two of the stand-out drivers of the season thus far, Pierre Gasly and Lando Norris. There was quite literally nothing to choose between their times and Charles Leclerc's, who starts P7.

01 Aug

The Red Bulls start just behind them after struggling for pace yesterday and, interestingly, both on the soft tyres, while the Mercedes pair are on mediums. We'll take a look at what that means in a minute...

01 Aug

Hungaroring expert Lewis Hamilton starts on pole position after going three-tenths faster than team-mate Valtteri Bottas in Q3. The Finn makes it an all-Mercedes front row.

01 Aug

For one last time in the first half of this season, here's a run-through of the starting grid...

01 Aug

Hello and welcome back to the Hungaroring for the final race before Formula 1 heads off on its summer holiday - the Hungarian Grand Prix. All the build-up is on the way ahead of lights out in one hour...

31 Jul

The main surprise there is that Tsunoda is out. His struggles continue.

31 Jul

Nor can any of the others, and that's that for Q1. Out: Tsunoda, Russell, Latifi, Mazepin, Schumacher.

31 Jul

Russell can't improve enough and is out.

31 Jul

Cars heading out for their second runs. Tsunoda, Russell, Latifi, Mazepin and Schumacher in the drop zone.

31 Jul

Perez has another go but can't improve. This isn't a good session for him.

31 Jul

Sainz goes P4 and Leclerc P7.

31 Jul

Alonso goes just ahead of the Red Bull.

31 Jul

Perez can only go P6, between the McLarens led by Norris.

31 Jul

Verstappen goes 0.210s quicker than his title rival. That's a good lap.

31 Jul

Bottas does a 1:16.610 to go top but not for long as Hamilton goes 0.186s faster.

31 Jul

That's not a good first lap from Tsunoda, who really needs a good session.

31 Jul

Raikkonen goes 0.2s faster.

31 Jul

Tsunoda sets the first time, a 1:18.163.

31 Jul

Right then, let's get into this.

31 Jul

Further back, Mick Schumacher will almost certainly start from the back of the grid after picking up a five-place penalty for a gearbox change following an FP3 crash, but his team are still trying to get him out for Q1.

31 Jul

They need to look over their shoulders too though because Alpine, McLaren and Pierre Gasly all fancy their chances of a top-six start themselves, while Aston Martin look decent.

31 Jul

One man firmly not in the mix was Sergio Perez, who has been battling with the midfield pack all weekend instead, and it's not a battle he's winning. Both Ferraris look strong and will fancy their chances of beating him this afternoon.

31 Jul

Max Verstappen topped FP1, Valtteri Bottas was fastest in FP2 and Lewis Hamilton took P1 this morning. The gaps between them weren't big in any of the three sessions either.

31 Jul

Well, probably. Why? Because so far this weekend, there has been nothing to choose between Red Bull and Mercedes.

31 Jul

Hello and welcome to live coverage of qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix! It's going to be a good one...

31 Jul

Perez goes P4 and Norris P2.

31 Jul

P7 for Ocon.

31 Jul

Verstappen takes top spot.

31 Jul

Gasly goes fastest!

31 Jul

Leclerc goes ahead of the Finn.

31 Jul

Bottas goes P2.

31 Jul

Perez playing it safe, using softs.

31 Jul

Bottas using mediums. Brave...

31 Jul

We're back underway.

31 Jul

Bottas and Perez have big decisions to make. Having to start on soft will hurt their race, but using mediums for their final Q2 laps is a big risk given they're P7 and P8 at the moment.

31 Jul

As it stands, Norris will be knocked out in Q2. He needs a good final lap.

31 Jul

The Spaniard spun and went sideways into the tyre wall. He's out.

31 Jul

Red Flag.

31 Jul

Leclerc takes P2 but Sainz crashes into the barriers at the final corner!

31 Jul

Ricciardo goes P9, just ahead of Norris.

31 Jul

P3 for Alonso, what a lap!

31 Jul

P7 for Norris.

31 Jul

Vettel and Gasly go ahead of Bottas and Perez.

31 Jul

Bottas is half a second down on Hamilton and Perez 0.7s off. Better from the Mexican, but still not great.

31 Jul

First blood to Hamilton who goes 0.216s faster than Verstappen.

31 Jul

Unsurprisingly, the Mercedes and Red Bull drivers are heading out on mediums.

31 Jul

Q2 is underway.

31 Jul

That was a bit of a concerning session for Ricciardo, with the Aussie finishing down in P14. He'll need much better form if he wants to make Q3.

31 Jul

The race will get underway at 15:00 local time, and we'll be here covering it from an hour beforehand. See you then.

31 Jul

That being said, on the soft tyres the Red Bulls should be a little quicker off the line. If they can get ahead at the start, things could get interesting...

