02 May 17:17

02 May 17:01

02 May

Things will get underway on Friday with FP1 and we'll be covering it live from that point to race-day. See you then.

02 May

Thankfully for Verstappen and co, they'll have the chance to make amends next week as the sport heads to Barcelona for the Spanish Grand Prix.

02 May

Well, that felt a little anti-climactic. We all wanted to see Red Bull and Mercedes go toe to toe, but the German team ultimately had the upper hand pretty comfortably.

02 May

Verstappen's final lap was deleted for exceeding track limits, so Bottas gets the extra point.

02 May

The full result: Hamilton, Verstappen, Bottas, Perez, Norris, Leclerc, Ocon, Alonso, Ricciardo, Gasly, Sainz, Giovinazzi, Vettel, Stroll, Tsunoda, Russell, Schumacher, Latifi, Mazepin. RET: Raikkonen.

02 May

After starting down in P16, Ricciardo will be happy with P9. He crosses the line just ahead of Gasly.

02 May

It was a great day for Alpine as Ocon and Alonso pick up a good deal of points in P7 and P8.

02 May

Norris's excellent form this year continues as he finishes in P5 ahead of Leclerc.

02 May

Bottas and Perez take P3 and P4.

02 May

Verstappen comes home in P2 and takes the extra point for fastest lap.

02 May

Lewis Hamilton wins the Portuguese Grand Prix!

02 May

Bottas goes purple. Can Verstappen?

02 May

Sainz drops out of the points with Gasly passing him. It's been a poor second half of the race for him.

02 May

Final lap. Hamilton is cruising.

02 May

Verstappen pits for softs too. The battle for that extra point is on.

02 May

Ricciardo passes Sainz for P9. A simple move on the main straight.

02 May

Bottas pits for softs to go for fastest lap. WIth Perez's pace not great, he could get it.

02 May

Schumacher has passed Latifi to take P17. That will feel good.

02 May

It looks like the podium places are set. Verstappen is five seconds behind Hamilton and five ahead of Bottas.

02 May

Alonso takes P8 from Sainz at Turn 1. He's loving these tyres.

02 May

Bottas's problem seems to have gone away. It was a sensor issue.

02 May

The Mexican sets the fastest lap of the race.

02 May

Perez is 22 seconds behind the Finn. 10 laps to go.

02 May

Bottas has said he's losing power...

02 May

Verstappen has pulled away from Bottas by half a second in the last lap.

02 May

Mazepin has been given a five-second penalty for blocking Perez.

02 May

Alonso passes Ricciardo to take P9. He's looking very quick now.

02 May

He finally comes in and puts on fresh softs. He'll be going for fastest lap now.

02 May

Hamilton didn't realise Perez had yet to stop and expected blue flags. To be fair, it is almost unbelievable that Checo has lasted so long on this set.

02 May

Hamilton passes Perez to take the lead. The Mexican will surely pit now.

02 May

Ricciardo and Alonso pass Gasly and move into P9 and P10.

02 May

Mazepin cuts Perez off while being lapped. Really silly driving.

02 May

"Hunt him down, you're the fastest car," Toto Wolff tells Bottas on the radio.

02 May

Ocon passes Sainz to take P7! He's having a great race.

02 May

Hamilton and Bottas both have a lot more pace than Verstappen at the moment.

02 May

Ricciardo follows suit but has a slow stop and comes out in P10. That cost him a place to Gasly.

02 May

After a mighty long stint, Alonso pits and comes out in P11 just ahead of Vettel.

02 May

Leclerc has passed Sainz. It looks like team orders were issued.

02 May

Perez has managed to make his tyres last long enough for softs to be an option for his final stint...

02 May

That move on Bottas was absolutely crucial for Verstappen. In clean air, does he have the pace to catch Hamilton?

02 May

Hamilton pits and comes out with a six-second lead over the Red Bull.

02 May

He struggles for grip though and Verstappen passes him!

02 May

The Finn does so and comes out just ahead of the Dutchman!

02 May

Verstappen pits! He puts on hards and rejoins in P4. Bottas will do the same next lap.

