10 Oct

That race weekend is two weeks away and we'll be covering it all here from Friday onwards. Thanks for joining us today and see you then.

10 Oct

Hamilton will be seething for a good while now and will try to channel that anger in Austin to take back control of the title fight.

10 Oct

Well, that was a fairly tame affair by this season's standards but was intriguing nonetheless.

10 Oct

In the Constructors' Championship meanwhile, Mercedes stay ahead.

10 Oct

With that result, Verstappen is back ahead of Hamilton in the standings. He leads by six points.

10 Oct

The full result: Bottas, Verstappen, Perez, Leclerc, Hamilton, Gasly, Norris, Sainz, Stroll, Ocon, Giovinazzi, Raikkonen, Ricciardo, Tsunoda, Russell, Alonso, Latifi, Vettel, Schumacher, Mazepin.

10 Oct

Stroll and Ocon take the final points, with the Frenchman holding off Giovinazzi by the skin of his teeth.

10 Oct

Sainz takes P8 after an excellent drive and could have even finished in the top five if not for a poor pit-stop.

10 Oct

Gasly and Norris finish just behind the seven-time World Champion.

10 Oct

Leclerc and Hamilton cross the line in P4 and P5, and both will feel a little disappointed.

10 Oct

Perez makes it a double Red Bull podium.

10 Oct

Verstappen comes home in P2 to take back the lead of the championship.

10 Oct

Valtteri Bottas wins the Turkish Grand Prix!

10 Oct

Final lap...

10 Oct

Hamilton's tyres look to be working much better now with him pulling away from Gasly a little.

10 Oct

Bottas sets the fastest lap of the race. He's 10 seconds clear of Verstappen.

10 Oct

Hamilton is absolutely fuming about the call to bring him in. To make matters worse, Gasly is all over him now...

10 Oct

Perez has pulled away from both though and is five seconds up the road.

10 Oct

He could well get those places back though. He's already caught Leclerc.

10 Oct

It looks like Hamilton didn't realise he was going to lose two places by pitting. He's not too happy...

10 Oct

Perez passes Leclerc! He's on for a podium now.

10 Oct

He's rejoined in P5 and is seven seconds behind Leclerc and Perez.

10 Oct

Hamilton pits! The tyres just couldn't quite make it to the end.

10 Oct

The Mexican is just a second behind the Ferrari man. If Hamilton pits, this battle will be for the final podium spot...

10 Oct

Leclerc pits and rejoins just ahead of Perez.

10 Oct

Hamilton is starting to lose pace now and is dropping behind Verstappen. The gap is 4.4 seconds.

10 Oct

The Finn takes the lead! He dives down the inside at Turn 1!

10 Oct

Bottas is a second off the leader now and looks all but certain to pass him.

10 Oct

Verstappen has some issues with his steering wheel, saying it's going too left-hand down...

10 Oct

Leclerc makes a mistake, allowing Bottas to close the gap by over a second. There's now 2.5 seconds between them.

10 Oct

The team tell him to box but he refuses. He's sure the best bet is going to the end...

10 Oct

The Mercedes pit crew are heading out. It looks like he'll pit...

10 Oct

Leclerc has just asked Ferrari if he could do the same. He's leading the race at the moment...

10 Oct

The big question at the front now is whether Hamilton can make it to the end on his current set of tyres. With it being a wet race, he doesn't have to pit if he doesn't want to...

10 Oct

It's far too wet for slicks and Vettel comes back in after a few laps.

10 Oct

New inters for Perez too. Expect Hamilton to react soon...

10 Oct

Bottas puts on inters and comes out six seconds ahead of Verstappen while Vettel has put mediums on. Brave...

10 Oct

Sainz comes in and is stationary for eight seconds. That's undone a lot of his good work.

10 Oct

Verstappen pits! The Dutchman rejoins in P3 on fresh inters.

10 Oct

Checo was pushed into the pit-lane entry by the Brit there. They're not giving each other an inch.

10 Oct

That really was fantastic racing from both drivers.

10 Oct

Perez holds off Hamilton with brilliant racing! They're wheel to wheel for five corners and the Mexican prevails!

10 Oct

Both Red Bulls look to be struggling now, with Verstappen dropping back and being caught by Leclerc too.