31 Jul

It will indeed make him all the more keen to take his ninth victory at the track tomorrow, and it would take a brave man to bet against him doing so.

31 Jul

Things got a little awkward during the interviews there, with a large part of the crowd loudly booing Hamilton. He responded by saying that it fuelled him.

31 Jul

The full starting grid for the race: Hamilton, Bottas, Verstappen, Perez, Gasly, Norris, Leclerc, Ocon, Alonso, Vettel, Ricciardo, Stroll, Raikkonen, Giovinazzi, Sainz, Tsunoda, Russell, Latifi, Mazepin, Schumacher.

31 Jul

With Mercedes locking out the front row and starting on mediums, they have to be the big favourites for tomorrow now.

31 Jul

Bottas did a decent job, going quicker than Verstappen by just over a tenth to secure P2.

31 Jul

Gasly was the one man to improve significantly at the end, moving up to P5.

31 Jul

Indeed, there are no improvements, which means Hamilton takes pole position!

31 Jul

Nobody is improving. The track is slowing down.

31 Jul

Hamilton holds up the Red Bulls on his out-lap and Perez doesn't cross the line in time to do a final lap!

31 Jul

Everyone heading out for their final laps now...

31 Jul

Norris on the other hand didn't and is in P10 after the first runs.

31 Jul

Ocon had a great first lap and is P6, just ahead of Gasly and Alonso.

31 Jul

Perez takes P4, half a second down on Verstappen and just ahead of Leclerc.

31 Jul

Hamilton takes provisional pole by 0.315s! He's over half a second faster than Verstappen!

31 Jul

Bottas goes 0.250s faster.

31 Jul

He does a 1:15.984.

31 Jul

Verstappen the first of the frontrunners to start his lap...

31 Jul

Green lights for Q3.

31 Jul

Perez and Verstappen are both into Q3 safely, but both made it there by using softs, meaning they'll have to start on them tomorrow, unlike Mercedes.

30 Jul

Things will continue with FP2 in two hours time, join us then.

30 Jul

The full finishing order: Verstappen, Bottas, Hamilton, Sainz, Gasly, Alonso, Leclerc, Perez, Norris, Stroll, Ocon, Tsunoda, Vettel, Ricciardo, Russell, Latifi, Schumacher, Kubica, Mazepin, Giovinazzi.

30 Jul

Ferrari may well be strongest given that they also have Leclerc in P7, while the best McLaren could do was P8 courtesy of Norris.

30 Jul

How the midfield battle will pan out is anyone's guess with Sainz, Gasly and Alonso completing the top six.

30 Jul

It looks like there's nothing to choose between Red Bull and Mercedes, with Verstappen going fastest but both Bottas and Hamilton very close behind him.

30 Jul

Well, two words come to mind after that. Game. On.

30 Jul

FP1 is done and dusted.

30 Jul

Not much. He only goes P8.

30 Jul

What can Perez do?

30 Jul

He goes top with a 1:17.555, less than a tenth up on Bottas. Tight.

30 Jul

Verstappen doing his first laps on the softs.

30 Jul

We're back underway again.

30 Jul

He caught the kerb at Turn 4 and went backwards into the barriers.

30 Jul

Red Flag! Tsunoda has crashed.

30 Jul

Ferrari are looking decent, with Sainz and Leclerc going P3 and P6. McLaren meanwhile occupy P7 and P11.

30 Jul

More and more drivers doing qualy runs now with Gasly and Alonso going P3 and P4.

30 Jul

The Brit goes 0.380s slower than his team-mate. A Mercedes 1-2.

30 Jul

Bottas uses his softs to go fastest by 1.4 seconds. Hamilton is now on the same compound.

30 Jul

On hards, Esteban Ocon goes P2. That's a good effort.

30 Jul

Bottas is the first man to put on the softest compound.

30 Jul

Perez's first quick lap is good enough to put him in P4 behind Sainz. The Mexican is running hards.

30 Jul

Tsunoda then does the same soon afterwards.

30 Jul

Our first incident of the weekend comes courtesy of birthday boy Fernando Alonso who spins off and brings out yellow flags.

30 Jul

Bottas has now taken P2, going just six tenths slower than the Dutchman, while Norris has moved up to P3.

30 Jul

One thing to keep an eye on this morning is Verstappen's engine, with Red Bull trying to salvage the one that took a hell of a hit at Silverstone.

30 Jul

Hamilton responds by going just over a tenth slower. Both are on hards.

30 Jul

Verstappen does a 1:19.725 to go purple.

30 Jul

Hards and mediums all around to start off with, with no softs being used.