02 May

Ricciardo has yet to pit and is in P5. What's more, his pace is stronger than Norris's, despite having older tyres,

02 May

Red Bull have told Perez they're going to go long with him. Given his ability to manage tyres, that could make things interesting.

02 May

Hamilton is running away with it right now. He's over three seconds ahead of Bottas and Verstappen.

02 May

Verstappen would almost definitely get ahead of Bottas if he pitted now. Red Bull must have worries about the second set of tyres lasting long enough.

02 May

Leclerc pits and puts on hards. That's the strategy the top two teams will be trying unless they go for two-stops.

02 May

Verstappen is flying now and is within DRS range of Bottas.

02 May

Sainz gained a lot of time on Norris, showing that the undercut is very effective. Will Red Bull try it?

02 May

Pits getting busy now. Ocon and Vettel come in.

02 May

McLaren follow suit with Norris doing the same and rejoining in P10.

02 May

Sainz pits for mediums and drops down to P15.

02 May

He's pulling away but says that his tyres are shot. We've heard that before...

02 May

Hamilton takes the lead! He flies around the outside at Turn 1! What a move!

02 May

Hamilton is 0.9s behind Bottas, with Verstappen 1.6 off the Brit. Behind, Perez is the fastest man on track.

02 May

Ricciardo goes around the outside of Vettel at Turn 1 to move into the points.

02 May

Those on soft tyres will be pitting any lap now.

02 May

Perez moves up to P4, passing Norris at Turn 1. Big move.

02 May

Hamilton goes purple and is just half a second behind Bottas.

02 May

The Mercs are starting to pull away...

02 May

Verstappen makes a mistake in the final sector and Hamilton uses his superior pace and DRS to retake P2 at Turn 1!

02 May

Perez meanwhile is losing touch stuck behind Norris.

02 May

Verstappen is all over Bottas.

02 May

1.2 seconds covers the top three.

02 May

Hamilton was caught out by Bottas getting things started again so early.

02 May

Norris passes the Mexican!

02 May

Perez moves up to P4! What a restart for Red Bull!

02 May

We're back underway! Bottas gets the jump on Hamilton who loses out to Verstappen!

02 May

It is indeed coming in at the end of this lap.

02 May

The track looks clear now, it's about time the Safety Car comes in.

02 May

Perez needs to get back past Sainz quickly once things are back underway. Otherwise, he may well lose touch with the front three.

02 May

Ricciardo made the best start of anyone, gaining three places.

02 May

The Finn clipped his team-mate on the straight and lost his front wing before going into the gravel.

02 May

Safety Car! Raikkonen is out!

02 May

Perez is in P5 ahead of Norris who was passed by Ocon but got back ahead with a great move.

02 May

And we're off! The front three all get away well and hold position while Sainz moves up to P4!

02 May

The engines are being fired up and the formation lap is about to get underway. Here we go...

02 May

In terms of strategy, expect most to go for one-stop races, but Mercedes and Red Bull may well be tempted to put one of their drivers on a two-stop.

02 May

There's currently an air temperature of 19'C and a track temperature of 39'C with no rain clouds in sight.

02 May

The national anthem has played and drivers are preparing to get into their cars. 10 minutes to go...

02 May

Sainz is the one to watch at the start. He's the highest placed driver starting on soft tyres and did take the lead at the start here last year...

02 May

He's not the only one to watch further back, with Stroll, Alonso and Tsunoda all starting behind seemingly slower cars. Thankfully for them and us, with two DRS zones, a fast final corner before the pit-straight and a wide track, overtakes are very much p

02 May

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the weekend so far is the fact that Daniel Ricciardo got knocked out in Q1 and starts down in P16. Asides from qualifying though, he has looked quick here, and Norris has shown that the car has pace, so expect to see plenty

02 May

The full starting grid: Bottas, Hamilton, Verstappen, Perez, Sainz, Ocon, Norris, Leclerc, Gasly, Vettel, Russell, Giovinazzi, Alonso, Tsunoda, Raikkonen, Ricciardo, Stroll, Latifi, Schumacher, Mazepin.