10 Oct

The Mercedes man is less than a second behind Perez now.

10 Oct

Mazepin very nearly takes out Hamilton when the Brit is lapping him...

10 Oct

The fastest man on track right now is Leclerc, who is looking comfortable in P3 and even catching the front two.

10 Oct

Perez has picked up the pace and is maintaining the gap to Hamilton now.

10 Oct

Tsunoda spins and drops down to P13.

10 Oct

Ricciardo pits for fresh inters and rejoins in P18 ahead of the Haas drivers. Everybody will be very interested in his pace...

10 Oct

Hamilton is forecast to catch Perez in four laps. Time to see if the Mexican has been saving his tyres or simply lacks pace.

10 Oct

It won't be long before drivers can switch to dry tyres...

10 Oct

The gap at the front is now down to 2.4 seconds after a mistake from the Finn at Turn 1.

10 Oct

The Dutchman sets the fastest lap of the race, but Bottas wasn't much slower.

10 Oct

Verstappen is starting to close the gap to Bottas ever so slightly. His tyres seem a lot less worn than the Mercedes driver's too.

10 Oct

Hamilton cruises past Gasly to move up to P5. Next up is Perez, who really needs to find some pace.

10 Oct

Sainz dives down the inside of Vettel very late and just about gets through but makes contact with the Aston Martin man.

10 Oct

Perez meanwhile is three seconds behind Leclerc and not closing that gap. Is he struggling or just looking after his tyres? We'll see...

10 Oct

The Mercedes man is currently a second faster than the rest of the field! At this rate, he could win this.

10 Oct

He struggled to get ahead of him last time around, but Hamilton passes Norris easily this time. He's currently the fastest man on track.

10 Oct

Bottas is expanding his lead at the front. It's now 2.4 seconds.

10 Oct

Next up for Hamilton is Norris. We've seen this before...

10 Oct

Alonso gets the same penalty as Gasly for hitting Schumacher. That one seems fair, but giving the Frenchman one was a little harsh.

10 Oct

Getting past Stroll is much easier for Hamilton with him doing so quickly. That's P7.

10 Oct

Gasly gets a five-second time penalty for the incident with Alonso.

10 Oct

Hamilton passes Tsunoda with a nice move around the outside of Turn 3.

10 Oct

Sainz is flying through the field at the moment. The Ferrari man is already up to P12.

10 Oct

Alonso hit Schumacher when passing him and is under investigation. A nightmare start for the Alpine driver.

10 Oct

Tsunoda is doing a great job holding off Hamilton at the moment. That'll make him a popular man at Red Bull.

10 Oct

Gasly is under investigation for causing Alonso to spin at the start.

10 Oct

At the front, Bottas leads by 1.6s and is looking comfortable.

10 Oct

After his spin Alonso is now in P15 ahead of Sainz and Ricciardo.

10 Oct

Hamilton is up to P9 and pressuring Tsunoda.

10 Oct

Perez got past Gasly to take P4.

10 Oct

And we're off! Bottas gets away well and stays ahead of Verstappen while Alonso spins behind them!

10 Oct

The formation lap is underway. Here we go...

10 Oct

With him moving to Alfa Romeo at the end of the season, this could well be Bottas' last chance to add to his win tally in Formula 1. Can he take it?

10 Oct

We haven't actually seen a huge amount of racing in wet conditions this year, so it will be interesting to see who handles it well other than the usual suspects of Hamilton and Verstappen.

10 Oct

We've had a nice, low key rendition of the Turkish national anthem, and the drivers are now preparing to get into their cars.

10 Oct

Mercedes think that, once the cars have cleared some water, there will be a crossover from wet to dry compounds... How well drivers time that change will be crucial.

10 Oct

For his title hopes, some help from his team-mate would do him the world of good. Bottas was criticised for effectively waving Verstappen through at Sochi, but he'll surely put up more of a fight today...

10 Oct

Hamilton will have mixed feelings about these conditions. He's one of the best around on a wet track, but he'll be more worried about getting caught up in an incident or two as he tries to make his way through the field.

10 Oct

Most have headed out on inters and Verstappen is confident it's the right tyre.