30 Jul

Pierre Gasly goes top early on with a 1:20.670 on the hard tyre.

30 Jul

One change from the usual grid this morning, with Robert Kubica filling in for Kimi Raikkonen.

30 Jul

Right then, let's get into it. FP1 is underway.

30 Jul

Ferrari and McLaren are locked in a tight fight for P3, while there is nothing to choose between the three teams below them.

30 Jul

Despite what the news of the last few weeks may have made it look like though, Red Bull and Mercedes aren't the only two teams in the sport, and behind them, things are far from dull.

30 Jul

The battle will be made all the more interesting by the fact that tensions are higher than ever between the two teams following Red Bull's attempt to get Hamilton punished further for his collision with Verstappen and Mercedes's claim that Christian Horne

30 Jul

Given his record at the Hungaroring - a record eight wins - the Mercedes man will fancy his chances of taking the lead in the standings this weekend, although Red Bull may well have the stronger car.

30 Jul

That's because, thanks to his win at Silverstone, coupled with Max Verstappen's DNF, Lewis Hamilton now trails his title rival by just eight points.

30 Jul

The race weekend gets underway in half an hour, and it's perhaps the most important one of the season thus far.

30 Jul

Hello and welcome to the Hungaroring for the Hungarian Grand Prix. The last race weekend before the summer break. Join us from 1100 local time for all the build-up to FP1, which begins 30 minutes later.

30 Jul

That being said, it feels like red Bull can find a lot more pace if they can find the right setup. They have one more chance to do so, tomorrow morning in FP3.

30 Jul

So, after day one of running, Mercedes head into the business end of the weekend as slight favourites.

30 Jul

The full order: Bottas, Hamilton, Verstappen, Ocon, Perez, Gasly, Alonso, Vettel, Norris, Stroll, Leclerc, Sainz, Ricciardo, Raikkonen, Russell, Latifi, Tsunoda, Schumacher, Giovinazzi, Mazepin.

30 Jul

Verstappen takes P3, three tenths down, with Ocon splitting him and the other Red Bull of Perez.

30 Jul

Bottas finishes on top, going faster than Hamilton for the second session in a row.

30 Jul

And with that, FP2 is over.

30 Jul

He manages to complete a flying lap too, going P17.

30 Jul

Tsunoda comes out with two minutes left. Well, better than nothing...

30 Jul

Verstappen isn't happy with his setup at all, complaining about the rear on the radio.

30 Jul

Andreas Seidl has confirmed that McLaren are running upgrades this weekend. Norris and Ricciardo are currently P9 and P13.

30 Jul

The track is filling up again, with most running mediums.

30 Jul

That's probably it for the qualifying simulations though, and Red Bull won't be happy with how they went.

30 Jul

A bit of a lull now as cars wait to head out for their final runs.

30 Jul

Perez goes P5, with Ocon splitting them.

30 Jul

Verstappen's first lap on softs is a fairly poor one and only good enough for P3, three tenths off the lead.

30 Jul

Times dropping rapidly now as drivers use the soft tyres. Gasly goes top briefly before Bottas and Hamilton return to P1 and P2.

30 Jul

His team-mate does even better, with Vettel going P2. Presumably, they're running low fuel modes.

30 Jul

Just as I say that, Stroll moves up to P4 with an excellent lap.

30 Jul

Alonso is looking on top of his game here. He's up in P5, ahead of the rest of the midfield.

30 Jul

Hamilton improves to take top spot by a tenth.

30 Jul

There is still some repair work going on in the AlphaTauri garage following Tsunoda's morning crash, but he should be able to make it out.

30 Jul

Perez meanwhile goes P4, three-tenths down on his team-mate.

30 Jul

Verstappen's first flying lap is a decent one, putting him between the Mercedes pair.

30 Jul

It's very, very toasty out there, with a track temperature of 63'C. That would melt my shoes for sure.

30 Jul

Hamilton goes three-tenths slower to take P2.

30 Jul

On mediums, Bottas goes top with a 1:18.376.

30 Jul

Mediums for most to start with, with a few on hards.

30 Jul

The Alpines setting the early pace with Alonso and Ocon going P1 and P2.

30 Jul

We're up and running in FP2.

30 Jul

As is always the case, FP2 holds a particular importance as it is the only practice session to take place at the same time of day as qualifying and the race. Given that, teams will be aiming to get used to the very high temperatures this afternoon.

30 Jul

Asides from the Japanese driver, the grid looked to get to grips with the circuit fairly quickly with no other major incidents of note.

30 Jul

While Gasly finished in P5, it wasn't the best of mornings for AlphaTauri as Yuki Tsunoda added to his long list of crashes in his rookie season, bringing out a Red Flag

30 Jul

Things look equally tight behind them, with Ferrari, McLaren, Aston Martin, AlphaTauri and Alpine all finishing with cars inside the top 10.