02 May

It was the best day yet for the man who Sainz replaced, Sebastian Vettel, since he joined Aston Martin as he made it to Q3 for the first time. He lines up in P10 behind Pierre Gasly.

02 May

One of the many shocks in qualifying was Carlos Sainz comfortably out-qualifying Charles Leclerc for the first time since they became team-mates. The Ferrari pair start in P5 and P8, with Esteban Ocon and Lando Norris separating them.

02 May

Verstappen would have been on pole himself but his first lap in Q3 was deleted as he exceeded track limits. His second wasn't as good and so he starts P3 just ahead of Sergio Perez.

02 May

So far this season has been all about Hamilton vs Verstappen, but Valtteri Bottas got himself involved yesterday, beating them both to pole position. The margin between him and his team-mate, who starts P2, was virtually non-existent.

02 May

Here's how the grid lines up for today's race...

01 May

Mazepin and Schumacher are out, along with Latifi and then a pair of shock eliminations in Stroll and Ricciardo. Only one car in Q2 for both McLaren and Aston Martin.

01 May

Hamilton improves to P3 behind Norris and Bottas, he should be safely through.

01 May

Times are tumbling here, Verstappen did not go back out and could be in trouble!

01 May

Hamilton is sent out for another run on a used set of soft tyres.

01 May

Four minutes to go and it is Mazepin, Latifi, Schumacher, Russell and Tsunoda set for elimination unless they can improve.

01 May

Perez moves ahead of Red Bull team-mate Verstappen into P3 but then loses the rear of his RB16B. Thankfully he escapes the gravel to continue in the session.

01 May

Alonso has a spin to briefly trigger the yellow flags. Hamilton meanwhile does not put in the cleanest of laps, but he should be safe for Q2.

01 May

Hamilton goes P1, but that time gets scrapped for breaching track limits at Turn 1. Bottas meanwhile improves to take over at the top of the session.

01 May

That was close! The Aston Martins nearly collide as Vettel and Stroll clear a path for a passing driver on a flying lap.

01 May

Bottas and Verstappen fall narrowly short of Sainz's benchmark on their first runs.

01 May

Sainz pumps in a 1:19.48 to give Ferrari the de facto lead of the midfield pack early in Q1. Leclerc meanwhile has his time deleted for track limits in the other Ferrari.

01 May

Phew, Norris is out on the track and taking a different approach with the medium compound tyres. Perhaps they just want to save their soft rubber while they check if the electronics are fixed?

01 May

The pit lane is open, qualifying for the Portuguese Grand Prix is underway.

01 May

Just a few minutes to now until Q1 begins, the slowest five drivers in this session will be eliminated. Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin at Haas, as well as Nicholas Latifi will likely be under major pressure to escape based on FP3.

01 May

Confirmed that Mercedes had to remove the gearbox from Bottas' car due to a broken sensor, but they are now getting everything bolted back together again and so it shouldn't threaten his Q1 involvement.

01 May

Now we have cursed Lando! There is a Control Electronics issue on his McLaren.

01 May

McLaren and AlphaTauri have a few tenths to find, but Lando Norris proved in Imola just what he is capable of on a Saturday.

01 May

If Bottas is in trouble then this will be great news for the chasing midfield pack. The likes of Ferrari and Alpine have looked very handy for Q3 throughout practice.

01 May

Hold on, issues on Bottas' Mercedes! The team are working frantically but no word yet on whether this will threaten the Finn's Q1 involvement.

01 May

Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton again look set to lead the pole charge for their respective teams, but neither Valtteri Bottas nor Sergio Perez can be counted out for an upset.

01 May

Max Verstappen gave Red Bull the advantage heading into qualifying after topping FP3, but there is very little to choose between the Austrian outfit and Mercedes in the battle for pole this afternoon.

01 May

Hello and welcome back to Portimao where qualifying for the Portuguese Grand Prix will get underway in around 30 minutes. All times are local.