10 Oct

Rain has fallen in Istanbul this morning and while there is only light drizzle now, the track is very wet indeed. Drivers will have to start on wets or inters.

10 Oct

With Hamilton, Sainz and Ricciardo all starting further back due to engine penalties, we're already guaranteed some entertainment, and there's the matter of weather...

10 Oct

The full starting grid: Bottas, Verstappen, Leclerc, Gasly, Alonso, Perez, Norris, Stroll, Tsunoda, Vettel, Hamilton, Ocon, Russell, Schumacher, Latifi, Giovinazzi, Raikkonen, Mazepin, Sainz, Ricciardo.

10 Oct

Yuki Tsunoda and Sebastian Vettel complete the top 10.

10 Oct

McLaren have been fighting at the front in the past two rounds but it doesn't look like that will be the case again today with Lando Norris only starting in P7. Lance Stroll, last year's polesitter, is just behind him.

10 Oct

Behind them, Fernando Alonso starts inside the top five for the first time since 2014, but he'll have a thought ask on his hands staying there with the Red Bull of Sergio Perez alongside him.

10 Oct

Charles Leclerc has looked good all weekend and will start in P3 ahead of the equally impressive Pierre Gasly.

10 Oct

Lewis Hamilton claimed pole position yesterday but a 10-place grid penalty for an ICE change means Valtteri Bottas will start at the front ahead of Max Verstappen.

10 Oct

There's an hour to go before the race and the track is far from dry... First things first though, here's the starting grid for today's race.

10 Oct

Hello and welcome to Istanbul Park for the Turkish Grand Prix! We'll have all the build-up from 1400 local time, with lights out at 1500.

09 Oct

Ricciardo is out! Mick Schumacher makes Q2! Wow. Ricciardo in P16 is joined by Latifi, Giovinazzi, Raikkonen and Mazepin in elimination.

09 Oct

The times are tumbling here!

09 Oct

He soon fixes that issue and moves back up to P2.

09 Oct

Verstappen has had his lap deleted, he drops to P11!

09 Oct

And now Hamilton takes that top spot back. Only one minute to go in Q1 and the track is ramping up, every driver is out there.

09 Oct

Verstappen boots his title rival out of P1 with a 1:25.033, while Perez improves to P5 in the other Red Bull.

09 Oct

Hamilton tells Mercedes that he needs to get another banker in, then goes fastest. Yes, that should do it!

09 Oct

Red Bull tell Verstappen that the rain is dissipating and expect conditions to improve from here.

09 Oct

Alonso now pops up to P2 for Alpine.

09 Oct

Leclerc is looking mighty once again, while Gasly is also enjoying the conditions. It is P1 for Gasly, with Leclerc 0.24s behind.

09 Oct

Tsunoda has an off at Turn 1, but he collects his AlphaTauri and continues. That was nearly another red flag incident for the Japanese racer.

09 Oct

A cracking effort there from Bottas to go fastest with a 1:25.913.

09 Oct

The rain is falling, only light but heavier is predicted to follow in a few minutes.

09 Oct

Hamilton gets it done on that second attempt though, up to P1 he goes on a 1:27.085.

09 Oct

Verstappen spins and continues as well, telling his Red Bull crew that he was trying to take it easy. Hamilton and Tsunoda have their laps deleted for track limits at Turn 1.

09 Oct

Hamilton pushes his way past the Ferraris in the huge queue at the end of his warm-up lap, but he hits a wet patch at Turn 1 and goes wide. If the rain falls now, it could spell trouble. Sainz spun too.

09 Oct

Rain now expected in three minutes.

09 Oct

It is an all-out rush to exit the pits, the soft C4 tyres are the chosen weapon, a tyre which Pirelli feared was too aggressive and may not be popular for qualifying. That settles that then.

09 Oct

Track temperature has only climbed a few degrees to 22c, so that may not lend itself to switching on the slick tyres.

09 Oct

Almost time to get Q1 underway. In this session it is all about eliminating the five slowest drivers.

09 Oct

A couple of showers are perhaps incoming 15 minutes from now. It will be a very busy start to Q1 then with the need to get a flying lap in sharpish.

09 Oct

Just as we mention dry weather form, the chance of rain for qualifying has just been confirmed as 100%. We all know about the commentator's curse, but this is a little extreme!

