TEXAS, USA - McLaren's Lewis Hamilton earns his fourth victory of the 2012 season with a fantastic win at the United States grand prix. The win at the Circuit of the Americas marks the McLaren ace's second win in the US since Indianapolis in 2007.

Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel held onto first place throughout the race but was eventually trounced on lap 42 by Hamilton. It wasn't easy for Hamilton who managed to finish the race a mere 0.6 seconds ahead of Vettel.

Interviewed by the 1978 world champion, American Mario Andretti, Hamilton said: "First-time winner! I'm so happy. The fans were amazing, thank you. It was such a warm welcome and one of the best, if not the best, race of 2012 - especially for me and the team.

"It's been a long time since we had a win. I'm so proud of the team and grateful for the support we've had."

Vettel said: "He had one chance and he took it. It was a tough race, but it was a great race."

Vettel, who leads the drivers standings with 273 points from Alonso on 260, is seeking to become Formula 1's youngest ever triple world champion at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso managed to fight his way to third place from seventh followed by team mate Felipe Massa in fourth.

The F1 title fight will go down to the wire at the Brazilian Grand Prix on November 25. The Drivers' title may be undecided but Red Bull have managed to wrap up the Constructors' championship.