But Sainz delivers to join Gasly in Q3. Russell narrowly misses out but will start a fantastic P11, the best starting spot of his career with Williams. He is joined in elimination by Giovinazzi, Alonso, Tsunoda and Raikkonen. Disappointing for Alonso as h

01 May

Gasly pushes Sainz into the elimination zone but the Spaniard is going for another flying lap.

01 May

P9 for Sainz, a tidy lap but Ferrari are not certain for Q3. Leclerc goes P8.

01 May

Sainz sets off on a push lap with the soft tyres.

01 May

Vettel is enjoying a very strong session. He sits in P7 with a great chance of making Q3 for the first time as an Aston Martin driver.

01 May

Red Bull are not enjoying those medium tyres. Verstappen is seven tenths down on Hamilton after his latest flying lap.

01 May

It's Mercedes one and two after the first runs as Hamilton boasts a four-tenth advantage over Bottas.

01 May

Sainz kicks us off with a 1:19.5 on the medium rubber, quickly usurped by team-mate Leclerc on the same compound.

01 May

Hamilton is out there on the medium rubber. For those who qualify in the top 10, they must then start the race on the compound which they set their fastest Q2 time on.

01 May

Q2 time! The pit lane is open.

01 May

So, will it be back to the old days of Bottas and Hamilton scrapping it out for victory on Sunday, or can Verstappen still spring a surprise upon Mercedes? Join us tomorrow for what promises to be a fascinating Portuguese Grand Prix.

01 May

A 17th career pole for Bottas and welcomed confidence boost after the events of Imola.

01 May

Perez takes P4 behind team-mate Verstappen, followed by Sainz, Ocon, Norris, Leclerc, Gasly and Vettel.

01 May

Hamilton fights the car all the way through Turn 14 and it costs him, Valtteri Bottas is on pole for the Portuguese Grand Prix!

01 May

It's P3 for Verstappen. Disappointing for Red Bull.

01 May

"Verstappen hasn't set a time yet, don't do him any favours" is the instruction from McLaren to Norris. Naughty.

01 May

Of course, this is the approach that Mercedes took last year, and it bagged them pole.

01 May

Hamilton returns to the track on a new set of medium tyres, while Verstappen sticks with the softs. A fascinating situation where Mercedes and Red Bull are at their best with different compounds.

01 May

It is Bottas on provisional pole, but Hamilton slots into P2 only 0.007s down on his team-mate. This battle is far from over! Perez goes P3 but half a second down on Mercedes.

01 May

And just for good measure, Verstappen sees his time deleted for track limits.

01 May

Very very close to a spin there for Verstappen, that RB16B is not looking very stable. He sets down a 1:18.209.

01 May

Here we go, the battle for pole is on!

30 Apr

So, we're up and running this weekend, and have made it through the morning without any major incidents. Things will continue in just over two hours with FP2. See you then.

30 Apr

The complete finishing order in FP1: P1 Bottas, P2 Verstappen, P3 Perez, P4 Leclerc, P5 Hamilton, P6 Gasly, P7 Russell, P8 Norris, P9 Sainz, P10 Ocon, P11 Stroll, P12 Ricciardo, P13 Tsunoda, P14 Alonso, P15 Raikkonen, P16 Vettel, P17 Ilott, P18 Schumacher

30 Apr

Gasly, Russell, Norris, Sainz and Ocon make up the rest of the top 10.

30 Apr

Leclerc is looking good and manages to finish ahead of Hamilton, who won't be too happy with his morning.

30 Apr

Bottas tops the session just ahead of Verstappen, with Perez completing the top three.

30 Apr

That's that for FP1.

30 Apr

Leclerc and Ilott both improve right at the end to move up to P4 and P17 respectively.

30 Apr

Perez goes P3, two tenths off the lead.

30 Apr

Ilott has had a solid morning, making no big mistakes and securing P19 ahead of Mazepin.

30 Apr

Perez does the same to move up to P5.

30 Apr

Hamilton improves to go P3 on softs, ahead of Leclerc.

30 Apr

Five minutes to go.

30 Apr

Despite that, he's still improved to go 0.025s off of Bottas's time.