09 Oct

There is also a grid penalty coming Carlos Sainz's way after he took a new Ferrari engine. He will drop to the back, so it remains to be seen how much we will see of him in Q1.

09 Oct

Judging from Friday's performances in the dry, Lewis Hamilton goes into qualifying as favourite for P1, though not pole as he will drop 10 places for an internal combustion engine change. Charles Leclerc was also looking very handy for Ferrari on Friday w

09 Oct

The teams now face a dilemma over which tyres they choose for the start of Q1. If it isn't slick tyres for the start, then it surely will not be long before that crossover arrives.

09 Oct

FP3 was a soggy affair as the drivers did their parts to disperse the standing water. By the end the track was drying nicely and Honda were locking out the top three, with Pierre Gasly fastest ahead of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.

09 Oct

Hello and welcome back, who is ready for some qualifying action at Istanbul Park? Q1 is only 30 minutes away. All times are local.

Sainz, Schumacher, Russell, Ocon and Vettel miss out on Q3. Particularly disappointing for Ocon and Vettel with their respective team-mates both making the shootout for pole.

09 Oct

Leclerc makes it into Q3, he goes P7.

09 Oct

Russell is out of qualifying, getting it all wrong at the final corner and ruining his crucial lap.

09 Oct

Stroll slides over the gravel and grass at Turn 1, that is his Q2 done and now a nervous wait looms.

09 Oct

One minute remains, Sainz, Schumacher, Vettel, Russell and Leclerc are in danger of missing out on Q3.

09 Oct

A better effort there from Perez as he takes over P3, a much-needed confidence booster.

09 Oct

Verstappen had found an answer for Mercedes, but lost all of that time after running wide at Turn 12.

09 Oct

Leclerc spins at the very last corner. He is right on the cusp in P10.

09 Oct

Bottas now responds to make it Mercedes P1 and P2 at the top, going within two-tenths of Hamilton. Further back, Schumacher is having a storming qualifying in P13 for Haas.

09 Oct

Alonso is loving that medium rubber! The two-time World Champion muscles Bottas out of P3.

09 Oct

A statement 1:23.595 from Hamilton, four-tenths up on Verstappen.

09 Oct

Tsunoda is the only driver on softs, while Perez will need a tyre change after a spin at Turn 1.

09 Oct

14 of the 15 drivers are out on the track, the one who isn't is Sainz. Understandable considering his incoming demotion to the back of the grid.

09 Oct

Mercedes and Verstappen head out on the medium C3 tyres.

09 Oct

Right then, after that brief break, it is Q2 time.

Well then, Hamilton will drop to P11 on the grid, but is the win out of reach? With the pace he has shown so far this weekend, the key will be how quickly he moves through the midfield. Some swift progress and the win is on! Make sure to join us for that

09 Oct

Alonso, Perez, Norris, Stroll and Tsunoda complete the top 10 here in Q3.

09 Oct

A solid effort from Leclerc who takes P4, to become P3 on the grid. He will head the second row with Gasly alongside.

09 Oct

Bottas stays P2, but that is good enough for pole here in Turkey!

09 Oct

It's not enough, Verstappen still P3.

09 Oct

Into the 1:22s for Hamilton, a new track record. His 1:22.868 now sets the pace, but pole is still Bottas' as it stands, can Verstappen respond?

09 Oct

Hamilton heads out on a new set of softs tyres, he has the track to himself.

09 Oct

A snap there for Verstappen on the exit of the last corner as he goes P3. So even with Hamilton's penalty, Verstappen needs to find another couple of tenths if he wants pole.

09 Oct

Little between the Mercedes drivers there, it is a 1:23.071 from Bottas which sets the pace for pole.

09 Oct

Gutting for Schumacher who we see was forced to back out on his last Q2 lap due to Stroll's off. But a fantastic showing for him in a Haas. Now, it is Q3 time!

08 Oct

The action will continue later today with FP2 starting in just over two hours. See you then.

08 Oct

The full order: Hamilton, Verstappen, Leclerc, Bottas, Sainz, Ocon, Norris, Gasly, Alonso, Perez, Russell, Ricciardo, Vettel, Giovinazzi, Latifi, Raikkonen, Stroll, Tsunoda, Schumacher, Mazepin.

