Most people attribute Soweto as the birthplace of spinning - a culture woven into the fabric of South African motorsport.
While it used to be primarily male-dominated in the past, more and more females are getting behind the wheel. Nalo Jivhuho from Soweto is one such example that is staking a claim in the spinning arena.
She is a mother and university student by day, but in spinning circles (no pun intended), she goes by the nickname 'Dankie Darlie' - shredding tyres in her red E30 BMW 3 Series.
One of the most popular car used by spinners locally is the E30 BMW 3 Series because it is relatively cheap to purchase and rear-wheel-driven.
Jivhuho says: "For me, it's about showing women that you can do whatever you want, no matter the gender or race."
In addition to Nalo, Stacey-Lee May and Kaylin Oliphant are other locally-based female spinners.