30 Apr

Verstappen is now on softs but is not happy with them, complaining of vibrations.

30 Apr

Russell has also put on the fastest compound and has gone P4, eight tenths down on the man he clashed with last weekend, who has improved again.

30 Apr

Bottas puts on softs and retakes P1 by just over two-tenths.

30 Apr

Sainz and Leclerc have got back up to P4 and P5. They're looking strong. Perez meanwhile is in P8.

30 Apr

Mazepin is furious with team-mate Schumacher who dived ahead of him, clearly taking him by surprise. "What the f*** is he doing?" the Russian asked.

30 Apr

Verstappen does a 1:20.500 to go top by just 0.006s. Tight.

30 Apr

He goes P4 on them, just ahead of former team-mate Ocon.

30 Apr

Ricciardo one of the first to head out for a flying lap on soft...

30 Apr

Vettel pulls into the pits and stops in the wrong box, paying McLaren a visit. Come on Seb, you've never even driven for them...

30 Apr

Bottas and Hamilton move up to P1 and P3 respectively. Meanwhile, Perez is finally heading out. Can he challenge them?

30 Apr

Perez is now the only man yet to set a time.

30 Apr

Verstappen is out at last and immediately goes top with a 1:21.053. Also on hards.

30 Apr

Ricciardo takes P1 with a 1:28.821 on hard tyres. The vast majority are running that compound at the moment.

30 Apr

Hamilton says that his car feels undrivable, and his team say it's due to low track temperatures. That was an issue last year - who can forget everybody struggling for grip at the start and Sainz taking the lead?

30 Apr

Sainz and Leclerc go P2 and P3.

30 Apr

Everyone has gone out except the red Bulls, Ocon and Tsunoda.

30 Apr

Bottas goes top early on with a 1:22.938. Few need a good weekend more than him.

30 Apr

Callum Ilott is driving for Alfa Romeo this morning and is out on track.

30 Apr

Plenty of cars are heading out straight away.

30 Apr

Right then, FP1 is underway.

30 Apr

His job will be made easier by the fact that things look set to stay clear and sunny all weekend with no rain on the horizon.

30 Apr

Behind the top two, McLaren and Ferrari look strongest, while AlphaTauri too are quick but have yet to enjoy a problem-free weekend. If this is to be the first, Yuki Tsunoda needs to cut to those mistakes.

30 Apr

Just two races in, the pecking order this year is still very much unclear, especially at the top, with Red Bull and Mercedes looking evenly matched thus far. Hopefully, the two sessions today will give us a better idea of where things stand.

30 Apr

Portimao wasn't originally on this year's calendar, but was added following the cancellation of the Chinese Grand Prix, and we couldn't be happier about it. With its huge elevation changes, fast final corner and wide nature, it can provide quite the racin

30 Apr

Well, everyone, we've made it! After a slow start to the season, we've now got two races in two weekends, starting off with the track that became rather popular last season.

30 Apr

Welcome to Portimao for round three of the 2021 F1 championship, the Portuguese Grand Prix.

30 Apr

That should make things very interesting for qualifying tomorrow, so don't miss it. Join us here for live coverage of that as well as FP3 earlier in the day. Cheers, and see you then.

30 Apr

Well, after today's sessions, things are looking very tight throughout the grid. Just the way we like it.

30 Apr

The full finishing order: P1 Hamilton, P2 Verstappen, P3 Bottas, P4 Sainz, P5 Alonso, P6 Ocon, P7 Leclerc, P8 Ricciardo, P9 Stroll, P10 Perez, P11 Gasly, P12 Norris, P13 Russell, P14 Tsunoda, P15 Vettel, P16 Raikkonen, P17 Giovinazzi, P18 Schumacher, P19

30 Apr

Ricciardo enjoyed a positive afternoon, taking P8 and going comfortably faster than his team-mate. Leclerc was just ahead of him, with Stroll and Perez completing the top 10.

30 Apr

Ferrari again finish as the best of the midfield with Sainz in P4 ahead of Alonso and Ocon, whose team will be very happy with their pace.