08 Oct

Ocon finishes just outside the top five ahead of Norris and Gasly, with Alonso and Perez completing the top 10.

08 Oct

Leclerc completes the top three with Bottas splitting him and his team-mate.

08 Oct

Hamilton ends it in P1 with a 1:24.178 while Verstappen takes P2, just under half a second behind the Mercedes man.

08 Oct

Well, that wasn't the most eventful of sessions, thanks in large part to that improved grip.

08 Oct

FP1 is done.

08 Oct

Tsunoda: "This f****** idiot." Not sure who he's talking about, but that's vintage Yuki.

08 Oct

With both on longer runs on the soft tyre, Bottas' average pace is 0.3s faster than Verstappen's.

08 Oct

Five minutes to go.

08 Oct

Red Bull need Perez to have a good weekend but the Mexican is only in P10 at the moment.

08 Oct

It hasn't been the best of mornings for McLaren yet with Norris and Ricciardo in P7 and P12.

08 Oct

Not Ferrari though, with Leclerc and Sainz moving up to P3 and P5.

08 Oct

Everyone except Tsunoda is on soft tyres at the moment, with most doing longer runs.

08 Oct

That's more like it from Verstappen. He moves up to P2, 0.425s off Hamilton.

08 Oct

Pretty much every driver looks comfortable on track at the moment. No major mistakes or incidents yet.

08 Oct

Hamilton goes two-tenths faster while Bottas moves into P2.

08 Oct

Ocon improves to move back within half a tenth of the lead while Bottas goes P3 and Alonso P4. Alpine are looking strong early on here.

08 Oct

He doesn't stay there for long though as Hamilton goes 1.4s faster.

08 Oct

The track is starting to get quicker now, shown by the fact that Ocon has gone fastest with a 1:25.968 on hard tyres.

08 Oct

It has been confirmed that Hamilton has taken a new ICE (internal combustion engine) but nothing else. That's a 10-place grid penalty.

08 Oct

Hamilton returns to P1 with a 1:26.043 and Norris splits him and the Dutchman.

08 Oct

A few other drivers have agreed with Norris that there's a lot of grip this year.

08 Oct

Verstappen goes just under half a second faster than his title rival.

08 Oct

On that compound, Hamilton does a 1:27.439 to go top early on, with Leclerc 0.018s down in P2.

08 Oct

Everyone except George Russell has left the pits, with the majority on softs.

08 Oct

Norris says the grip is much better than last year.

08 Oct

FP1 is underway.

08 Oct

In case you're wondering why there are more white cars on track this weekend, it's because Red Bull are running a special Honda livery, and it looks great.

08 Oct

There are reports emerging that Hamilton has indeed had an engine change. We should get confirmation shortly...

08 Oct

That could largely depend on the weather. Currently, there's a 40% chance of rain on each of the three days, but if Sochi taught us anything, it's to never rule out a few unexpected showers...

08 Oct

One driver who will be focusing solely on race pace and not qualifying simulations is Carlos Sainz, who will be starting from the back of the grid due to an engine change. The big question is whether Lewis Hamilton will follow suit.

08 Oct

Given such a lack of grip and the rain that followed, Istanbul Park is still a largely unknown quantity to the current teams and drivers, so getting good data in the practice sessions will be important.

08 Oct

The first thing to look out for is the surface. Last year, there was a remarkable lack of grip on track, but they've surely fixed that this year...

08 Oct

The first practice session of the weekend will start in just under 30 minutes.

08 Oct

Good morning and welcome to what the drivers hope will be a less slippery than 2020 Istanbul Park.

08 Oct

Thanks for joining us today and see you tomorrow.

08 Oct

They'll have one more chance to do so before qualifying with FP3 starting tomorrow at noon.

08 Oct

So, that's how things stand heading into the business end of the weekend. Can Verstappen and Red Bull find more pace? They need to...

08 Oct

The full FP2 result: Hamilton, Leclerc, Bottas, Perez, Verstappen, Norris, Alonso, Ocon, Gasly, Giovinazzi, Tsunoda, Sainz, Stroll, Ricciardo, Raikkonen, Vettel, Latifi, Russell, Schumacher, Mazepin.

