Hot on the heels of the launch of the facelifted Polo hatchback this month, Volkswagen South Africa has just announced that its fifth-generation Caddy multi-purpose vehicle will hit showrooms in February, and there are going to be plenty of different versions to choose from.

The fifth-generation 2022 Volkswagen Caddy is coming to market with a new naming strategy: Caddy, Caddy Maxi, Caddy Kombi, Caddy Maxi Kombi, Caddy Cargo and Caddy Maxi Cargo. We expect a model for most South Africans, from small families to on the go entrepreneurs and fleet businesses too.

A long history of success in South Africa

The VW Caddy nameplate was first launched in the local market in 1992, according to VWSA, and to date, more than 35 000 units have been sold here. Over three million units have been built worldwide since 1979.

The new Caddy's exterior boasts a striking sporty design. Features include new LED headlights and rear lights, painted body-coloured bumpers and black roof rails.

Optional exterior features include a panoramic sunroof with a large glass area of 1.4 square metres, a removable tow bar that can enable some models to tow a maximum weight of 1 500kg, and 16-inch Wien alloy wheels.

The new Caddy is also available in 12 exterior paint colours, with five unique colours now available in the fifth-generation model.

Park Assist, paired with the Rear-View Camera, takes the hassle out of parking in tight spaces, while Trailer Manoeuvring will give drivers the confidence to guide a trailer easily.

Space-wise, the Caddy Maxi Cargo now provides room for up to two Euro pallets.
