Launched locally in February 2021, the Renault Triber has been a hit for the French automaker. In the 14 months since, the Triber has raked in a sales figure of more than 4200 units, translating to monthly sales of around 300 units. It's impressive, given that the market has taken quite a beating in Covid-19 and the subsequent hard lockdown.
In November 2020, the range was expanded with an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) model that acted as the headline to the range.
The Triber family consists of four models, all priced between R185 900 and R221 900.
Refresh: This is the Triber
The Triber, says Renault, takes strong design cues from its SUV siblings and sports projector headlights and roof rails that can carry a maximum load capacity of 50kg. Underlining that SUV-ness is a ground clearance of 182mm.
Seven passengers can squeeze into the Triber's cabin that provides no less than 100 seating combinations. Renault says these configurations include Camp Mode (two-seater), Surf Mode (four-seater), Life Mode (five-seater), and Tribe Mode (seven-seater). The two most rear seats can be easily removed, while the driver's seat now has six-way adjustable capabilities.
In five-seater mode, the Triber's boot space is 625L in size.
The easy-to-use eight-inch MediaNav Evolution touchscreen comes integrated with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, Voice Command button, and video playback on the screen. According to Renault, a Smart Access Card for Keyless Entry and Stop/ Start functionality enables a more effortless driving experience.
The Triber is powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that offers 52kW and 96Nm. The engine drives the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox or the five-speed AMT.