08 Oct

Norris takes P6 just ahead of the Alpine drivers while Gasly and Giovinazzi complete the top 10.

08 Oct

Rather than Verstappen in P2 though, it's Leclerc, with Bottas and Perez also going faster than the Dutchman.

08 Oct

As was the case this morning, Hamilton ends it on top.

08 Oct

That's that for FP2.

08 Oct

Latifi spins right at the end of the session.

08 Oct

Verstappen is complaining of vibrations, and he hasn't been on his set of tyres for that long. Things aren't going too well for him at the moment.

08 Oct

On the longer runs on mediums, Hamilton is fastest of the frontrunners by a fair margin with little to choose between Verstappen, Perez and Bottas.

08 Oct

Kimi is fuming about the broken water system, subjecting his poor old race engineer to quite the rant.

08 Oct

Most on track are on longer runs now, with half on softs and half on mediums.

08 Oct

Ferrari are having a great day. Leclerc is currently in P2, just over a tenth behind Hamilton.

08 Oct

Kimi: "I have water running in my ******* boots because your water system is leaking like ****." We'll miss him...

08 Oct

In case you're wondering how much better the grip is this year, Verstappen topped FP2 last year with a 1:28.330; Hamilton is currently P1 on a 1:23.804...

08 Oct

The Dutchman improves by a few tenths but stays in P5.

08 Oct

There's almost a second between Hamilton and Verstappen after those first runs... Worrying signs for Red Bull? Or are they holding something back?

08 Oct

Perez soon takes the spot off his team-mate though. The Mexican struggled this morning but is looking much better now.

08 Oct

Verstappen also improves to move up to P4.

08 Oct

Hamilton goes purple with a 1:23.840, but it wasn't the best of laps.

08 Oct

Indeed, every driver is on softs now and presumably preparing for quali runs...

08 Oct

Sainz and Alonso go above Verstappen. They're on softs, and more drivers are starting to put that compound on now...

08 Oct

Interestingly, the McLaren man is on the hard tyre. It looks to have decent pace.

08 Oct

Perez and Verstappen, also on mediums, are currently P5 and P6 with Norris just ahead of them.

08 Oct

He's on mediums as are most drivers including the Mercedes pair who are currently P2 and P3, led by Hamilton.

08 Oct

FP2 is underway and it's the Monegasque who has gone top early on with a 1:24.102.

08 Oct

Lewis Hamilton went fastest with Max Verstappen in P2 ahead of Charles Leclerc.

08 Oct

With the track far grippier than last year, this morning's session was fairly uneventful, and there were few surprises on the time-sheet.

08 Oct

Hello and welcome to live coverage of FP2 at the Turkish Grand Prix. All times are local to Istanbul.

09 Oct

If we see no further rain, then the track will probably be ready for slicks come qualifying, but as we saw in Russia, never count out a rogue shower. It remains very possible this afternoon in Istanbul. Make sure to join us in a few hours' time as we star

09 Oct

Giovinazzi finishes P11, Vettel P12, Schumacher an impressive P13, Ricciardo P14, Norris P15, Stroll P16, Mazepin P17, Hamilton P18, Latifi P19 and Russell P20 completes the final order.

09 Oct

And that is session complete. Gasly ends FP3 in P1, followed by Verstappen and Perez in a dominant display for Honda. Sainz, Leclerc, Alonso, Raikkonen, Tsunoda, Bottas and Ocon complete the top 10.

09 Oct

Verstappen and Perez trade places late on, now it is Verstappen P2 and Perez P3.

09 Oct

Raikkonen meanwhile receives the "wait wait wait" call far too late as Schumacher does well to avoid him on the way into the Haas pit box.

09 Oct

Leclerc tells his Ferrari crew to try slicks for a bit of pre-qualifying data gathering. This should be fun.

09 Oct

Sainz is putting some serious mileage out there on his new power unit.

09 Oct

Norris meanwhile is asked how far away it is from slicks out there, to which he responds "miles".

09 Oct

Tsunoda is not happy at all as he encounters Perez trundling along the racing line of Turn 11.

09 Oct

Honda are looking very handy in these conditions, locking out the top three positions. It's Gasly on top with Perez and Verstappen following.