30 Apr

Hamilton finishes it on top, going just over a tenth faster than Verstappen, with Bottas a further two down in P3.

30 Apr

FP2 is done and dusted.

30 Apr

It's been a disappointing session for Perez, who could never get another lap in on the softs.

30 Apr

Looking at times, mediums have decent pace and stay fast for longer. Expect Red Bull and Mercedes to try and make it to Q3 on them.

30 Apr

After 15 laps on softs, Hamilton said they didn't feel good.

30 Apr

Most are out on longer runs on softs or mediums now, seeing how long they can make them last.

30 Apr

Perez struggled to get going on softs and is down in P10. He'll be wanting another go before the end of the day.

30 Apr

Verstappen goes P4, just over a tenth down on Hamilton.

30 Apr

Latifi goes off into the gravel. Remarkably, that's the biggest off we've had all day. Things have been very clean so far.

30 Apr

Ocon now goes P5. Have the French team found some pace in the last two weeks?

30 Apr

Alonso goes three-tenths slower than Hamilton's best time to move up to P4, with Ocon in P7. A good start to the afternoon for Alpine.

30 Apr

The Mercedes drivers used soft tyres on their fastest laps while Verstappen was on mediums.

30 Apr

There's our answer! Hamilton does a 1:19.837 to take top spot comfortably.

30 Apr

He doesn't stay top for long though as Bottas goes a tenth and a half faster. Those two have been battling it out all day for P1, can Hamilton and Perez get involved?

30 Apr

Verstappen is back out and immediately goes fastest. It looks like that issue is fixed.

30 Apr

Bottas retakes P1. Lots of times coming in early on.

30 Apr

Perez moves into top spot. Verstappen meanwhile has a brake issue and is back in the pits.

30 Apr

Bottas takes P1 with a 1:20.805 while Sainz moves into P2.

30 Apr

Verstappen is top after the first runs with a 1:20.937.

30 Apr

They're all on mediums.

30 Apr

In fact, every single car is on track.

30 Apr

We're underway. Plenty of cars leaving the pits.

30 Apr

The session start has been delayed by 10 minutes due to a potentially loose drain cover.

30 Apr

Scrap that, it's now very windy. Great timing.

30 Apr

The conditions are ideal for this session, with a temperature of 20'C, not much wind and no rain clouds in site.

30 Apr

Behind them, Ferrari are looking very strong indeed, stronger in fact than McLaren, but the British team may well have some more pace in their pocket for FP2.

30 Apr

Going by those times, there is once again very little to choose between Red Bull and Mercedes. Right now, who is quicker isn't clear, but maybe that will change this afternoon...

30 Apr

Things got underway this morning with Valtteri Bottas topping FP1 just ahead of Max Verstappen, going 0.035s faster, while Sergio Perez and Lewis Hamilton were P3 and P5, separated by Charles Leclerc.

30 Apr

Hello and welcome to live coverage of FP2 of the Portuguese Grand Prix. All times are local to Portimao.

01 May

Formula 1 is sometimes criticised for being too dependent on the car, but qualifying for the Portuguese Grand Prix is going to very much come down to the drivers. Red Bull and Mercedes are neck-and-neck. Make sure to join us in a few hours for Q1 as the a

01 May

It's P11 for Tsunoda, followed by Ricciardo P12, Giovinazzi P13, Alonso P14, Schumacher P15, Stroll P16, Russell P17, Vettel P18, Latifi P19 and Mazepin P20.

01 May

But as for FP3, Perez in P4 looks to be over his struggles on the soft rubber. Ocon P5, Leclerc P6, Sainz P7, Norris P8, Gasly P9 and Raikkonen P10 completes the top half of the order.

01 May

Mercedes report "spots of rain" over the radio. That could certainly spice qualifying up.

01 May

And there is the chequered flag. Verstappen tops FP3 ahead of Hamilton and Bottas, but no doubt Q3 is going to prove must see as Red Bull and Mercedes scrap it out for pole.

01 May

Mazepin is in the gravel at Turn 8. He lost the rear end as he tried to pass Perez but fortunately escapes to trundle back to the pits.

