- Eighth-generation A6
- Three-model line up: 40 TDI, 45 TDI and flagship S6
- RS6 Avant arrives in Q1 of 2021
Audi's new eighth-generation A6 has quietly entered the local market boasting three models. The latest iteration offers a new cockpit with connectivity never seen before in the large executive saloon model.
The range will be available with three engines: the 40 TDI model is powered by a 2.0 turbodiesel engine with 140kW and 400Nm; followed by the 45 TDI which employs a 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel motor with 183kW and 600Nm.
The flagship of the range for now is the S6 which uses the brand's familiar 2.9-litre V6 turbocharged petrol engine with 331kW and 600Nm.
The V6-powered derivatives employ the eight-speed automatic transmission that distributes the power to all four wheels of the Quattro system. The entry-level 40TDI uses a seven-speed S Tronic 'box.

The latest infotainment system is dominated by two large touchscreen displays, as seen on the A7 Sportback and Q8 models.
The top display measures in at 25.6cm screen and the lower example is 21cm wide and houses the climate control, convenience and vehicle functions as well as for text input.
Audi's MMI navigation plus is standard on the A6 range and also includes the virtual cockpit in front of the driver with a high-resolution display of 31cm.
Smartphone compatibility is a breeze thanks to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto syncing. There are two novel ways of navigating the infotainment system by either using the MMI touch response system or via voice control.
For example the climate control can be performed using everyday speech commands.
Made from high-strength steel and aluminium Audi says the A6 offers high-torsional stiffness and minimal body roll.
Inside, the seats are new and the front pews are electrically-powered with a memory function as a standard feature.
The S6 is fitted with sport seats, but if you want S sport seats they are optional and can be ordered with numerous adjustment functions, including ventilation and massage functions. The S6 is also fitted with a glass panoramic sunroof as standard.
A large 530-litre boot swallows pretty much anything you can chuck into it and if your hands are full one is able to close the boot with a kicking motion below the rear of the car. It's optional on the A6, but standard on the S6.
In terms of wheel offerings, the A6 range offers an 18-inch wheel on the 40 and 45 TDI models with an option to upgrade to a wheel size of up to 21-inch.
The S6 comes standard with a 20-inch wheel, with an upgrade choice of two different 21-inch wheel designs and 14 exterior body paint colours available.
The new Audi A6 range is priced as follows:
A6 40 TDI S tronic R919 500

S6 TFSI quattro tiptronic R 1 401 500
The 40 TDI and S6 are currently available for sale at all dealerships while 45 TDI will be introduced imminently.