09 Oct

Leclerc makes his attempt at the Turn 9 spin, decent effort finessed with a nice finish on the grass, but Verstappen still tops it with his 360.

09 Oct

It is quite sensational how much grip the drivers are getting from this tarmac in the wet, it has shifted to the complete opposite end of the scale from last year.

09 Oct

Russell's Williams is back in the garage as the mechanics set about removing the gravel.

09 Oct

Verstappen is back on top, while Leclerc slots into P2 and Sainz P3.

09 Oct

The times are improving now as Bottas knocks Ocon out of P1, but Turn 9 is still proving an issue. Sebastian Vettel is next to spin there.

09 Oct

Verstappen pushes a little too hard now at Turn 9, completing a "nice 360" as he termed it.

09 Oct

No such issues for Verstappen though who sets a 1:32.4 for P1.

09 Oct

Hamilton gets caught out there by the standing water at Turn 9. Comfortably P1 for the Mercedes driver on a 1:33.636, but it could have been a far better lap.

09 Oct

The track is green again as Hamilton goes for a flying lap on the intermediates.

09 Oct

Russell simply aquaplaned through Turn 2, thankfully the gravel saved him from a shunt into the barriers. Nikita Mazepin meanwhile had the same issue at Turn 11.

09 Oct

Several drivers out there are complaining about the glare from the sun on this wet, shiny surface.

09 Oct

Russell is in the gravel, and that Williams is stuck. Session red flagged.

09 Oct

Our first spinner of the session - Gasly on the inters through Turn 11. He has flat-spotted those so it is back to the pits.

09 Oct

Sainz makes a case for the full wets though by improving to a 1:36.299. Norris goes purple in the final sector but has to settle for P2.

09 Oct

"Definitely inters now," says Norris. His McLaren looks planted out there despite the standing water.

09 Oct

Norris is back into the pits and heads straight out again on intermediates as Sainz improves to P1.

09 Oct

Sainz is liking these conditions again, P2 for the Ferrari driver with a quarter of FP3 gone. Charles Leclerc pops up to P3 in the other Ferrari despite a big snap of the rear.

09 Oct

P2 for Norris' team-mate Daniel Ricciardo, though the gap is almost a second.

09 Oct

Norris knocks Gasly off of P1, it is a 1:28.395 for the Briton.

09 Oct

"We think Sector 2 is close to inter," say McLaren. Good to see Russia has not knocked their appetite for a risky tyre call.

09 Oct

It is cautious but stable out there for Tsunoda, the sun is out now, it is all pointing in the right direction.

09 Oct

We have a car on the track! It's AlphaTauri's Pierre Gasly. His team-mate Yuki Tsunoda is joining him shortly.

09 Oct

Williams are trying to get a paper boat race underway outside their garage, but we don't have quite enough water out there for that! It's a draw.

09 Oct

We have some blue sky emerging, so this rain is clearing as expected.

09 Oct

"Yeah, I think we will get some running." Fingers crossed the words of Ferrari racing director Laurent Mekies ring true.

09 Oct

Session underway, let's pray for some action out on the track!

09 Oct

We have a track temperature of only 20c, those full wets will have to work hard out there for some heat.

09 Oct

So, these conditions present an opportunity if they stick around beyond FP3. We have seen the likes of Lando Norris, Carlos Sainz and George Russell shine across the damp sessions in Belgium and Russia this season. Mick Schumacher at Haas was also hoping

09 Oct

The rain is really pouring down at Istanbul Park, but fortunately, FP3 is still set to go ahead as planned.

09 Oct

In the dry on Friday, there was no beating Lewis Hamilton who topped both FP1 and FP2, but remember, he will drop 10 places on the grid thanks to taking a new internal combustion engine for this weekend.

09 Oct

How will that impact FP3? Well, the forecast suggests that the rain will move on later in the day, but with a damp track still very possible for qualifying, FP3 will be a vital hour of wet-weather running for the teams.

09 Oct

We would love to tell you that it is a bright, sunny day in Istanbul, but it is not. The rain has arrived and the wind is still swirling.

09 Oct

Hello and welcome back to Istanbul Park! We have one hour of practice remaining before we get stuck into qualifying this afternoon. FP3 is set to start 30 minutes from now. All times are local.