01 May

Wide for Verstappen at Turn 1 and then a lock-up at Turn 3, Verstappen saves himself from a flat spot but the lap is ruined.

01 May

Drivers are getting a bit of information on long runs using the softs in these last few minutes. Verstappen though seems to be winding up for another attack lap.

01 May

Verstappen shaves a few more hundredths off his session-topping time.

01 May

Norris adds himself to the list of FP3 spinners.

01 May

Out comes Hamilton on a shiny new set of soft tyres with 17 minutes to go in the session.

01 May

Poor Alonso. He went P3 on a new set of soft tyres but sees that time deleted for track limits.

01 May

Much stronger lap there for Verstappen on the softs. He moves into P1 on a 1:18.545. What does Hamilton have left to extract from the W12?

01 May

Bottas also needs to find time. Stuck in P5 he is 0.46s down on Hamilton in the other Mercedes.

01 May

Another slippery lap for Verstappen who fails to improve on his benchmark. He also gets a little dig in at Hamilton over the radio for, in his mind, backing him up too much as they prepared to start their flying laps.

01 May

A spin there for Raikkonen briefly triggers double waved yellows.

01 May

Hamilton fares better to take over P1 with a 1:18.755. It's tight at the top on the soft rubber, Perez is only 0.085s adrift of Hamilron.

01 May

A scruffy lap there for Verstappen who slots into P3, that VSC likely cost him a lot of tyre temperature.

01 May

The advertisers are happy again, the track returns to green.

01 May

The Virtual Safety Car is deployed...because the wind blew over an advertising board.

01 May

Perez is still struggling on the softs. He is only P3 at the moment, 0.05s slower than Alfa Romeo's Kimi Raikkonen also on that compound.

01 May

Fernando Alonso and Daniel Ricciardo are going for a double warm-up with two out-laps. It served Alonso well as he goes P2 on a 1:20.3.

01 May

15 minutes gone in the session and AlphaTauri's Yuki Tsunoda is on top with a 1:20.997, the only driver outside Haas to set a time so far.

01 May

Schumacher has the first spin of the session but quickly corrects the Haas and gets going again. That is one tricky racing car to master.

01 May

Schumacher's team-mate Nikita Mazepin is sporting some padding in the cockpit to help his neck around this undulating Portimao circuit.

01 May

Mick Schumacher is out there too, his Haas VF-21 is twitching around all over the place on his first flying lap.

01 May

Stroll heads out in the Aston Martin AMR21, Vettel soon follows.

01 May

FP3 is underway!

01 May

Just a few minutes to go until FP3 begins. Thanks to some cloud cover track temperature is down 10 degrees from Friday. Pirelli have brought the hardest tyres in their range to Portimao, so the drivers will now have to work even harder to get some heat in

01 May

Lance Stroll was looking handy in the top 10 on Friday, but his Aston Martin team-mate Sebastian Vettel heads into FP3 with six tenths to find on his inter-team rival. Nicholas Latifi over at Williams was also struggling.

01 May

Alpine's performance had Lando Norris fearing for his Q3 chances. We will see what response the McLaren driver has in FP3, but let's not forget the Briton was contending for pole back at Imola.

01 May

Behind that Red Bull/Mercedes battle everything is looking extremely tight. Carlos Sainz signed off in P4 for Ferrari on Friday, but in P5 and P6 Alpine showed signs of life for the first time this season.

01 May

It is Sergio Perez on the other side of the Red Bull garage though who has the most work to do in FP3. He could find no improvement on the soft rubber in FP2 and ended up all the way down in P10. This session will tell us if he has found the answers that

01 May

Red Bull and Max Verstappen remain an ever-present threat, but despite a pair of P2s on Friday the Dutchman could not find pleasure in driving on the "super slippery" Portimao tarmac. Drivers were divided on whether or not it had rubbered-in since last ye

01 May

Mercedes slipped and slid their way to the top of the timings on Friday as Valtteri Bottas topped FP1 before Lewis Hamilton settled into that spot in the afternoon.