30 Jul

The battle between Red Bull and Mercedes will be a very tight one this weekend judging by how this morning went. Max Verstappen topped the session but both Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton were around just a tenth down on him.

30 Jul

Hello and welcome to live coverage of FP2 of the Hungarian Grand Prix. All times are local to Budapest.

31 Jul

Join us in just over an hour for live coverage of it all.

31 Jul

After that, it's fair to say that you really don't want to miss qualifying, with it looking like we're going to have a titanic battle for pole position.

31 Jul

The full result: Hamilton, Verstappen, Bottas, Sainz, Leclerc, Norris, Perez, Ricciardo, Alonso, Stroll, Gasly, Ocon, Vettel, Tsunoda, Raikkonen, Russell, Latifi, Giovinazzi, Schumacher, Mazepin.

31 Jul

It was a better session for McLaren too with Norris and Ricciardo P6 and P8. Alonso and Stroll complete the top 10.

31 Jul

Ferrari seem in good shape behind the front three, with both drivers faster than Perez, who seriously needs to step things up in qualifying.

31 Jul

Much like yesterday, things are looking very tight at the top. Hamilton tops the session, less than a tenth faster than Verstappen, while Bottas is less than a tenth off the Dutchman.

31 Jul

That's that for FP3.

31 Jul

Ferrari are sitting pretty in P4 and P5 at the moment, just ahead of Norris. Perez is behind them all and only just faster than Ricciardo.

31 Jul

He doesn't stay there for long as Hamilton goes 0.88s faster.

31 Jul

Verstappen goes purple, doing a 1:16.914.

31 Jul

Some action in the pit-lane as Giovinazzi is released just as Stroll is passing. He thankfully slows down enough to avoid a big collision, but he still hits the rear of the Aston Martin.

31 Jul

We're back underway. 10 minutes left.

31 Jul

Just before the crash, Bottas improved to extend his lead while Sainz went P2.

31 Jul

He hit the barriers sideways, meaning the front and back of the car both picked up damage.

31 Jul

He went off at Turn 11 and went into the barriers at high speed. It will be a struggle to get that car ready for qualifying.

31 Jul

Red Flag! Schumacher has crashed out.

31 Jul

Leclerc goes two-tenths faster than the Frenchman. At this rate, he could challenge Perez in qualifying later.

31 Jul

Gasly is in P5 at the moment, just ahead of the Ferrari pair.

31 Jul

Perez improves to move up to P4, less than a tenth down on Hamilton. Still a big gap to the front two though.

31 Jul

Bottas quickly moves up to P1 himself though, doing a 1:17.428. He continues to look the best of the frontrunners.

31 Jul

Verstappen is much, much quicker. He does a 1:17.510 to go top by a big margin.

31 Jul

He can only P4, six-tenths off Hamilton. The Ferraris split them.

31 Jul

Perez doing his first run on softs.

31 Jul

Hamilton goes top with a 1:18.587 but it was a scruffy lap. He didn't find much grip.

31 Jul

The Mercedes drivers are out and have softs fitted.

31 Jul

Sainz, on the same tyre, goes faster. He's running a new engine today after Ferrari made a late-night change.

31 Jul

He goes top early on with a 1:20.790 on mediums.

31 Jul

Joining them is Tsunoda, unsurprisingly. He needs all the track time he can get after only completing one lap in FP2 due to his FP1 crash.

31 Jul

The Haas drivers are the first out.

31 Jul

FP3 is underway.

31 Jul

The teams and drivers alike will be happy to see that it has cooled down a bit after yesterday's 60'c+ track temperatures, with them dropping down to 49'C.

31 Jul

As for McLaren, it wasn't a disaster of a day, but with no driver finishing inside the top eight in either session, they'll be hoping to make progress today.

31 Jul

Behind the front two teams, things are very tight. Alpine seemed arguably the best of the midfield yesterday, but AlphaTauri, Ferrari and Aston Martin also looked strong at times.

31 Jul

Mercedes have had no such issues, with Valtteri Bottas topping FP2 ahead of Lewis Hamilton and the two finishing just behind Verstappen in FP1. At this point, the Finn is perhaps the favourite for pole position after beating his team-mate in both sessions

31 Jul

Red Bull need a good morning more than most after finishing well behind Mercedes in FP2 yesterday. Max Verstappen couldn't find a setup that he was happy with, so will need to do so in the next few hours if he wants a shot at pole position later.

31 Jul

The third and final practice session begins in less than 30 minutes and is the last chance for teams and drivers to get to grips with things before the business end of the weekend.

31 Jul
